The Final Choice
Selene's heart hammered in her chest, each beat vibrating through her body like the rumble of distant thunder.
The darkness around them was absolutely oppressive but she could feel the heat of the flames somewhere behind her.
The surrounding was filled with smoke, and every breath she took tasted bitter, heavy with the scent of burning wood and metal.
The building was falling apart crumbling under the weight of its own destruction and they were caught in the middle of it.
Axel was still by her side, his body weakened from the blast, but his grip on her arm remained firm.
Every step they took seemed harder than the last, and Selene knew they were running out of time.
They had to find an exit, but the building seemed to be collapsing faster than they could move.
'We need to move faster." Selene's voice broke through the silence, her voice was urgent and filled with fear.
She could feel the heat getting closer and the walls creaking as if they were about to give way.
Axel nodded, but he was struggling l with his pale face and sweat dripping down his forehead.
Every step he took was a struggle and his breathing was labored.
Selene could see the pain in his eyes, but he wasn't complaining neither was he going to stop, not until they were out of here.
She reached out, her hand brushing his arm, trying to steady him as they moved. 'Come on, Axel, we can do this, we're almost there, we just have to—"
Then a sudden crash interrupted her, and the ground beneath their feet shook.
Selene's heart skipped a beat as she turned to see a large piece of the ceiling fall and block their path.
The dust and debris filled the air, making it harder to see and harder to breathe.
She stumbled back, pulling Axel away from the debris while her eyes were scanning the room for another way out.
The walls seemed to be closing in and the air was growing hotter with every passing second.
She could feel the weight of all the danger around her, pressing in on her chest.
'We have to go!" Axel shouted, his voice urgent, though strained, then he grabbed her by the arm, pulling her toward the back of the room where a narrow hallway led to another exit.
But before they could make it, the sound of footsteps echoed through the crumbling building.
Something or someone was following them and was getting closer.
Selene's breath caught in her throat as the sound grew louder and more distinct.
Her instincts screamed at her to run, but there was no way she could run with Axel by her side.
The hallway ahead was too narrow, and the walls were already starting to crack. There was no safe place to hide.
'Who's there?" she called out, her voice hoarse with fear.
A figure stepped into view, just at the end of the hallway.
It was a man, tall and imposing, but his face was hidden in shadow. 'What do you want?" Selene's voice was filled with a mix of anger and fear. She was done running.
She was done being hunted.
The man didn't answer, but he stepped forward, his movements slow and deliberate.
Each step he takes seems to shake the ground beneath them.
Selene's heart raced. She knew they couldn't fight him not like this.
But as the figure moved closer, another familiar voice cut through the air.
'Get away from them."
Selene turned to see another figure entering the room from the opposite side.
She recognized him immediately as 'Lucian."
His eyes were cold, and calculating, as always, but there was something different in his expression now.
He was looking at the man in the hallway with his posture tense.
The two men stood facing each other with an unspoken tension hanging in the air between them.
'What's going on?" Selene demanded, her voice shaking with frustration. 'Who are you people and what do you want from us?"
Lucian didn't respond right away. Instead, he stepped closer, his eyes never leaving the man in the hallway.
'You're in the middle of something much bigger than you realize, Selene."
The man in the hallway didn't move, but Selene could feel the power radiating off of him.
'You don't get it, Lucian," the man said finally, his voice cold and deep. 'This ends now."
But before either of them could react, a loud explosion erupted somewhere behind them, sending shockwaves through the building.
The walls shook violently, and the room around them seemed to collapse in on itself.
The ceiling above them cracked and splintered, and debris rained down from above.
Selene barely managed to grab Axel before they were both thrown to the ground and the force of the explosion knocked them off balance.
The dust was thick in the air but that wasn't going to stop them.
'Axel!" she shouted, grabbing his arm as she tried to pull him up.
The building was falling apart faster than they could react, and she knew they were running out of time.
But just as they managed to stand, a new explosion sounded in the distance.
The sound of it reverberated through the entire building, shaking the ground beneath them once more.
Selene's heart raced as she turned to see more figures coming into view.
'We have to go, Selene!" Axel shouted, his voice filled with panic.
Selene glanced toward the doorway–the only way out but before she could take a step, the figure from the hallway moved again.
His eyes were locked on her, his expression unreadable.
He didn't say a word, but the look in his eyes told her everything she needed to know.
'Axel, listen to me," she said, her voice trembling, but determined. 'I'm going to get us out of here, I promise."
Without another word, she shoved Axel forward, her heart pounding in her chest as she ran toward the exit.
She didn't know what would happen next nor did she know if they would survive but she couldn't stop now.
And just as they reached the door, a loud bang sounded behind them, followed by a shout.
Selene turned around, but it was too late.
