Blood Boils
Louis stormed through the grand entrance of Daniella's high-rise apartment, his heart pounding with fury. He could feel the anger that was growing by the step, his pulse rising as he prepared himself for the confrontation that had been brewing within him for days.
The weight of Victoria's ruined reputation, the onslaught of lies in the press, and the fallout at Sebastian Industries all pointed to one person: his sister.
It was Daniella. He knew it, and with all the evidence that came pouring in, he knew he could not look the other way any longer.
As he reached her door, he had barely time to knock before it swung open to reveal Daniella standing with a knowing smirk on her face; she had been expecting him.
"Well, well," she drawled, leaning against the doorframe. "To what do I owe this surprise visit?"
Louis gritted his teeth, his anger boiling over. He pushed past her into the apartment, barely registering her casual demeanor. His singular focus now is to get answers.
"Don't play games with me, Daniella," Louis spat, his voice trembling with the barest hold on restrained fury. "You know exactly why I'm here."
Daniella slammed the door shut behind him, her smirk broadening as she crossed her arms over her chest. "I'm sure you've come to accuse me of something terrible, as usual. Go ahead. Let's hear it."
Louis spun around to face her, his fists clenched at his sides. "You've been feeding the press lies about Victoria. All of these stories-embezzlement, fraud, corruption-it's all you, isn't it?"
She didn't falter over her smile, but her eyes shone like diamonds in triumph. "What makes you think I have anything to do with that? Perhaps the media is finally catching on to who your precious wife is."
Louis took a step closer; his voice was low, but the intensity remained. "Don't lie to me, Daniella. I know you've been working with Martin Lockhart. I know he's helping you destroy Victoria's reputation. I've seen the fabricated evidence. It all traces back to you."
For one second, Daniella's face hardened; in the next, she'd recovered, her face twisting wryly into a cold, mirthless smile. "And what if I am? What are you going to do about it, Louis? You can't undo what has already been done. Victoria's reputation is in tatters, and there's nothing you can do to change that."
Louis's heart began to pound, his veins coursing with a mixture of anger and disbelief. "You think this is some kind of game? This is our family, Daniella! This is my wife's life you're destroying."
Daniella's eyes flashed with anger as she took a step closer, her voice rising. "Your wife? Your wife is the reason I've lost everything, Louis! How dare you come off all self-righteous on me? She's the one who took what was rightfully mine-the estate, the family fortune, the company! And you stood right by her, traitor that you are!
Louis's fists clenched and his breathing came in ragged heaves while he fought for control. "This isn't about the estate, Daniella is about your distorted need for revenge. You're ready to burn everything to the ground just to spite Victoria."
Daniella laughed bitterly, her head shaking in disbelief. "You're blind, Louis; you have always been blind when it comes to her.
Victoria plays the perfect little wife, and poor you, you have no idea what she is capable of doing. She manipulates you, manipulates the whole family, and this is the price you pay for that.
Louis's anger surged, and he took a threatening step closer, his voice low and deadly. "Victoria has done nothing but try to build a life with me, with this family. You are the one who has been tearing everything apart with your greed and your jealousy. And now you're trying to drag her down with lies."
Daniella's face twisted in anger as her cool veneer cracked. "Lies? Do you believe that all this I have done is a lie? You are a fool, Louis. A fool that allowed a woman to rob you blind, and now I am taking what rightfully will be mine. You may hate me for this, but somewhere deep inside, you know well I am right.
Louis's heart was racing, his vision blurring with the intensity of his anger. He had always known that Daniella's hatred for Victoria ran deep, but seeing it now, full-blown, was something else altogether. This was not sibling rivalry; this was war.
"You won't get away with this," Louis said, his teeth gritted. "I'll make sure the truth comes out. I'll make sure everyone knows what you've done."
Daniella's eyes seemed to narrow to tiny slits, her voice lowering down into a deadly whisper. "And what makes you think anybody is going to believe you? The press is all over this. They're now gunning for Victoria to fall, and I've given them exactly what they want.
No matter what you say at this juncture, the horse has left the barn."
Louis felt helpless as his mind was racing to find a way to patch up what was left of Victoria's reputation. But deep down, he knew that Daniella was right: the press didn't care about the truth; they cared about the scandal, about the smashing of a public figure. And Daniella had given them just what they would need to destroy Victoria.
"You're pathetic," Louis said, his voice shaking with emotion. "I thought we were family. I thought you still had some decency left in you, but it seems I was mistaken. You'll destroy everything just to feel powerful."
Daniella's eyes shone with hatred and satisfaction. "You chose her over me, Louis. You chose a woman who has done nothing but lie and manipulate her way into our family. I'm simply evening the playing field."
Louis stepped backward, his heart heavy with all that had been said. He couldn't fathom how far Daniella had fallen, how thick her hate for Victoria was. Now, this relationship-what little was left of it-was broken.
"This isn't over," Louis said in a quiet, resolute tone. "I'm going to write this. And when the truth finally comes out, you will have nothing left.
The smirk again played on Daniella's face, her eyes shining with malice. "Good luck with that, brother. But by the time you figure out how to clean up this mess, it will be too late. Victoria will be done."
Louis's chest tightened as he turned and walked out of the apartment, the fury and betrayal burning in his veins. It was his sister, his blood and flesh, who had betrayed him in the worst possible way; now it was up to him to stop her.
He was on his way to the estate, going over in his mind what the next steps were. He had to find a way to clear Victoria's name, to show just how big a liar Daniella was. But even as he tried to formulate a plan, he knew that the road ahead would be long and insurmountable. Daniella had set a trap, and they had walked right into it.
But Louis wasn't going to let her win.
