Amaya Betrayed?
Victoria's heart raced as she followed Malcolm Sebastian into his study, the weight of her decision to confide in him heavily on her shoulders. After her failed attempt to uncover the truth with Barry's help, she knew she had to take drastic action.
The fate of her marriage, her future with Louis, depended on it.
As Malcolm settled behind his ornate desk, his weathered features etched with concern, Victoria took a deep, steadying breath. 'Mr. Sebastian, I… I know who's behind the incriminating photos."
Malcolm's brow furrowed, his gaze sharpening. 'You do? Who, Victoria?"
Victoria's fingers trembled as she met his unwavering stare. 'It's Barry, my ex-boyfriend. He… he must have been the one to stage the entire scenario, to provide the evidence to Amaya."
Malcolm's jaw tightened, a flash of fury igniting in his eyes. 'Barry? Are you certain, Victoria?"
Victoria nodded, her expression resolute. 'Yes, I'm sure. He's the only one who I was with, and who would have known the details of that night."
Malcolm let out a low, frustrated growl, his hand clenching around the arm of his chair. 'That conniving bastard. I should have known he was involved in this somehow." Yeah, Malcolm knew about Barry and Victoria's history.
Victoria's gaze fell to her lap, her voice barely above a whisper. 'I'm so sorry, Mr. Sebastian. I never meant for any of this to happen."
Malcolm's expression softened, his hand reaching across the desk to cover hers. 'Victoria, my dear, this is not your fault. You've been betrayed, just as we all have."
Victoria lifted her head, her eyes shining with unshed tears. 'But what do we do now? Amaya, she… she's threatening to destroy everything if you don't dissolve my marriage to Louis."
Malcolm's brow furrowed, his fingers drumming against the polished wood. 'Then we must find a way to eliminate the evidence, to negate Amaya's leverage."
Victoria's heart leaped with a glimmer of hope. 'You mean… you'll help me?"
Malcolm nodded, his gaze resolute. 'Of course, Victoria. The Sebastians protect their own, no matter the cost."
He paused, a calculating gleam in his eyes. 'And I think I know just the way to handle this."
Reaching for the phone, Malcolm punched in a series of numbers, his expression grim. 'Franklin, it's Malcolm. I need you to track down Barry Joe and bring him to me. Immediately."
Victoria watched with bated breath as Malcolm relayed the instructions, her fingers tightly gripping the edge of the desk. If there was any chance of salvaging her marriage, of exposing Amaya's treachery, it lay in Barry's hands.
It wasn't long before the door to the study swung open, and Franklin ushered a visibly shaken Barry into the room. The moment Barry's gaze landed on Victoria, his face drained of color, his eyes widening with panic.
'V-Victoria? Mr. Sebastian, what's going on?"
Malcolm rose from his chair, his expression unreadable. 'Mr. Joe, we've been expecting you."
Barry's eyes darted around the room, his fingers trembling. 'Expecting me? I don't understand—"
'Oh, I think you do," Malcolm interrupted, his voice low and menacing. 'Victoria has informed me of your… involvement in the incriminating photographs."
Barry's gaze snapped at Victoria, a flicker of betrayal flashing in his eyes. 'Victoria, how could you—"
'Silence!" Malcolm barked, his hand slamming against the desk. 'You're in no position to make demands, Mr. Joe. In fact, you're in quite a lot of trouble."
Barry swallowed hard, his Adam's apple bobbing nervously. 'Trouble? W-what do you mean?"
Malcolm's lips curled into a humorless smile. 'It's quite simple, really. You're going to help us eliminate the evidence you provided to Amaya. And in return, we'll ensure your financial troubles are… taken care of."
Barry's brow furrowed, a glimmer of hope sparking in his eyes. 'Financial troubles? You mean you'll pay me?"
Malcolm nodded, his expression grave. 'Ten million dollars, to be exact. All we ask in return is that you destroy every last trace of those incriminating photographs and video footage."
Barry's eyes widened, his mouth hanging open. 'Ten million? That… that would solve all my problems."
Malcolm's gaze narrowed, his tone laced with warning. 'So, do we have a deal, Mr. Joe?"
Barry's gaze darted between Malcolm and Victoria, his mind clearly racing. Victoria held her breath, praying that her ex-boyfriend would take the offer, that he would erase the evidence that threatened to destroy her life.
After what felt like an eternity, Barry squared his shoulders, a determined glint in his eyes. 'Yes, Mr. Sebastian. We have a deal."
Malcolm's lips curled into a satisfied smile, his hand extending towards Barry. 'Excellent. I'll have the funds transferred to you immediately."
Barry grasped Malcolm's hand, a nervous chuckle escaping his lips. 'Thank you, Mr. Sebastian. I… I don't know what to say."
Malcolm's grip tightened, his eyes narrowing. 'Just make sure you hold up your end of the bargain, Mr. Joe. If we so much as catch a whiff of those photographs or the video footage, you'll regret the day you ever crossed paths with the Sebastians."
Barry nodded frantically, his face paling. 'Y-yes, of course. It'll be done, I swear."
Malcolm released his hand, his expression hardening. 'See that it is. Now, get out of my sight."
Barry all but stumbled out of the study, his mind no doubt racing with the implications of the deal he had just struck. Victoria watched him go, a mixture of relief and unease settling in the pit of her stomach.
As the door swung shut, Malcolm turned to her, his gaze softening. 'Victoria, my dear, you've done well. With any luck, this will put an end to Amaya's treachery."
Victoria offered him a tremulous smile, her fingers twisting the fabric of her dress. 'Thank you, Mr. Sebastian. I… I don't know how to repay you for this."
Malcolm waved a dismissive hand, a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. 'Nonsense, my dear. The Sebastians always take care of their own. Now, go to Louis and tell him the truth. He deserves to know."
Victoria nodded, her heart swelling with gratitude. 'I will, Mr. Sebastian. Thank you for everything."
As Victoria made her way out, a weight seemed to lift from her shoulders. The nightmare was finally coming to an end, and with any luck, her marriage to Louis would be saved.
But as she walked, a nagging sense of unease tugged at the back of her mind. Had she truly made the right decision, by enlisting the Sebastians' help? And what would the consequences of their actions be in the long run?
Only time would tell, but for now, Victoria was willing to risk it all for the chance to reclaim the life she had fought so hard to build.
