The Final Stand
Selene's vision swam, but she forced herself to stay conscious. Pain surged through her body, spreading like wildfire, but she couldn't afford to collapse.
Lucian loomed above her, his shadow stretching across the cold floor. His expression was unreadable, his patience thinning.
'You always take things too far, Selene." His voice was steady, almost amused.
Selene exhaled sharply, her palms pressing against the cold ground as she pushed herself up. Every muscle in her body screamed in protest, but she ignored it.
Lucian sighed. 'Stay down." Selene chuckled softly. 'That's not happening."
Lucian tilted his head. 'You think you still have a chance?"Selene met his gaze, her eyes burning with defiance. 'I know I do."
Lucian's smirk faltered, just slightly. He wasn't used to defiance lasting this long.
Selene clenched her fists. She wasn't just fighting for herself—she was fighting for Eve. For everyone who had ever been trapped under Lucian's control.
Eve had managed to push herself up as well, her breath heavy but her resolve unshaken. Their eyes met, and in that moment, the unspoken decision was made.
Lucian exhaled. 'Enough games." He nodded to his men. Selene's muscles tensed. The guards closed in.
She moved forward, her body moved with precision, despite the pain. She dodged the first strike, twisting to disarm the nearest guard.
Eve moved too, using her momentum to knock one of them off balance.
Selene knew this was a test. He wanted to see how far she would go but she had to prove him wrong.
A guard swung at her, but she ducked, sweeping his legs out from under him. He hit the ground with a grunt, and she moved before he could recover.
Eve fought beside her, her movements precise. They weren't just surviving anymore—they were winning.
Lucian sighed, his amusement fading. 'I'm tired of this." Selene barely had time to react before he moved with a sharp impact that sent her staggering. Lucian had stepped forward, his blow fast and brutal.
Selene gasped, pain spreading through her ribs. Lucian's voice was calm. 'You never know when to stop."
Selene clenched her jaw, her breathing heavy. Lucian exhaled, shaking his head. 'This could have ended differently," Selene smirked, despite the pain. 'It still will."
Lucian arched his brow. 'Oh?" Selene inhaled deeply. 'Because I'm not done." She pushed forward, using every ounce of strength left. Lucian's eyes widened slightly. Selene struck and this time, she wasn't holding back.
The moment Selene struck, everything shifted. Lucian had anticipated resistance, but not like this. Not the fury in her eyes, the unwavering resolve in her movements. Her fist connected with his ribs, forcing him back.
Lucian gasped, regaining his balance. His usual composure faltered, just slightly but Selene didn't wait. She spun, striking the nearest guard, using his momentary shock against him.
Eve followed her lead and for the first time, Lucian's men weren't winning.
Selene had fought before but never like this. Every move was calculated. Every strike carried the weight of years of restraint, of patience, of suffering.
Lucian clenched his jaw, stepping back, this wasn't supposed to happen.
Selene exhaled. 'You're losing, Lucian." Lucian's eyes darkened. The room was no longer his.
Eve wrenched a weapon from one of the fallen guards, her breath heavy but her hands steady.
Lucian exhaled, forcing himself to remain calm but it was too late, Selene saw the flicker of doubt in his expression and she pressed forward.
Lucian had always been the one in control. Always pulling the strings, manipulating, winning but now, he was slipping and Selene wouldn't let him recover.
Lucian dodged, barely, their bodies collided, the impact sending them both to the ground. Lucian grunted, his hand reaching for something beneath his coat.
Selene reacted instantly as she grabbed his wrist, twisting. Pain flashed across his face, his grip weakening and the weapon clattered to the floor.
Selene didn't hesitate, she pinned him down, breathless but victorious, Lucian stilled, for the first time, he had no escape.
Selene exhaled, her voice steady. 'It's over." Lucian's chest rose and fell rapidly but he didn't speak because he knew she was right.
