Evan Part 8
I opened my eyes when I felt the sun hit my face and blind my eyes.
"Are you awake, Leslie?" My mother's soft voice woke me entirely from my deep sleep. I breathed a sigh of relief when I didn't see Evan's ghost again. It's 9:00 a.m. I've been asleep for a while.
"How are you?" my mother asked again, sitting beside me.
"I'm fine, Mom."
"In that case, good. Quick shower, then breakfast. Mother is waiting outside."
"Yes, Mom," I answered briefly. The mother rushed to leave me.
I didn't go straight to the bathroom. My mind was still filled with the promise I made to Evan's ghost to help him. But how do I help him? I don't even have any clue about him other than his name. Where is the jewellery store I should go to? My biggest problem is that I need to know Mira's home address. Evan's ghost did not clearly show me his memories.
I wouldn't be this confused in the past because Angie would always help me. But now, I can't ask Angie for help. She has her own thing to do teaching at Grandes High School; she's also pregnant, and I don't want to put her in any more danger. Asking Dad to accompany me is impossible because Dad must be working now.
There's still a mother who certainly wouldn't refuse if I asked her to take me to find the jeweller, but I'd never gotten her involved before, and I would never get her involved with a ghost.
In a situation like this, I can think of only one person left. Sean, yes, he's the only one I can ask for help. There's no way I'm looking for a jewellery store that I don't even know where it is by myself, right? Significantly, when I'm injured like this. However, I can not deny I was hesitant to contact Sean. Since the accident, he hasn't even called me or texted me once. If there were other options, I would choose that other option rather than asking Sean for help. Fully aware that there was no choice but to Sean, I finally got up from bed. I took my cell phone that was lying on my study table.
I looked for Sean's number, but for some reason, my heart was beating fast even before I dialled the number. But finally, I dared to call that number.
"Hello." That voice I missed so much relieved me because he received my call.
"Hello, Sean. Excuse me, are you busy?"
"No. What is it?" Sean asked coldly, making the relieved feeling turn into disappointment this second.
"How are you? The wound on your hand is getting better, right?"
"Hmm, that's it," he replied coldly. Oh, come on now, I'm more and more convinced that he has indeed changed. My hunch was correct. He didn't even ask how I was, even though I was hurting like him.
"S-Sean, can I ask you a favor?" This time, I asked him fearfully. I was afraid he would say something that would break my heart.
"Sure, just say it." I breathed a sigh of relief, even though his tone was still cold, but at least he didn't immediately say no.
"Last night a ghost came to me. He's one of the ghost victims of yesterday's accident. He asked for my help to…"
"Tell me the gist of it," he said, cutting off my story, which stunned me immediately.
"I would like to ask you to accompany me to look for a jewelry store." Finally, I said my primary purpose for asking for his help.
"Hm, alright. I'm going to your house now. You're ready," he said, making a smile tug at my lips even though he couldn't see it.
"Okay. Thank you, Sean." He also disconnected the phone. He is so cold. He treats me coldly. I want to cry right now, but I know it's not the time. I rushed to take a shower. After getting dressed neatly, I approached my mother, of course, to eat the food that my mother had prepared for me on purpose.
"Where are you going already beautiful like this?" asked Mother, looking at me from head to toe.
"I'm going to hang out with Sean for a bit."
"Oh, you guys want a date, huh? Why don't you just rest, your wounds are still not healed right?"
"I have something important to do, Mom, it won't take long," I replied. I'm not lying; there are essential things I have to do, but I can't possibly tell Mom that this important thing is related to the ghost that came to me last night.
"But thank you seem to have reconciled with Sean." I don't know what to answer because I can only smile.
I heard a vibrating sound that must have been coming from my cell phone. I immediately picked up the call, which was from Sean.
"Yeah, Sean," I replied cheerfully. I'm glad he finally called me.
"I'm already under your apartment. Come down."
"Yeah, I'll be right down." Like before, this time, he immediately hung up the phone. Mom looked surprised because usually, Sean would stop by my apartment when he came here, but now he doesn't even stop by and say hello to my mom. He prefers to wait downstairs. I was confused, looking for the reason to answer Sean's strangeness that my mother caught. Luckily, I have a very understanding mother, so she doesn't mind this. I rushed away.
