Breaking Trust
Louis felt tense as he came back to the apartment that evening, still upset from their earlier fight. He had been angry, hurt, and jealous all day. He left Victoria at the hospital to think, but his mind kept going back to how things were falling apart.
When he entered, Victoria was waiting for him, looking stiff and having red eyes from crying. She had spent hours thinking about their argument, each word hurting more than the last. The unspoken issues between them filled the room like a brewing storm.
"We need to talk," Victoria said quietly but firmly.
Louis sighed, closed the door, and leaned against it. "Yeah, we do."
For a moment, they both stayed silent, the tension heavy between them. Finally, Victoria spoke.
"Louis, I don't understand how we got to this point, but it feels like you don't trust me," she said, her voice shaking with hurt and frustration. "No matter what I do, you seem to expect me to betray you."
Louis felt a tightness in his chest. He wanted to argue, but deep down, he knew she had a point. His jealousy and doubt had grown too strong and had hurt their relationship.
"It's not like that," Louis replied defensively. "I've always trusted you, but with Alex and everything, it's hard not to feel like I'm losing you."
"Losing me?" Victoria echoed, surprised. "Louis, you've been pushing me away for months! Whenever I try to talk to you, you shut me down. You don't trust me, and you never have."
Louis clenched his fists, feeling frustrated. "That's not true! I've done everything to support you. But no matter what I do, it's like I'm never enough for you."
Victoria was angry. "Enough? You've been treating me like I'm the enemy! Since Alex came back, you've acted like I'll leave you for him at any moment."
"And haven't you thought about it?" Louis shot back, bitterness in his voice. "He's offering you a fresh start. Don't pretend you haven't considered it."
Victoria's heart hurt at his words. She had thought about it, but it was more complicated than Louis understood. She loved him, but his jealousy and lack of trust were tearing them apart.
"I won't lie," Victoria said, keeping her voice steady despite her tears. "Yes, I've thought about it. But it's because I'm tired, Louis.
Tired of always feeling like I have to prove myself to you. Tired of being treated like I've done something wrong."
Louis's face showed pain. "So I'm the problem now?"
Victoria took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. "You've always been scared that I would leave you. But by not trusting me, you're pushing me away."
Louis looked at her, heartbroken by her tears. He never wanted to hurt her, but his fear of losing her had taken over.
"I love you," Louis said, his voice filled with emotion. "But it feels like I'm always second place. You turn to others-Alex, your work-before me."
Victoria's heart broke at his words. "Second place? I've been trying to work through things with you, but it's hard when you shut me out."
"You don't understand," Louis said, frustration spilling out. "I've always felt like I have to compete for your attention. With your career, your friends, and now Alex, it feels like I'm not enough for you."
Victoria shook her head, her voice shaking. "That's not fair. You knew my career mattered and that Alex was part of my past. It doesn't mean you're second place; it means I have a life outside of us, and you're supposed to be part of it, not a rival."
Louis's anger rose, pushing him to say things he would regret. "It feels like you're always ready to leave like you're waiting for someone better."
Victoria's face fell, hurt by his words. "That's not true, Louis. I've never wanted anyone else. But I can't keep living like this-always being questioned and feeling like I have to prove my loyalty."
Louis felt his heart sink when he saw her hurt. He knew he had gone too far, but his jealousy and fear had clouded his judgment.
"I don't know how to stop feeling this way," Louis admitted, his voice breaking. "When I see you with Alex or hear you talk about starting over, it feels like I'm losing you. And that scares me."
Victoria softened, feeling for him. She knew his insecurities were deep, and while she tried to reassure him, their issues had only grown over time.
"I don't want you to feel like that," Victoria whispered, stepping closer. "But you need to trust me. You need to believe I'm here because I want to be, not because I'm waiting for something better."
Louis's chest felt heavy as everything finally hit him. He had let his jealousy and fear push her away without realizing it.
"I do trust you," Louis said softly, his voice thick with emotion. "I'm just scared. Scared that one day you'll realize you deserve someone better than me."
Victoria's heart broke at his honesty. She stepped closer and took his hand. "I'm not looking for better, Louis. I want you. But we need to stop hurting each other and let go of our insecurities."
Louis looked into her eyes, love mixed with guilt and regret. He had hurt her and, in turn, hurt himself.
"I don't want to lose you," Louis whispered, almost too quiet to hear.
Victoria squeezed his hand, both hopeful and uncertain. "You won't. But we can't keep going like this. We have to rebuild the trust we've lost, or we'll lose everything."
Louis nodded, knowing it would take time to heal their relationship. But for the first time, he felt there was a small chance they could find their way back to each other.
"I'll try," Louis said softly, filled with determination. "I'll try to trust you. But I need you to meet me halfway."
Victoria nodded, her heart full of emotion. "I will. We'll work through this together."
As they stood there, their unresolved feelings still between them, both Louis and Victoria knew the path ahead wouldn't be easy. But for the first time in a long time, they were willing to fight for each other. And that was a good start.
