The Fall Begins and The Weight of Justice
Lucian's breath was uneven beneath Selene's grip, but his eyes—sharp, calculating—still searched for a way out. Even now, when the walls were closing in, he refused to accept defeat.
Selene felt the weight of everything at this moment. Years of his manipulation, his control, his cruelty—it all led to this.
She tightened her hold. 'No more games, Lucian." Lucian exhaled, a slow smirk curling his lips. 'You think this is over?" Selene's jaw clenched. It had to be.
There was a sudden shift in his body but Selene reacted too late. Lucian wrenched free, his body twisting as he drove his elbow into her ribs. Pain exploded through her side.
She staggered while Lucian seized the moment, rolling to his feet but Eve moved fast, stepping in front of Selene, weapon raised and Lucian remained stilled.
For the first time, a flicker of uncertainty crossed his face. Eve's grip was steady. She wasn't hesitating.
Lucian's smirk returned, but it was thinner now, more forced. 'Are you really going to shoot me, Eve?" Eve's voice was cold. 'I should." Lucian's gaze flicked between them. He was cornered, and he knew it.
Selene pushed herself up, her breathing ragged. She had underestimated his desperation.
Lucian tilted his head. 'You can't win without me." Selene exhaled. 'I already have." Lucian chuckled softly but there was no humor in it.
Selene took a step forward. 'Give up, Lucian." His smirk faded, for a moment, the room was silent and then Lucian moved.
Eve fired, and the shot rang through the air leaving Lucian frozen.
Selene's breath caught as Lucian staggered, his hand pressing against his side with blood seeping through his fingers.
Eve's hands trembled, but she didn't lower the gun. Lucian slowly lifted his gaze while Selene stepped forward, her voice steady. 'It's over." Lucian wavered, his body faltering.
For the first time, the invincible Lucian looked... human and defeated.
Selene inhaled, steadying herself. The fall had begun and this time, Lucian wouldn't get back up.
Lucian's body swayed, his breath coming in sharp, ragged gasps. Blood seeped through his fingers, staining the floor beneath him. The invincible, untouchable Lucian was now nothing more than a man clinging to the last shreds of his power.
Selene didn't move, her gaze locked onto him. This wasn't just a battle—it was justice.
Eve's hands trembled slightly, but she kept the gun raised. Lucian had controlled her life for far too long.
Lucian chuckled weakly, his smirk laced with pain. 'You think this means you've won?" Selene exhaled slowly. 'I don't think so, Lucian. I know."
Lucian's knees buckled slightly, but he refused to fall, even now, he clung to whatever illusion of control he had left.
Selene took a step forward, and Lucian's lips curled. 'You're making a mistake." Selene's voice was steady. 'The only mistake I made was not stopping you sooner."
Lucian's eyes darkened. 'And what happens next, Selene? Do you want to kill me? Become exactly what I said you would?"
Selene inhaled sharply, her fists tightening. She wanted to end this—wanted to make him pay but she wasn't like him.
Eve's voice was quiet but firm. 'You don't deserve mercy." Lucian exhaled, shaking his head. 'Mercy is weakness." Selene's jaw clenched. No, it wasn't.
Lucian had spent his entire life believing in power, in fear, in control and now, that world was crumbling around him.
Footsteps echoed from the corridor, Selene turned slightly, reinforcements coming in fast but not on Lucian's side.
Lucian's smirk vanished. For the first time, there was fear in his eyes as the doors burst open and armed officers flooded the room, weapons drawn, voices commanding submission. Selene didn't flinch. This was the end. Lucian's gaze darted around the room. He had no more moves left.
A heavy silence fell as the officers surrounded him. Selene inhaled, stepping back. She had won.
Lucian's breath came hard. He opened his mouth—to threaten, to bargain, to fight—but no words came out.
The weight of everything settled onto him at once–Lucian had lost.
Selene exhaled and for the first time in years, she felt free.
