Haunted House Part 4
Sean remained silent, his gaze sharply fixed on me. I knew he disagreed with my wishes, but I wouldn't give up so easily.
"Leslie, do you remember why we came to this place?" Sean finally spoke.
I nodded, still remembering clearly why we came here. "We came here for our honeymoon because our parents gave us this as a gift."
"Yes, that's true. So why should we bother dealing with issues that are none of our business?"
"We're stranded in this place because of you, because of your carelessness. Don't tell me you've forgotten that."
Sean sighed. "Why do you keep bringing that up? Can't you forgive me?"
"Just trying to remind you of our reason for being here. You were the one who asked, right? You brought up this issue first."
"Because of that, let's go to the nearest village, buy fuel for the speedboat, and return to the hotel immediately. After that, the problem is solved. We can enjoy the honeymoon that was our original purpose for coming here."
I firmly rejected his invitation. "No. How can I just leave after knowing there's a mystery that I need to uncover the truth about?"
"A mystery?" Sean laughed, mocking my words. "You're the only one who considers this a mystery, even though there may be no problem at all. Did you hear the man say that the family who owns that house might be away in London?"
"Sean, don't you understand? I saw the ghost of a little boy the same age as the house owner's child. I feel sorry for him. His face is full of wounds, and when he asked for help, telling me how much pain he was in, do you think I can ignore that?"
"The ghost asked for your help?"
I nodded. "Yes, he asked for help and said he was in pain. He cried, Sean. His cry was heartbreaking. I could feel the sadness of the ghost boy."
"Did the ghost show his memories to you?"
I fell silent because, unlike the ghosts that usually appeared to me, the ghost boy left without showing his memories.
"Why are you silent?" Sean asked again.
"He didn't show his memories. He just left, disappearing behind the wall."
"Huh, then he didn't intend to ask for your help. If he really wanted help, he would have shown his memories like the ghosts who usually appear to you."
This argument made me extremely annoyed; Sean was so stubborn, indifferent to all the mysteries in that house. However, I wouldn't be Leslie if I gave up so easily.
"It's precisely because he didn't show his memories that I'm very curious to know what happened to him. Moreover, he spoke directly to me. I heard it clearly; he asked for help."
Sean looked annoyed, his face reddening, and he turned his face away, not wanting to look at me. I would do anything to persuade him, so I held his hand and looked at him intently.
"Sean, you don't care because you didn't see their figures. But if you can see them, I'm sure you'll be like me. You won't be able to ignore them. You'll feel pity and compassion for them, especially hearing them cry for help. I beg you to consider my position, Sean."
Sean still didn't say anything, even ignoring my hand. "Besides seeing the apparition of the little boy, I also heard screams from the forest. Cries of pain. If you heard them, could you just ignore them when only you can help them and reveal the truth?"
Although Sean remained silent, I took advantage of this situation to continue persuading him. "Besides, didn't you promise to always help and accompany me? You'll always be by my side no matter what happens. Do you remember your promise when we bathed together at the hotel?"
Sean, who had been silent until now, finally responded. He sighed and looked at me. "You never change, always like this."
"Because I believe it's the reason God gave me the ability to see and communicate with ghosts, surely so I can help the wandering spirits who experienced injustice in their lifetime. I am destined to assist those who are no longer alive."
I gently stroked Sean's face, smiling to ease the tense atmosphere between us. "Don't you think the reason we ended up in this place is fate, so I can uncover the mystery in that house?"
"Maybe it's just a coincidence."
I shook my head in disagreement. "There are no coincidences in this world, Sean. Everything that happens is predetermined. Besides, do you remember last night when the door of the house opened by itself as we were about to leave? It must be a sign because the ghosts in that house asked for our help. Right? They asked us to stay in the house."
Sean fell silent again, and I was getting frustrated. "Come on, Sean. Let's go back to the house. After this mystery is solved, we'll go straight back to the hotel and continue our honeymoon. What do you say? Will you fulfill your promise to always help and be with me?"
"Huh, I've never been able to win against you, Leslie."
I grinned happily. "So, are you willing to grant my request? Will you come back to the house with me?"
Sean nodded. "Yes, okay. Let's go back to the house and uncover the mystery you mentioned."
I was overjoyed, so without hesitation, I threw myself into Sean's arms. "Thank you, Sean. Thank you, my husband."

"The ghost of the little boy brought me here, and he disappeared after passing through the toy shelf and this wall," I explained to Sean about the events from last night. We had returned to the Waston family's house, and I brought Sean to the children's room where the ghost had led me the night before.
"Hmm, I see. What's your plan now?"
"Wait here until the ghost of the little boy appears."
