Revealing the Truth
The clinic was calm, with soft voices nearby and a light smell of herbal medicine in the air. Louis sat in the waiting room, nervously holding his hands together. The last few weeks have been very emotional, with ups and downs. But today felt different-he hoped they might finally find answers.
After trying different treatments, Dr. Morton recommended more tests for rare toxins that hospitals usually don't check for. Louis was unsure at first, but now, while waiting for the results, he felt a bit of hope.
Victoria's health had been unstable. Some days she seemed better, but on others, she was just as weak. They were in a tough spot, needing answers badly.
The door to the consultation room opened, and Dr. Morton came out, looking serious. Louis stood up, his heart racing.
"Dr. Morton?" Louis asked, his voice shaky. "Did you find anything?"
Dr. Morton motioned for Louis to come into the room. "We ran some advanced tests and found something."
Louis felt a mix of fear and hope. "What did you find?"
Dr. Morton sat down, looking grave. "We found a rare toxin called Abrin, from the seeds of the rosary pea plant. It's very dangerous and matches many of Victoria's symptoms."
"A toxin?" Louis whispered, shocked. "You mean someone is poisoning her?"
Dr. Morton nodded. "Abrin isn't something you get by accident. It's a planned poison, meant to work slowly, so it's hard to notice."
Louis felt cold. He had suspected Daniella was behind this, and now it was confirmed.
"How long has she been exposed?" Louis asked, shaking with anger and fear.
"It's hard to say," Dr. Morton replied. "But I think she has been exposed for several months, maybe since her health started to decline."
Louis's heart raced. This had been happening for months, and he hadn't realized it. Daniella wasn't just hurting Victoria's reputation; she was slowly trying to end her life.
"Can you help her?" Louis asked, his voice thick. "Can you fix this?"
Dr. Morton leaned in, speaking gently but firmly. "We can start treatment to counteract the toxin, but how well Victoria recovers depends on the damage done. Knowing what the poison is helps us, but it will take time. She is still very weak."
Louis nodded, trembling as he processed the news. He had to tell Victoria, but he also needed to stop Daniella. This was about saving her life, not just her reputation or their marriage.
Later that evening, Louis sat by Victoria's bedside, gently holding her hand. She was resting after a tiring treatment, looking pale but peaceful. The news about the poison had shaken him, but he hadn't told her yet. She was too fragile.
He kept thinking about his talk with Dr. Morton. A rare toxin, given slowly over time, meant to harm without being noticed.
Someone had planned this carefully-Daniella had planned this.
He felt angry but also scared. He needed a careful plan and proof to take to the authorities.
While sitting there, his phone buzzed. It was a message from Mark Caldwell, the private investigator.
"Louis, I have more details. Daniella's connected to the purchase of Abrin through a contact. We need to meet."
Louis's heart raced. This was the final piece of the puzzle. If Mark had proof of Daniella buying the toxin, they could take action. He quickly texted back to set a meeting for the next day.
But as he planned, fear twisted in his stomach. Daniella was unpredictable, and if she realized they were onto her, anything could happen.
The next morning, Louis met Mark in a quiet café. The mood was tense as they sat in a corner.
Mark slid a folder across the table. "Here's everything I found. Daniella used someone else to buy Abrin to hide her tracks, but we traced it back to her. It's not a complete proof, but it's enough for an investigation."
Louis opened the folder, looking at bank transfers and communications leading to Daniella. It was all clear.
"We need to act quickly," Mark said quietly. "If Daniella finds out, she could disappear-or worse."
Louis's jaw tightened. He had always known his sister was manipulative, but this was beyond what he expected. She had poisoned Victoria, and now they needed to act fast.
"Take this to the authorities," Louis said firmly. "I want her stopped."
Mark nodded, taking the folder. "I'll get it to the right people. But Louis... be careful. If Daniella knows, she might come after you too."
Louis nodded, feeling the weight of his decision. "I'm not scared of her. I just want to protect Victoria."
As Louis returned to the hospital that afternoon, his mind was focused on the toxin and the plan to stop Daniella. But when he entered Victoria's room and saw her so vulnerable, anger and fear washed over him again.
"Louis?" Victoria said softly, her eyes opening as she saw him.
He moved to her side, holding her hand. "I'm here."
Victoria smiled weakly, but there was fear in her eyes. "What's wrong? You look... worried."
Louis hesitated but knew he had to tell her the truth. She deserved to know.
"They found something," he said softly. "The doctors found a rare toxin in your system. Abrin."
Victoria's eyes widened. "A... toxin? Someone has been poisoning me?"
Louis nodded, his voice shaking. "We think it's Daniella. She's been poisoning you for months."
Victoria tightened her grip on his hand, tears filling her eyes. "Why? Why would she do this?"
Louis shook his head, heartbroken. "I don't know. But I promise, we will stop her. She won't get away with this."
Victoria's tears fell as she looked at him. "I don't know how much more I can take, Louis. I'm so tired."
Louis leaned close, pressing his forehead to hers. "You're going to get through this. I will make sure of it."
But as he spoke, fear of what was to come gnawed at him. They had found the truth, but the fight was far from over. And Daniella wasn't finished yet.