Once in my apartment building, I looked around for Sean but couldn't see him anywhere.
I was relieved when I saw Sean calling me back, so without hesitation, I picked up.
"Where are you, Sean?"
"I'm on the side of the road. You see the black car. I was in that car." Exactly as he said, there was a beautiful car parked there. I rushed over to him. The car's glass was opened as soon as I stood near him, and Sean's figure was seen sitting in the driver's seat. Without hesitation, I got into the car.
"You brought the car, Sean?" I asked him as kindly as I could.
"You didn't forget that my motorbike caught fire, did you?"
"Oh, yeah," I replied with a chuckle.
"But I didn't expect you to be able to drive a car."
"Where are we going?" he asked, ignoring my words earlier. However, his question made me aware of my primary purpose for asking him to accompany me.
"Actually I don't know the address of that jewellery shop. but I think the jewellery store is close to the crash site yesterday." I answered awkwardly. I was afraid Sean would scold me. But I was wrong, he didn't say anything. He drove his car at moderate speed.
There was no conversation during the trip, even though there were so many questions in my heart. But once beside him, all those questions seemed to disappear instantly.
"How are your injuries?" he asked, which made me gasp, but at the same time, I was glad that he still cared about me.
"It's fine. Oh yes. When are you going back to college, Sean?"
"I don't know, I'm still not feeling well." I immediately looked at him as soon as I heard his answer. Could he be sick? But he looks healthy.
"You are sick?" I asked without taking my eyes off him.
"Just frequent headaches and headaches," he answered briefly.
"Maybe you have too much on your mind. You know I'm still waiting... waiting for you to tell me all your problems."
"I told you, I don't have any problems."
"Trouble with your mother."
"I don't want to talk about that!!" His voice rose to cut my words. I was immediately silent. I don't want yesterday's fight to happen again. For now, silence is the best decision.
After that brief conversation, silence returned to accompany our journey. Without realizing it, we arrived at the scene yesterday. The chaos in this place was no longer visible; only traces of the burnt streets were visible. Yesterday's horrific scene replayed in my mind.
"Leslie." The sound of his call made me turn my gaze to the street, and now I looked back at Sean.
"Where is the jewelry shop? It should be close, right?"
"I guess so, we'll stop at the shopping area instead. We'll ask the people there." Sean didn't answer; he just stayed focused on running his car, and we decided to stop when we arrived at the shopping area.
Various types of shops are here. Sean and I went around asking about the location of jewellery stores and several people we met. Thanks to him, we entered several jewellery shops, but we are still looking for the jewellery shop we are looking for.
We entered a jewellery store that looked luxurious from the outside. Upon entering the shop, the scenery is very familiar, making me sure this is the jewellery shop we seek. I became more convinced when I saw this shopkeeper who was the same as the shopkeeper who served Evan in his memory world.
The waitress greeted us kindly.
"Good afternoon. How can I help you? Are you looking for engagement or wedding rings?" asked the waiter, who instantly made my eyes widen perfectly. I also felt nervous for a moment. I looked at Sean; he was silent, and his expression looked flat. He didn't seem bothered in the least by the maid's words.
"No, I'd like to pick up a custom ring on Evan's behalf," I replied matter-of-factly.
"Oh, isn't Mr. Evan himself the one who took it?" she asked again. The waiter finally told me the actual incident. Of course, the maid didn't believe me just like that. I didn't know what to do anymore so the maid would give me his ring.
"Has the ring been paid for?" Sean asked, finally speaking after being silent all along.
"Mr. Evan already paid for it."
"If you don't believe us, you can come with us to the address Evan gave us. He must have given the address, right?"
"Yes, Mr. Evan gave us his home address."
"Then come with us to deliver the ring." I also thought about this for a while, but I didn't expect Sean to think the same as me.
"But I can't leave the shop now."
"Then who are the representatives from this shop, we don't have much time either. We have to hand over the ring immediately so this matter is over quickly." Finally, the maid agreed.
Of course, I was immensely relieved by that. Sean's face looked annoyed. It's only natural because, for the umpteenth time, I have troubled him and got him involved with ghosts. But most importantly, I have to help ghost Evan quickly. Hopefully, everything will go smoothly, and no more chaos will befall us. Besides, I have a lot of things to talk about with Sean after settling this matter.
