The Secret Prison
The SUV moved steadily along the desolate road, its tires cutting through the silence of the night.
Selene sat stiffly in the back seat, her wrists bound, her breathing controlled but shallow.
Lucian sat beside her, his presence suffocating, the dim glow from the dashboard cast sharp shadows over his features, making the arrogance in his expression seem even more pronounced.
She kept her face blank, refusing to give him the satisfaction of seeing the turmoil inside her.
Every mile they traveled took her further from Caleb, further from any chance of regaining control but she wasn't broken.
Lucian drummed his fingers against his knee, studying her with amusement. 'You're quiet," he mused. 'Regretting your decision already?" But Selene didn't answer.
His smirk deepened. 'You think I don't see it? That stubborn little fire burning in your eyes? You're waiting for an opportunity, aren't you?"
Selene forced herself to hold his gaze, her voice calm. 'You assume I need an opportunity." Lucian chuckled. 'And you assume you have choices left."
The driver, a stone-faced man built like a tank, kept his attention forward, steering the vehicle toward its unknown destination.
Two guards sat in the front passenger seat, their weapons within reach, their silence reinforcing the weight of Selene's captivity.
The tension in the vehicle was thick with an unspoken war waging in the air between her and Lucian.
Selene shifted slightly, testing the strength of her restraints.
The bindings were tight, cutting into her wrists with every movement so escaping wouldn't be easy.
Lucian noticed. 'Try anything, and I'll break you before you even reach the gates." Selene's jaw tightened. 'You won't kill me." But Lucian's smirk didn't waver. 'No, but there are worse things than death."
Her stomach twisted, but she didn't let the fear show, she wasn't naive enough to believe he was bluffing and she knew Lucian didn't make empty threats.
The SUV turned sharply, leaving the main road and veering onto a dirt path surrounded by thick trees, the further they went, the darker the night became and they were heading somewhere secluded.
Selene's pulse quickened, Lucian glanced out the window, his voice casual. 'You always wanted to know what was beyond the facility walls, didn't you? You're about to find out."
The trees thinned, revealing a structure in the distance, tall metal gates stood between them, and a sprawling estate, its silhouette imposing against the night sky, it wasn't just a house, it was a fortress.
Lucian leaned closer, his voice lowering. 'Welcome home."
The SUV rolled to a stop in front of the gates and the driver pressed a button on the console, and the iron barriers groaned as they swung open, beyond them was a long driveway stretching toward the mansion, flanked by towering walls and security cameras, this wasn't just a place of residence but a prison designed to keep people in as much as it kept threats out.
Selene forced herself to remain composed. 'Do you always go this far to keep people under your control?" Lucian smiled, unbothered by the accusation. 'Only the ones that matter."
The SUV continued forward, pulling into a private underground garage beneath the estate, the air grew colder as the concrete walls swallowed the vehicle whole and as the gates sealed shut behind them.
Lucian stepped out first, adjusting his cuffs before signaling for the guards to drag her out.
She was hauled from the back seat, her arms were still bound, and her feet were unsteady for a brief moment before she found her balance.
The underground space was vast, lined with sleek black vehicles and reinforced steel doors, with a single elevator standing at the far end. Its metallic doors reflect the dim lighting above, with no windows and no clear exits.
Lucian walked ahead, his stride relaxed. 'This way." then the guards shoved Selene forward, forcing her to follow.
The elevator doors slid open with a soft chime, revealing an interior lined with dark marble and gold accents. Everything about this place screamed wealth, power, and control.
Lucian stepped inside, nodding toward the guards then they pushed Selene in after him before stepping back and the doors shut, enclosing them in a space too small, too quiet.
Selene swallowed hard. 'Where are you taking me?"Lucian tapped a button on the panel, watching as the floors began to descend. 'To your new quarters."
Selene's skin prickled. 'I'm not staying here."Lucian exhaled in mock disappointment. 'Selene, you're acting like you still have a choice."
The elevator slowed and a second later, the doors opened to reveal a dimly lit hallway lined with sleek, soundproof walls.
Lucian stepped out first, motioning for her to follow and the moment Selene crossed the threshold, the doors slammed shut behind her.
Lucian led her down the hallway, stopping in front of a thick steel door where he pressed his palm against a biometric scanner that generated a soft click sound, and the door unlocked.
Lucian stepped aside, gesturing toward the entrance. 'After you." But Selene didn't move and Lucian sighed. 'Must we do this the hard way?" Then one of the guards stepped forward, grabbing Selene's arm and forcing her inside.
She stumbled slightly but caught herself before falling and the moment she turned, the door slammed shut with a chilling finality that she was locked in.
The room was luxurious but sterile with a large bed sitting against the far wall and the sheets untouched. A seating area with expensive furnishings filled the space, and a set of double doors led to an attached bathroom but there were no windows, no vents large enough to escape through and no weapons were within reach.
Selene clenched her jaw, this wasn't a room, it was a cage.
Lucian's voice echoed through a hidden speaker. 'Get comfortable, Selene, you won't be leaving anytime soon." Selene's fists curled. 'You think this will break me?" Lucian chuckled. 'I think you're already breaking, you just don't know it yet."
Selene's breath came slow and steady but she wouldn't give him the satisfaction of a reaction.
Lucian's voice softened, taunting. 'You can fight all you want, but I always win in the end."
Selene took a slow step forward, staring at the speaker embedded in the wall, her voice was cold, unwavering. 'We'll see about that." Then the intercom clicked off and the silence that followed was deafening.
Selene exhaled, scanning the room again, every inch of it was designed to contain and strip her of power but Lucian had underestimated one thing.
She wasn't looking for a way out, she was waiting for the moment to strike.
She turned toward the bed, and sat down slowly, allowing the exhaustion to settle in because her body needed rest and her mind needed clarity because when the opportunity came, she wouldn't hesitate.
Lucian thought he had won but Selene had never played by his rules.
