The Endgame
The darkness that enveloped the room felt suffocating, the air was thicker with tension and fear.
Selene's heart hammered in her chest, her breaths shallow as she tried to make sense of what was happening.
The figure before her was larger and more imposing than anything she had ever seen, looming in the darkness and its presence filling the room.
For a moment, everything seemed to be still, the deafening silence hung heavy and the only sound she could hear was the rapid beating of her own heart.
She couldn't move, couldn't even think because there was something primal about the figure's presence, something that made her instinctively want to flee, but her feet were rooted to the floor.
The figure stepped forward, and Selene's pulse quickened. Its glowing eyes pierced through the shadows and fixed on her.
It was so close now that she could feel the weight of its gaze pressing down on her.
'You are mine," the voice rumbled from the creature; low, guttural, and full of authority.
The words sent a shiver down her spine, a chill that seemed to freeze her in place.
Selene tried to back away, but her legs wouldn't move, she wasn't sure if it was fear or something else, but she was paralyzed and unable to act.
She had never felt so vulnerable and out of control.
She had been running for so long, trying to survive, but now it felt like she was finally caught in the trap she had been running from.
The figure took another step, and she could feel its presence growing stronger, its power overwhelming.
It wasn't just standing in front of her anymore; it felt like it was filling the entire room and the air around her grew colder while the walls closed in.
'You can't outrun this." The voice again, louder this time, and closer, it was like a cold wind blowing through her bones, leaving her shivering and weak. 'The game is over."
She couldn't breathe, the weight of its words pressed down on her, making it harder to think or focus.
Everything around her seemed to blur, the room spinning as the figure loomed closer, her body screamed at her to do something, anything, but her mind couldn't process it, at this point she felt trapped, helpless.
Then, a sound broke through the stillness like a sharp noise, like something was breaking, followed by footsteps but these were different.
They weren't the heavy, deliberate steps of the figure in front of her but were lighter, quicker, and almost desperate.
'Selene!"
The voice cut through the air like a lifeline, pulling her back from the edge of panic.
She snapped her head to the side with her eyes wide as she saw a familiar face in the doorway. Axel.
He was running toward her, his face etched with concern, his body moving faster than she had ever seen him move but didn't hesitate; he reached her side in an instant, grabbing her arm and pulling her away from the figure.
'Come on!" Axel shouted, his voice strained with urgency. 'We don't have time!"
But just as Selene felt herself being pulled to safety, a loud, bone-shaking growl ripped through the air.
The figure in front of her let out a low, menacing sound, a growl that seemed to vibrate through the very walls of the building.
The force of the sound sent a shockwave through her body, knocking her off balance and into Axel's arms.
'Get back here!" the figure roared, its voice filled with rage. 'You can't escape!"
Selene's head snapped around, her breath catching in her throat as she saw the creature taking a step forward, its massive form moving with unnatural speed.
Axel cursed under his breath, his grip tightening on her arm. 'Run!" Axel barked.
Selene didn't hesitate this time, they sprinted toward the exit but the heavy footsteps of the creature followed them, the growls growing louder with each passing second, and the ground beneath their feet seemed to shake as they ran, but she didn't dare look back.
They reached the door, but just as Axel was about to push it open, a sudden crash from behind them sent a wave of terror through Selene.
She turned around, her heart in her throat, to see the creature towering over them, its eyes burning with fury, the door was already blocked, and there was no way out.
'You're not going anywhere."
The voice was so close, so deep, that Selene could feel it in her chest, rattling her bones.
The creature's eyes fixed on her, and for the first time, she could see something in them that wasn't just anger, but hunger.
'Selene!" Axel shouted, snapping her out of her trance. He grabbed her by the shoulder and yanked her toward the far corner of the room. 'This way!"
They didn't have time to waste as the creature was still coming, its growls filling the room as it closed in on them.
Axel's hand was tight on her wrist, but she could feel the cold sweat on his palm as he dragged her along, his eyes wild with fear.
'We need to make it out, now!"
Selene's pulse was racing, her breath coming in short bursts and she didn't know how long they could keep running, but she knew they couldn't stop until they found a way out of this nightmare.
Just as they reached the far side of the room, a sharp crack echoed in the air, followed by a loud explosion.
The ceiling above them trembled, dust falling in heavy clumps.
The sound of the explosion made everything else seem distant like it was happening in another world.
Axel's eyes widened. 'No, no, no." but before Selene could ask what was happening, the ceiling above them gave way.
The world seemed to collapse around them as a massive chunk of debris fell between them and the door.
Axel barely managed to push her to the side in time, but he wasn't fast enough to avoid the falling rubble.
He shouted in pain, stumbling backward as a piece of metal struck his leg. Selene's heart stopped as she saw him fall to the ground, his face contorted with agony.
'Axel!" she screamed, rushing toward him.
The creature's growl echoed through the air, but Selene couldn't focus on that.
She dropped to her knees beside Axel, her hands shaking as she tried to help him up.
He groaned in pain, trying to push himself to his feet, but it was clear that he couldn't move without her help.
'We have to go, Axel." Her voice was desperate, pleading, but his eyes were clouded with pain. He couldn't keep running, not like this.
Suddenly, the sound of more footsteps echoed from behind them, and the door crashed open.
Figures rushed in, not the creature this time, but other armed men and more enemies.
Selene's mind screamed at her to move, to do something, but the weight of the situation was too much.
They were surrounded and just as she was about to make a last-ditch attempt to escape, the world went dark.
