Seduction and Resistance
Selene stepped out of the elevator, her heels clicking sharply against the polished marble floor of her penthouse.
The city stretched beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows, the skyline glowing with golden lights against the night sky. The world outside was calm, but inside her mind, was a storm raged.
Damian's words from their phone call still echoed in her head. "Give my regards to Aurora." It wasn't just a taunt. It was a warning.
Selene exhaled, walking toward the sleek bar in the corner of the room. She poured herself a glass of whiskey, the amber liquid swirling as she brought it to her lips.
The burn was familiar, grounding but nothing could quiet the unease coiling in her stomach.
She was used to battles in the boardroom. Calculated attacks and cold negotiations with ruthless strategy. But this? This was personal.
A knock at the door pulled her from her thoughts her eyes narrowed. It was late, too late for unannounced visitors.
She placed her glass down carefully, walking toward the door, when she opened it, she froze. It was Aurora Sinclair standing in the doorway.
Her golden eyes held a quiet intensity, her lips slightly parted as if she had rushed here without thinking. She was still in the same dress from earlier, the deep red fabric hugging her curves, her hair slightly tousled from the wind.
For a moment, neither of them spoke. Then Selene's voice came out cold, controlled. "What are you doing here?"
Aurora didn't answer immediately. Instead, she stepped forward, slowly, as if testing how close she could get before Selene stopped her.
Selene didn't move.
Aurora tilted her head slightly, a smirk playing on her lips. "Are you going to let me in?"
Selene held her gaze, her pulse steady despite the sharp pull in her chest. "That depends. Are you going to tell me the truth this time?"
Aurora's smile faded, her expression shifting. She hesitated, then sighed. "I didn't come here to fight."
Selene leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed. "Then why are you here?"
Aurora took another step forward, their bodies almost touching. "Because I couldn't stop thinking about you."
Selene's breath hitched, but she masked it well. "That's convenient, considering you spent years pretending I didn't exist."
Aurora flinched, just barely, but she didn't back away. Instead, she reached up, brushing her fingers lightly against Selene's wrist.
The touch was soft, barely there, but it sent a wave of heat through Selene's body. Damn her.
Aurora always knew how to get under her skin, how to break through the walls she had spent years fortifying.
Selene didn't move, didn't pull away, but her voice was sharp. "If you think seduction is going to fix this, you're mistaken."
Aurora's lips curled into a slow, knowing smile. "Is that what you think I'm doing?"
Selene exhaled sharply, grabbing Aurora's wrist and pushing her back against the doorframe.
Aurora gasped softly, her eyes widening, but she didn't resist. If anything, her smile deepened.
Selene leaned in, close enough that their breaths mingled. "Tell me why you're really here."
Aurora swallowed, her throat moving, for the first time, her confidence wavered then she whispered, "Because I don't trust Damian."
Selene's eyes narrowed. "That makes two of us." Aurora licked her lips. "He's planning something, Selene. Something bigger than just your company and I don't know how to stop it."
Selene studied her, searching for any hint of deception but all she saw was fear and for a brief moment, her grip loosened. But just as she was about to pull away, Aurora closed the distance between them.
Their lips barely brushed, the contact featherlight but electric. Selene froze.
Aurora exhaled, her breath warm against Selene's skin. "You can't tell me you don't still feel it."
Selene's entire body was tense, her mind screaming at her to step back but she didn't. Her fingers tightened around Aurora's wrist again, her voice low. "This doesn't change anything."
Aurora smiled, her lips so close Selene could feel the warmth of them. "I know." Then, just as quickly as she had leaned in, she stepped back.
Selene forced herself to breathe, ignoring the heat pooling in her chest then Aurora's smile returned, but this time, it was softer. "You should be careful, Selene, Damian won't stop until he has what he wants."
Selene exhaled slowly. "Neither will I."
Aurora studied her for a moment, then nodded, without another word, she turned and walked away, disappearing down the hallway.
Selene watched her go, her hands curling into fists at her sides. The past was creeping back in and this time, she wasn't sure if she would survive it.
Hours later, Selene was still awake, standing by her window with another glass of whiskey in her hand. The city below looked peaceful, oblivious to the war brewing behind closed doors.
Her phone buzzed on the table and she turned, glancing at the screen. Unknown Number.
She hesitated for only a second before answering. "Who is this?" A distorted voice crackled through the speaker. "You're being watched." Selene's grip tightened around the phone. "Excuse me?"
The voice remained calm and detached. "Your company, Your people, Your life. You're being watched, Selene Laurent and if you're not careful... you won't see what's coming."
A cold chill ran down her spine. She forced her voice to remain steady. "Who are you?" immediately the line went dead.
Selene slowly lowered the phone, her heart pounding in her chest as she knew this wasn't just about business anymore.
