Victoria's fingers hovered over Barry's contact, her mind reeling with questions that had no answers. She took a deep breath and pressed the call button, each ring echoing in the silence of her office. It had been days since the incident at the club, and the memory of it still gnawed at her—how she had been drugged, taken to a hotel, and had those damning photos taken without her knowledge. She needed to know why Barry had done this and, more importantly, what Amaya had promised him in return.
Barry answered on the third ring, his voice tinged with a nervous edge. 'Victoria? Didn't expect to hear from you."
'I'm sure you didn't," Victoria snapped, her voice sharper than she intended. 'We need to talk. Now."
There was a pause on the line before Barry sighed. 'Alright. I'm at the usual place."
The usual place. A small café tucked away from the busy streets, where they had once met to discuss work, life, and everything in between. Victoria remembered the days when she had considered Barry a friend, someone who had her back. But now, as she made her way to the café, her mind was filled with doubts and suspicions.
She found Barry seated at a corner table, his back to the wall, eyes darting nervously as she approached. He stood up, offering a strained smile. 'Victoria, it's good to see you."
Victoria didn't bother with pleasantries. She sat down, folding her hands tightly in front of her. 'Cut the crap, Barry. Why did you do it? Why the photos, the drugs? What the hell did Amaya promise you?"
Barry's smile faltered. He leaned back, running a hand through his hair. 'It's complicated—"
'Then make it simple," Victoria cut in, her eyes blazing. 'I need answers, and I need them now."
Barry hesitated, his gaze flickering away from hers. 'Look, it wasn't supposed to go that far. Amaya… she has something about me. Things I can't let go public. She knew about my debts, my gambling. She offered me a way out."
Victoria's stomach churned. 'So, you betrayed me for money?"
'It's not just money!" Barry's voice rose, drawing a few glances from nearby tables. He lowered his voice, leaning in closer. 'It's my life, Victoria. My career. You don't understand what she's capable of."
Victoria's mind raced. She had known Amaya was ruthless, but to think she would manipulate Barry so thoroughly… 'What exactly did she promise you?"
Barry glanced around nervously before speaking. 'She said she could clear my debts. Make the people I owe disappear. But there was more. She also promised me a spot on her plan—said that if I helped her bring you down, I'd get a share of whatever she was after."
'And you believed her?" Victoria's voice was filled with disbelief. 'You think she's just going to hand over whatever she gets? You're a pawn, Barry. We both are."
Barry's expression darkened. 'What choice did I have? Do you think I wanted to do this? She had me by the throat, Victoria. I didn't have a way out."
Victoria leaned back, anger and disappointment swirling inside her. She had trusted Barry once and thought of him as an ally, but now he was just another player in Amaya's twisted game. 'So, what's her endgame? What does she want?"
Barry shook his head, his voice lowering to a near whisper. 'Control. Over you, over Louis, over everything. She wants to be the one pulling the strings, making the decisions. She's been building leverage, piece by piece, and we're just pawns on her board."
Victoria clenched her fists under the table. 'This isn't just about the marriage, is it? It's about power."
Barry nodded. 'It's always been about power. She doesn't just want Louis; she wants the Sebastian empire. She's tired of being on the outside looking in, and she's willing to do whatever it takes to get inside."
Victoria's thoughts were a whirlwind of betrayal and rage. She had known this arranged marriage was more than it seemed, but to see the depths of Amaya's ambition laid bare was another blow entirely. 'We need to stop her," Victoria said firmly, her eyes locking onto Barry's. 'I need you to help me bring her down."
Barry's eyes widened. 'Victoria, I'm in too deep. If she finds out I'm even talking to you—"
'She won't," Victoria interrupted, her voice cold and determined. 'Not if we play it smart. You owe me, Barry. You owe me more than just excuses."
Barry swallowed, the weight of her words sinking in. He glanced down at the table, a battle waging in his mind. Finally, he nodded, albeit reluctantly. 'Okay. What do you need me to do?"
Victoria allowed herself a small, grim smile. 'We're going to take away her leverage. Piece by piece, just like she did to us. But first, we need to find out exactly who else is working with her. We need names, Barry. And we need them fast."
Barry nodded, though the fear still lingered in his eyes. 'I'll see what I can do. But Victoria… be careful. Amaya's not playing games. If she feels cornered, she'll come after you. Hard."
Victoria stood up, her resolve firm. 'Let her. I'm done playing by her rules."
As she left the café, her mind was already working on the next steps. Amaya had pushed her too far, and now it was time to push back. But as determined as she was, Victoria couldn't shake the uneasy feeling that this was only the beginning. The web of lies and betrayal was far more tangled than she had ever imagined, and she was caught right in the middle of it.
Victoria's phone buzzed as she stepped onto the sidewalk, snapping her out of her thoughts. A message from an unknown number. She opened it, her breath catching as she read the words: 'You're getting too close. Back off if you know what's good for you."
Her heart raced, but instead of fear, she felt a surge of defiance. She typed a quick response, her fingers steady. 'Not a chance."
Victoria slipped her phone back into her bag and walked on, determination in every step. She had a fight ahead of her, and she was ready to face it head-on.
