The Brink Of Chaos
The building groaned around them, the walls shaking violently with each tremor.
Selene's heart raced as she struggled to keep her footing and her mind still reeling from the explosion.
The ceiling above them cracked and splintered, sending chunks of debris crashing to the floor.
The sound of crumbling stone and glass reverberated through the room, drowning out everything else.
Axel's hand was firm on her arm, pulling her forward, but she could feel the weight of his body dragging him down.
The injuries from earlier were taking their toll on him making his breath shallow and his steps faltered, but he kept moving.
They had no choice and couldn't stop.
'This way!" Selene shouted, her voice rising above the chaos. She had no idea where they were going, only that they had to get out, and fast.
She tugged Axel through the smoke-filled hallway, the air thick with dust.
Every step she took was a struggle, the weight of the building's collapse bearing down on her.
The walls were buckling, and the ground was uneven making it hard to stay on course.
The building was coming down around them, but they couldn't afford to stop.
Ahead, Selene saw a door, a narrow exit at the far end of the hallway.
It looked like their only chance, their only way out of the madness but even as she raced toward it, a loud crash sounded from behind them, and she spun around, her heart leaping into her throat.
The men in black—those who had been hunting them emerged from the smoke, their weapons raised and ready.
Selene's pulse quickened. There was no time to think or plan anything at that point. They were trapped and she had no idea how long the building would hold up.
'Move!" Axel shouted, his voice hoarse.
He staggered forward, his hand gripping Selene's tightly, and was barely able to keep himself upright, but he wasn't about to let her go.
Selene pushed him forward, her body tense with every instinct telling her to run.
The men in black were closing in fast, their footsteps loud against the crumbling ground, and every corner was becoming more dangerous.
She could feel the heat of the flames creeping closer, the air growing heavier with every breath.
They reached the door, but it wouldn't budge. Selene slammed her shoulder into it, the impact making her teeth rattle, but the door remained firmly closed. Her heart raced as she realized they had no way out.
'Open it!" she screamed, desperation seeping into her voice. 'We have to get out of here!"
Axel looked at her, his face twisted in pain. 'I can't." His voice cracked, but there was nothing else he could do.
They were stuck, trapped inside a building that was falling apart around them, the room was thick with smoke and the heat from the flames was growing unbearable.
The men in black were closing in and Selene could feel the fear rising in her chest.
She glanced around frantically, searching for any way out, but there was nothing.
The hallway behind them was blocked by debris, and the building was collapsing too fast and they had no choice but to fight their way through.
'Get ready," she said, turning to Axel. 'We'll make a run for it." But before they could move, a loud crack echoed through the room.
The ceiling above them was giving way and a chunk of debris broke free, falling straight toward them.
Selene pushed Axel aside, throwing herself into the way, but the force of the impact sent her sprawling to the floor.
The debris crashed down beside her, the shockwave of the fall knocking her head against the ground, the room spun around her and for a moment, everything went black.
When she opened her eyes again, the world was a blur and the smoke was thicker now, the flames licking at the walls, but Selene's vision was still fuzzy and she could hear Axel's voice, faint and distant, calling her name. 'Selene!"
She blinked rapidly, trying to focus, but her body felt heavy.
Her head throbbed with pain, and the world seemed to tilt around her but then she pushed herself up, her hands shaking as she tried to stand.
'Selene!"Axel's voice was clearer now.
She could see him through the haze of smoke, his figure blurry but moving toward her.
He reached out, grabbing her arm and helping her to her feet, his face was pale, sweat dripping down his forehead, but he was still standing.
'We have to go, Selene." Axel's voice was rough, but there was determination in it. He wasn't ready to give up, not now.
But as they tried to move again, a loud crash echoed from behind them.
They turned, and Selene's heart dropped into her stomach as she saw what had just broken through the wall: another figure, standing tall and menacing in the doorway.
This wasn't just one of the men in black. No. This was something different and bigger.
The figure in the doorway was massive, towering over them with a presence that made the air feel even heavier.
It moved toward them slowly, its eyes glowing in the darkness, its form dark and twisted.
'You're not getting away." The voice was deep, gravelly, and filled with malice. It wasn't just a threat but a promise.
Selene's breath caught in her throat. She had seen many things in her life, but nothing like this.
This was something different and beyond anything she could understand and now, it was coming for them.
Axel reached for his gun, but Selene grabbed his wrist, stopping him. 'No." Her voice was tight with fear. 'We can't fight him."
The figure took another step forward, its massive form filling the doorway.
The ground beneath them trembled, and Selene could feel the vibrations in her bones.
'I said, you're not getting away." The figure's voice was sharper now, more insistent. It was closing in on them, and there was nothing they could do to stop it.
'Run," Selene whispered to Axel, her voice barely audible. 'We can't stay here."
But Axel didn't move, he was frozen, his eyes wide with disbelief, he didn't understand anything yet.
The figure's footsteps were slow and deliberate, each step shaking the floor, it was getting closer, and there was nothing they could do to escape.
The room felt smaller now, the walls closing in with every breath, and the flames from the explosion were growing higher, the heat becoming unbearable.
And then, as the figure moved closer, the world exploded once more. A blinding flash of light filled the room, followed by a deafening roar.
Selene's body was thrown backward, her vision going dark once again but she could hear Axel's voice, distant and fading and the world around her was spinning too fast for her to hold on.
