Unraveling the Past
The apartment was quiet, with only the sound of the clock ticking. Louis and Victoria sat on opposite sides of the room, feeling the weight of their conversation. They had stopped arguing, but the tension was still thick.
Louis had his head in his hands, feeling overwhelmed by everything they had gone through. He realized he had almost lost Victoria-not just because of the close moment with Alex, but because of the growing distance and lost trust between them.
In this quiet moment, Louis felt something change. The walls he had built around himself began to fall. He had hidden his fears and insecurities with anger and jealousy for too long, and now he couldn't keep it inside anymore.
"Victoria," he said softly, breaking the silence. "I need to share something I've never talked about."
Victoria looked up, her expression softening. She sensed that Louis's jealousy came from deeper issues he had kept hidden. Now, hearing his vulnerable voice, she knew he was ready to open up.
"Okay," she said gently, moving closer. "I'm listening."
Louis took a deep breath, trying to find the right words. His hands shook slightly as he rubbed them together, a nervous habit.
"I've never told you this, but... when I was growing up, I was always afraid that no one would stay," he said quietly. "My dad was a big deal, but he was never around. When he was home, it felt like I didn't matter to him. My mom tried, but she had her problems and was too focused on keeping the family together to see how alone I felt."
Victoria listened, her heart aching for him. She knew bits of his childhood but not the whole story.
"I thought if I could be good enough, maybe they'd notice me," Louis continued. "But it never worked. I always felt second to my dad's work and my mom's idea of a perfect family. After a while, I started to believe I wasn't good enough."
Victoria placed her hand on his arm. "Louis..."
"I know it sounds silly," he said, shaking his head. "But those feelings never went away. Even when I grew up and became successful, that fear stayed. I thought anyone I let in would leave because why would they stay with me?"
Victoria felt tears in her eyes. "Louis, you're not second place. You never have been."
Louis sighed, his eyes filled with emotion. "I know you say that, but it's hard to believe. Especially when I see someone like Alex, who seems to have everything I can't give you. I start to think you'll realize you deserve better and leave me, like everyone else."
Victoria's heart broke for him. She had always known there was more to his jealousy, but hearing him admit his fears showed her how much pain he carried.
"Louis, I've never wanted anyone else," she said softly. "I chose you because I love you. I've stayed because I believe in us, even when things get tough. But you have to stop thinking you're not enough. Because you are."
Louis looked at her, filled with a mix of vulnerability and doubt. "It's just hard for me to believe. I'm so scared of losing you."
Victoria moved closer, gently holding his cheek. "You're not going to lose me. But we have to stop letting fear control us. We can't let it tear us apart."
Louis closed his eyes, leaning into her touch. "I don't know how to stop being afraid."
Victoria leaned forward, resting her forehead against his. "You don't have to do it alone. We can work through this together. But you need to let me in and trust that I'm not going anywhere."
Louis felt the love in her voice wrap around him like a lifeline. He had pushed her away for so long, thinking she would leave, not realizing she was fighting for them too.
"I'm sorry," he whispered, his voice breaking. "I'm sorry for not trusting you and for letting my fears come between us. I love you so much, and I don't know what I'd do if I lost you."
Tears spilled from Victoria's eyes as she hugged him tightly. "I love you too, Louis. And we're not going to lose each other if we keep fighting for this."
Louis wrapped his arms around her, finally letting his emotions out. For the first time in a long time, he let himself be open, dropping the walls he had built.
They stayed like that for a long time, holding each other, knowing they would find a way through this together.
Later that night, as they lay in bed, things felt calmer. Louis held Victoria close, still feeling heavy with the fears he had shared, but lighter now that he had opened up. He knew the road ahead wouldn't be easy, but he felt they had a real chance to rebuild what they had lost.
Victoria lay beside him, her hand on his chest, thinking about the words he had shared. She had sensed Louis's deep insecurities, but hearing about his painful past gave her a new understanding of him. They weren't perfect, but they were both willing to fight for each other.
As the night went on, Victoria closed her eyes, feeling hopeful. They had a long way to go, but for now, they had each other. And that was enough.
