Echoes of the Past
The heavy metal doors slammed shut behind Lucian, sealing his fate. The sound echoed through the empty corridors, each reverberation marking the final nail in his empire's coffin.
Selene stood still, her chest rising and falling with controlled breaths. She had spent so many years fighting for this moment—but now that it was here, the victory felt hollow.
Eve shifted beside her, her body still tense. Her hands, though empty now, trembled slightly from the adrenaline still coursing through her veins.
The room felt unnaturally quiet. Lucian was gone. His reign was over and yet, the weight of everything remained.
Eve was the first to break the silence. 'It's done." Selene didn't respond immediately. She stared at the doors as if expecting them to open again—as if expecting Lucian to return and undo what had just happened but they remained closed.
Selene exhaled slowly. 'Yeah." Eve turned to her. 'Then why does it feel like we lost something?"
Selene didn't have an answer because the truth was, this wasn't just the end of Lucian—it was the end of everything they had known.
For so long, they had been trapped in his world. Every move, every breath, every decision had been in response to him.
Now, there was nothing left to fight against. Nothing left to run from.
Selene pressed her fingers to her temples, exhaustion weighing down on her. 'We should go." Eve hesitated, then nodded. 'Yeah."
They turned away from the door, walking in silence with every step, Selene expected something to stop them. A last obstacle. A final battle. One more desperate attempt from Lucian to reclaim control but nothing came.
The halls stretched out before them, empty and unfamiliar. For the first time in years, they were walking into a world that wasn't dictated by Lucian's rules.
Selene clenched her fists. She had won but now, she had to figure out how to live without the war.
As they reached the exit, Eve finally spoke again. Her voice was quiet, uncertain. 'What happens now?" Selene exhaled, stepping into the cold night air.
She didn't know but for the first time, the future was hers to decide.
