More Enemies Than Allies
The figure in the doorway stood motionless, blocking their only escape route. Selene's heart raced as she took in the new arrival, her mind swirling with questions.
Who were these people? And why was everything getting more and more complicated?
The man in front of her, who had led her through the chaos, also froze. His eyes locked onto the figure in the doorway, but there was no sign of surprise.
A small frown flickered across his face, but he didn't move to defend himself or her. It was as if he had been expecting them.
'You've got to be kidding me." The voice that came from the doorway was calm, but laced with something dangerous.
The man's tone was almost mocking as he stepped further into the room. Selene's body tensed as she tried to get a better look at him.
The newcomer was tall, his presence commanding, unlike the others she had encountered, there was something undeniably calculated about him.
His eyes scanned the room, his gaze lingering on Selene for a moment, but he didn't speak directly to her.
'You think this is the right choice?" the man in the doorway asked, his voice low and steady.
He took another step forward, his boots making a soft sound as they hit the floor. 'You're making a huge mistake."
The figure who had been guiding Selene, who had seemed to be in control until now gave a small and almost imperceptible shake of his head.
'I didn't have a choice," he muttered, his voice cold, but there was something behind the words. Regret or maybe resignation.
Selene felt the walls of the room closing in, the figure in the doorway wasn't giving any ground, and the tension between them was so thick that it felt like the air itself had become heavier.
She could almost feel the danger pressing down on her, suffocating her with every breath.
'You really think you can control this?" the newcomer asked, his words directed more at the man who had been leading her than at Selene. 'You've got no idea who's really in charge."
There was a flicker of recognition in the figure's eyes, but it was quickly masked. He turned his gaze toward Selene, his eyes intense, almost apologetic.
'It's not what you think," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. 'You're in the middle of something much bigger and it's not just your life at stake."
Selene's heart skipped a beat. 'What do you mean?" she demanded, her voice shaking with the weight of the question. 'What's going on and who are you people?"
The man in the doorway smirked. 'You really don't get it, do you?" He stepped further into the room, his presence making Selene feel even more trapped. 'The choices you've been making have all been part of someone else's plan."
Before Selene could respond, a sudden, loud bang from outside the room made her jump.
Her head whipped toward the noise, and the tension in her body increased tenfold. The man in the doorway didn't flinch, but the look in his eyes shifted.
He seemed to be calculating and weighing something in his mind. 'Get ready," he muttered to the figure beside Selene.
'Get ready for what?" Selene asked, her voice rising. She felt like she was being pulled in every direction, trapped between too many forces she didn't understand.
But before the man could answer, the sound of more footsteps approached rapidly, the air in the room felt thick with danger and every second stretching out longer than the last.
'You have no idea what you're dealing with." The man's voice was sharp, filled with a quiet menace.
He turned toward the door, his movements smooth and deliberate. 'But you will soon enough."
Just as Selene opened her mouth to ask what he meant, the door was slammed open with a force that sent the walls vibrating.
The sound of footsteps stormed into the room, and Selene's heart dropped into her stomach.
They had no more time. In an instant, the figure at the door turned back to face her, his expression hardening.
'Get down!" he shouted, and before Selene could react, he grabbed her by the arm, pulling her to the floor.
The world exploded into noise as gunshots rang out, the deafening cracks of bullets striking the walls.
The man next to her didn't flinch. Instead, he moved with calculated precision, pulling her behind a piece of cover as more gunfire echoed in the small room.
Selene's body tensed with fear, adrenaline surging through her veins as her mind raced.
The room was now a battleground, chaos erupting around them, but her mind couldn't focus on anything except the figure in front of her.
He wasn't panicking but calm like he had been through this too many times.
'Stay down." His voice was steady, sharp with authority. 'They'll be looking for you."
'What's happening? Who are they?" Selene asked, her breath coming in ragged gasps as she crouched down, pressing herself against the floor for safety.
The gunfire continued, echoing in her ears, but the man remained unmoved, focused, and waiting for the right moment.
'They're here for you," he replied without hesitation. 'And they're not leaving until they have you."
His words hit her like a punch to the gut, they were here for her but why and what did they want from her?
She was so focused on the chaos around her that she didn't notice the sudden change in the air.
The room seemed to grow colder, and the hairs on the back of her neck stood up.
There was something else coming and without warning, the lights flickered, casting the room in flashes of darkness before they illuminated once again.
But in the brief seconds of darkness, Selene heard something that made her blood run cold; a low, rumbling growl before she could react, the floor beneath her feet seemed to tremble.
The rumble grew louder, and a shadow passed over her, blocking the light from above, her eyes snapped upward and then she saw a massive figure, cloaked in shadow, step into the room.
It was unnatural, larger than any man she had ever seen, its movements were unnervingly swift.
The figure's eyes gleamed with a predatory light, and as it locked onto Selene, she felt her heart stop.
The gunfire immediately stopped as everyone froze and the air in the room grew still.
The figure took a slow, deliberate step toward her, its eyes glowing like embers in the dark.
The room was suffocating now, and Selene's pulse quickened with the realization that this wasn't just some random threat but was something much more dangerous and didn't seem like what she could outrun.
'This is it, Selene." The voice came from the figure, low and dangerous before she could react, the room was plunged into darkness once more, and Selene felt the world tilt around her.
