Facing the Past
The nursery was almost done. Louis stood by the crib, touching the smooth wood and thinking about the baby they were about to welcome. The empty room was now warm and cozy with blankets, baby clothes, and toys neatly placed on shelves. It felt real now, the life he and Victoria had worked so hard for was finally happening.
But as days went by and Victoria's belly grew, both of them felt a hidden worry that they didn't talk about. The memories of the past were still there, even if unspoken. The betrayal, the shooting, Daniella's actions-it all lingered like a shadow, reminding Louis that even with joy ahead, they couldn't completely forget what had happened.
Victoria walked in, her hands on her belly. She smiled at Louis by the crib, but there was a touch of uncertainty in her eyes.
"You're in here again," she teased gently, leaning on the doorframe. "You'll wear out the floor from pacing."
Louis laughed, but he had a serious look. "I can't help it. Sometimes I can't believe this is real."
Victoria approached him, her gaze softening. "It is real. We're having a baby. Our baby." She took his hand and squeezed it. "You're going to be a great dad, Louis. I know it."
He smiled at her but still looked uncertain. He kissed her hand and sat on the edge of the crib. "I want to believe that."
Victoria noticed the tension. "But?"
Louis sighed and ran his hand through his hair. "But I keep thinking about everything we've been through. What if I had done things differently? What if I had seen Daniella's true side sooner? What if I had protected you better?"
Victoria looked at him with understanding. She sat beside him and placed her hand on his shoulder. "Louis, you did your best. What happened with Daniella wasn't your fault."
Louis shook his head, feeling the guilt heavy on his heart. "But it feels like it was. I didn't see the signs until it was too late. You almost died because of it."
Victoria's eyes were filled with sympathy. She understood how deeply Louis felt the weight of those dark days. She had healed, but she could see he still struggled to forgive himself.
"Louis," she said gently, turning to face him. "You've been blaming yourself for something you couldn't control. Daniella made her choices, not you. Yes, it was terrible, but we survived. We have a future ahead of us. You don't need to keep punishing yourself for the past."
Louis looked down, his eyes filled with emotion. "I just... I don't want our child to feel the darkness of my mistakes."
Victoria held his face gently, making him look at her. "Our child will grow up with love. They will know how much we fought for them and wanted a better life. That's what matters-our future, not the past."
Louis blinked, tears in his eyes as he nodded slowly. "You always know what to say," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
Victoria smiled, wiping away a tear from his cheek. "I've had a lot of practice."
They shared a quiet moment, feeling lighter and more hopeful. Victoria leaned against him as they sat by the crib, both letting go of the shadows that haunted them.
A few days later, Victoria looked in the mirror, hands on her growing belly. The pregnancy had been full of ups and downs, but now she felt something else-a sense of unfinished business.
"Are you okay?" Louis asked, wrapping his arms around her.
Victoria looked at him in the mirror, a hesitant smile on her lips. "I've been thinking..."
Louis raised an eyebrow. "About?"
"Daniella," she said softly. "I feel like I need to do something. Some kind of closure."
Louis tensed at the mention of his sister. "You've already forgiven her. Isn't that enough?"
Victoria sighed, turning to face him. "I have forgiven her, but I feel like I need to see her. I don't want this to hang over us anymore."
Louis frowned, feeling protective. "You want to visit her in prison?"
Victoria nodded firmly. "Yes. Just once. I need to talk to her and put the past behind us."
Louis hesitated, torn. He wanted to protect Victoria, but he knew she was right. They couldn't fully move forward without addressing their past.
"If that's what you need," Louis said quietly, "then I'll support you."
Victoria smiled gratefully and kissed him. "Thank you. I know it's hard for you, but I need this."
The next day, Victoria visited the prison where Daniella was held. Months had passed since Daniella turned herself in, and even though she had shown regret, the pain she caused the Sebastian family ran deep.
Victoria sat in the visiting room, heart racing as she prepared for the conversation. She wasn't sure what to expect, but she knew this was important for her healing.
When Daniella entered, she looked different-hollow and changed by months in prison. She sat across from Victoria, hands shackled, and for a moment, neither spoke.
"Victoria," Daniella said softly, her voice hoarse. "I didn't think you'd come."
Victoria swallowed hard, her emotions mixed. "I wasn't sure either, but I needed to see you. We need to move forward."
Daniella's eyes filled with tears. "I'm so sorry for everything. I know that doesn't change anything, but I needed you to know."
"I know you're sorry," Victoria said gently. "And I forgive you. But this is the last time I'll carry the weight of what happened. I'm moving on. Louis and I are starting a family, and we deserve a future free from this."
Daniella cried freely now, shoulders shaking. "You deserve happiness, Victoria. I wish I could change everything."
Victoria stood, feeling lighter after their talk. "You can't change it, but you can learn from it. I hope you do."
With that, she walked out, leaving the past behind.
