Cloud of Captivity
Selene sat motionless, her wrists bound to the cold steel chair, her shoulders tight from hours of restraint and the last fight.
The dim, flickering light above cast distorted shadows against the concrete walls, making the room feel smaller than it was. Lucian wanted her to feel trapped. That was part of the game. He always preferred his victims to break before he even touched them but Selene wasn't just another victim.
She kept her breathing steady, ignoring the throbbing pain in her limbs. The restraints, the silence, and the waiting were all part of his strategy but she had survived worse, and she wouldn't let the weight of his presence crush her.
The door groaned open, the sound echoing through the confined space. Lucian stepped in, exuding the same calm authority he always carried.
Everything about him was calculated, from the slow way he moved to the faint smirk that tugged at his lips. He closed the door behind him, the soft click of the lock ringing louder than it should have. Selene didn't react.
Lucian studied her, his hands tucked neatly in his pockets. 'Still holding strong, I see." His voice was smooth, devoid of frustration as if her resistance amused him. 'You've been through a lot today."
Selene stared at him, refusing to acknowledge the statement. Lucian's smirk deepened. 'No response?" He sighed, shaking his head. 'You always make things so difficult." Selene exhaled slowly.
He was waiting for her to break the silence, to engage or give him something to twist against her but she wouldn't.
Lucian stepped closer, circling her chair with measured steps. 'You know," he murmured, 'it doesn't have to be like this." Selene clenched her fists, though the movement was subtle.
Lucian paused behind her, she felt the weight of his presence at her back, like the quiet pressure of a predator closing in.
He leaned slightly closer. 'I could make this easier for you." Selene's voice was cold, steady. 'Then why don't you?" Lucian chuckled, stepping back. 'Because you haven't earned it."
Selene lifted her chin slightly, meeting his gaze when he came back into view. His dark eyes were unreadable, but beneath the cool exterior, she knew there was something else he wasn't saying.
Lucian exhaled softly. 'You don't trust me." Selene scoffed. 'Should I?" Lucian smiled faintly. 'No." He turned toward the door, tapping his fingers against the handle. 'But I have something you'll want to see."
Selene didn't move as the door opened again and two guards stepped inside, between them was Eve.
Selene's pulse spiked, but she kept her face unreadable. Eve looked tired but unbroken, her wrists bound in front of her, her posture rigid with defiance and a faint bruise colored her cheek, a reminder of the price she had already paid.
Lucian's gaze flickered toward Selene. 'Reunited at last." Selene's fists curled tighter. This was a setup.
Lucian stepped toward Eve, watching Selene closely as he reached out, brushing his fingers along Eve's jaw.
Selene's body tensed, but she forced herself to remain still because this was what he wanted—a reaction, a crack in her defenses.
Eve didn't flinch, her glare locked onto Lucian with unwavering hatred. 'Touch me again," she said evenly, 'and I'll break your hand." Lucian chuckled, dropping his arm. 'Still sharp-tongued, I see."
He turned back to Selene. 'You have a choice." Selene exhaled slowly. 'I don't play your games," Lucian smirked. 'You already are."
He gestured slightly and the guards holding Eve responded instantly, yanking her back by her arms. Selene's heart pounded, but she didn't move.
Lucian watched her, waiting. 'Say the word, Selene, give me what I want, and this ends." Selene's voice was ice. 'And what exactly is it you want?" Lucian's gaze darkened. 'Loyalty." Selene let out a slow, measured breath.
He wanted her submission, he wanted her under his control, bending to his will but she had given up too much already.
Lucian sighed, tilting his head. 'No?" But Selene didn't speak.
Lucian's smirk faded. 'Then we do this the hard way." He gave a small nod and the guard nearest Eve struck.
Eve's body jerked as the blow landed, pain flashing across her face, but she didn't cry out. Selene's vision went red.
Lucian stepped closer, lowering his voice. 'One word, Selene," he murmured. 'That's all it takes." Selene's jaw clenched. If she spoke now, she lost and if she stayed silent, Eve suffered. Lucian waited, his patience endless.
Eve's breath was unsteady, but her gaze was fierce. 'Don't," she rasped. Lucian exhaled softly. 'You two make this so predictable." He nodded again and the guard moved but Selene moved faster.
Her body twisted, her leg kicking out hard and the chair's back legs scraped against the floor as she threw her full weight into the motion, slamming into the nearest guard. He stumbled, caught off guard, and in that split second, Eve reacted. She lunged, using the distraction to break free.
Lucian sighed. 'I was hoping you'd behave." Selene ignored him, her heart pounding as she used her momentum to wrench herself from the chair. She was still bound, but she wasn't powerless.
Eve grabbed a discarded metal tray from the table nearby and swung it at the second guard. The impact was sharp, the sound of metal striking bone echoing through the room but Lucian remained still, watching with mild amusement.
Selene turned sharply, scanning the space–one exit was locked and no weapons were within reach.
Lucian tilted his head. 'You think you're getting out of here?" Selene didn't answer, she was already calculating the next move.
Lucian exhaled, stepping back. 'You never learn." Selene met his gaze, her voice low. 'Neither do you," Lucian smirked. 'Then let's see how long you last." He gestured again and the guards moved forward, reinforcements entering through the door.
Selene's pulse spiked, they were outnumbered, but not beaten. Eve exhaled sharply. 'We fight." Selene nodded once. 'We fight." Then chaos erupted.