"What if he doesn't show up in this room?"
"I'm sure he will because when we were about to leave earlier, he appeared again. He peeked from behind that window." I pointed to the window in the room, not far from the bed. "He stood in front of the window, waving his hand at me, asking me not to leave."
"Hmm, alright then. Until you see the ghost, we'll wait here."
Sean sat on the sofa in the room, while I stood, looking at the toy shelf and the wall where the ghost of the little boy had disappeared. "Hey, come out. Auntie is back. Show yourself and tell me what happened to you so you can move on," I said, attempting to communicate with the ghost. However, he still didn't appear.
"Did he come out?" Sean asked, and I shook my head. "Just wait a little longer; maybe he'll show up soon and reveal his world to you."
"Yes, you're right."
"Sit down. Aren't you tired of standing there?"
I followed Sean's advice, sitting on the small bed only suitable for a child. I glanced around the room; upon closer inspection, it was decorated as beautifully as possible for a boy. The walls were covered with many favorite cartoon drawings, and the bedspread had a cartoon motif. There were numerous robot toys and toy cars on the shelf and even on the table. The most prominent were the large toy cars that hit my feet last night. I could feel the joy of the person who decorated this room because the view looked cheerful.
"Leslie, are you hungry?" Sean asked, successfully diverting my gaze to him.
"Not too hungry yet."
"It's already noon. Well, almost evening. We should eat. I'll prepare some food for us." Sean stood up after saying that.
I quickly stood up to join him. "I'll help you prepare food in the kitchen."
"No need. You just wait here. Maybe the ghost will appear soon, and I'll prepare the food myself."
Without waiting for my response, Sean walked out of the room, leaving me alone.
"Your name is Rory, right? Aren't you coming out because you're embarrassed about the man earlier? He's Auntie's husband, so there's no need to be shy around him."
I tried to communicate with the ghost of the little boy, whom I believed to be Rory, hoping that this time he would come out and reveal himself to me.
"Last night, you said you were in pain and wanted Auntie to help you. So now, tell me what happened to you. Come out, Rory."
However, no matter how many times I tried to communicate with Rory, he didn't appear. I didn't know what else to do to make Rory show himself.
***
It was late at night, and Rory's ghost still hadn't appeared. Sean and I were still faithfully waiting in his room. Sean looked sleepy as he yawned several times.
"Leslie, it's late, and the ghost still hasn't shown up?"
I nodded. "Yes, he hasn't appeared even though I've tried to communicate with him several times."
"Tsk, we've been waiting for him all day in this room. It's already night; what if we go to sleep?"
I wanted to refuse his invitation, but on the other hand, I couldn't bear to see Sean, who seemed bored and very sleepy. "You go to sleep first. Sleeping on the sofa must be uncomfortable, so sleep in the room we used last night."
"And you? What will you do now?"
"I'm still not sleepy. Besides, maybe Rory's ghost will appear soon. He appeared last night and showed himself to me; maybe he'll show up when night falls."
"So, you intend to wait here."
"Yes," I replied without hesitation.
"In that case, I'll sleep here."
"But sleeping on the sofa won't be comfortable, Sean. How about you sleep in this bed?" I said, pointing to the small bed I had been sitting on.
"You sleep there. You also need rest, Leslie. Lie down on that bed; I'll sleep on this sofa."
"But..."
"This sofa is soft and comfortable enough to sleep on; you don't need to worry about me. Better focus on that ghost."
"Are you sure you won't sleep downstairs?"
Sean snorted. "I promised to always accompany you in any situation, right? I'm just trying to keep that promise."
Sean didn't say anything else; he closed his eyes, and I didn't disturb him anymore. I let him rest. Feeling tired, I lay down on the bed. I tried my best to stay awake and keep my eyes open, but drowsiness began to overcome me, and unconsciously, I fell asleep.
"Akkhhh!"
The sound was heard again, the scream of a woman that sounded agonizing and painful. I quickly opened my eyes; apparently, I had slept for quite a while.
"Akkhhh!"
The scream became louder, still the same as last night, and the voice was coming from the pine forest.
"Sean...."
I abandoned the intention to wake Sean when I saw how soundly he was sleeping. I also felt sorry for Sean; he must be very tired.
"I have to go to the forest right now. Yes, I have to find out who is making this screaming sound."
I made up my mind, and I wouldn't back down. Before leaving, I glanced at Sean's face once again. I remembered he forbade me to go to the forest alone, but I didn't want to disturb his sleep. Sean would probably be angry when he found out I violated his prohibition by going to the forest alone, but I would still go. I had to find the owner of this screaming sound now.
