A Breaking Point
Victoria sat in the corner of the bedroom, hugging her knees and staring at the floor. Everything felt heavy on her. The walls of the mansion, once a sign of success, now felt like a prison. The chaos from the media, the stress of her marriage, Louis's secret child-everything was falling apart too quickly.
She hadn't talked much since the news broke. It felt like everyone was watching and judging her-by the world, by herself, even by Louis. The worst part was not knowing how to make it stop.
Her phone buzzed on the nightstand, lighting up with more news. The world was consuming every detail of her life, and she felt trapped with no way to escape the opinions and lies. It seemed like her life was completely out of control.
With shaking hands, Victoria picked up her phone and looked at the messages. Headlines shouted at her from every part of the internet:
"Victoria Sebastian: Can She Survive Her Husband's Secret Scandal?"
"The Future of the Sebastian Empire in Jeopardy?"
"Victoria Sebastian Thinks About Divorce Amid Scandal!"
The last one hit her hard, even though no one outside her marriage should have known how close she was to that choice.
Divorce. The word lingered in her mind, mixing fear and sadness, and, if she was honest, a strange sense of relief. It had crossed her mind more than once lately. As the pressure grew-from the media, from Louis becoming a father, from the shadow of Jane-she started to wonder if staying in this marriage was worth the constant struggle.
She loved Louis. She had loved him deeply. But that love had been tested more than she thought it would be. First, a lawsuit, then poisoning, and now this. Sophie. The secret child that changed everything. The girl who deserved Louis's love also reminded Victoria of parts of his life she didn't know about.
Could she stay in a marriage where she felt like an outsider?
The creaking of the bedroom door pulled her from her thoughts, and she looked up to see Louis standing there. He looked worried and tired. He was trying to manage everything-his new role as a father, dealing with the media, and his strained relationship with Victoria-but it was clear he was struggling too.
"Victoria," Louis said softly, walking into the room. "Can we talk?"
Victoria's heart sank. She wasn't sure if she had the strength for another talk filled with promises and apologies that neither knew how to keep. But she nodded, her voice too weak to speak.
Louis sat on the edge of the bed, looking for signs of what she was thinking. "I know this has been... unbearable for you," he said, his voice filled with regret. "I never wanted things to get this bad."
Victoria shook her head, her voice barely a whisper. "It's not just the media, Louis. It's everything. I feel like I've been drowning for months. And now with Sophie... it's just too much."
Louis clenched his hands tightly. "I'm doing everything I can to handle it, but I know that doesn't change how you feel. I can see it in your eyes. You're pulling away from me, and I don't know how to stop it."
Her throat tightened as she looked at him, the man she once believed could weather any storm with her. But now, facing the wreck of their marriage, she wasn't sure if they could fix it.
"I don't know if we can fix this, Louis," she said, her voice shaking. "Everything has changed. I feel like I'm watching you become someone I don't recognize. Sophie is your daughter, and she deserves you. But I don't know if I can be part of this anymore."
Louis's face fell, her words hitting him hard. "Victoria, I don't want to lose you," he whispered, his voice full of emotion. "I love you. I know things are a mess now, but we can figure this out."
Tears filled Victoria's eyes as she listened. She wanted to believe him, but deep down, she knew something had changed between them-something that might never go back to the way it was.
"I love you too, Louis," she said, her voice cracking. "But I don't know if love is enough anymore. I've been trying so hard to hold on, but it feels like we're drifting apart."
Louis reached for her hand, his eyes desperate. "Please don't give up on us, Victoria. I know I've made mistakes, but I'm willing to do anything to fix this. I can't imagine my life without you."
Victoria pulled her hand away, tears spilling over as the weight of the situation pressed down on her. "I don't want to give up either, but I can't keep living like this. I can't keep feeling overwhelmed-the media, Jane, Sophie. It's too much."
Louis looked at her, his voice breaking. "Then tell me what to do. Tell me how to fix this. I'll do anything, Victoria. Just don't walk away."
Victoria looked away, feeling confused. She didn't know the answer. She didn't know if they could fix what was broken. All she knew was that she was tired-tired of fighting, tired of losing herself to save their marriage.
"I need time," she whispered, her voice thick with tears. "I need to figure out if I can do this."
Louis's face crumpled, but he nodded. "I'll give you whatever time you need. Just... don't give up on us."
Victoria stood up, her heart heavy. She didn't know if time would heal the wounds in their marriage, but for now, it was all she could offer. She needed space andrity, and to see if the life with Louis was still what she wanted.
