Won't Stop Until Am Done
The air in the corridor thickened and the weight of inevitability pressed down on Selene as she gripped her weapon tighter.
Lucian's guards moved with practiced precision, blocking every possible escape route, their formation leaving no room for error.
Their expressions were unreadable, professional, men trained for moments exactly like this but Selene had been in worse situations before, and she had never surrendered and this wouldn't be the moment she started.
Lucian stood at the center of it all, his presence commanding without effort and his confidence wasn't arrogance but certainty, like he believed that no matter what happened next, he would still be the one in control.
He had orchestrated every move up until now, predicting each attempt Selene and Eve had made to escape, cutting off every path before they could take it.
Selene glanced at Eve, who was tense beside her, her breathing controlled but her stance rigid. They had no more time to plan, no more time to think and the only choice left was action.
Lucian sighed, taking a step forward with the faintest hint of amusement flickering in his gaze. 'You should have known this would be the outcome," he said, his voice smooth, unreadable. 'You run, I catch you, it's the same game every time."
Selene's fingers flexed around her weapon, her mind racing through every possible move. They were outnumbered, and cornered, but she wouldn't let him dictate how this ended.
Lucian's gaze flickered toward Eve, then back to Selene. 'Put the gun down," he instructed, his voice carrying no threat, only expectation. 'It's over." Selene exhaled through her nose. 'Not yet." Lucian's lips curved slightly, his head tilting. 'You can't win this." Selene's grip tightened. 'I don't need to win, I just need you to lose."
Lucian chuckled softly, shaking his head. 'You're always so dramatic." He gave a small nod and the guards moved instantly but Selene reacted before she could think.
She raised her weapon, firing at the closest threat, ducking as bullets whizzed past her head and the corridor erupted into chaos, gunfire echoing off the walls, the scent of metal and gunpowder thick in the air.
Eve moved beside her, her agility sharp as she dodged a strike, twisting to land a well-aimed blow to a guard's side. Selene turned, using her momentum to slam the butt of her gun into another's throat, knocking him off balance but Lucian remained still, watching and waiting.
Selene didn't waste time trying to read his expression. She focused on the fight, every movement calculated, every hit meant to create space between them and the men closing in but there were too many and their advantage in numbers was undeniable.
A guard lunged toward her, his fist swinging hard but Selene ducked, spinning to grab his wrist, twisting it sharply until she heard the crack of bone giving way.
He let out a strangled cry, but she was already moving, kicking his legs out from under him before turning toward Eve.
Eve was holding her own, but the damage she had taken earlier was slowing her down. A guard swung at her side, and she barely managed to block it, her body reacting slower than before.
Selene moved instinctively, lunging forward, her elbow driving into the man's ribs. He stumbled back, giving Eve just enough time to regain her footing but it wasn't enough.
Another guard grabbed Selene's arm, yanking her back with force. She struggled, twisting, but the grip was too strong then pain exploded through her skull.
Something hard struck the side of her head, sending her vision spinning. The world blurred, tilting as she hit the ground, her breath leaving her in a sharp gasp.
Eve shouted something, but the words were lost in the ringing in Selene's ears, and a boot pressed against her chest, pinning her down.
Lucian loomed above her, his expression unreadable, his voice quiet. 'It's over, Selene." Selene's breath was shallow, her limbs heavy but she could still move, still fight but not like this and not against this many.
Eve was still struggling, but another guard grabbed her, forcing her arms behind her back. She kicked, and resisted, but the exhaustion was weighing her down.
Lucian exhaled, his gaze unwavering. 'You should have accepted my offer when you had the chance." Selene clenched her jaw, forcing her mind to focus. She had lost this battle but the war wasn't over yet.
Lucian gestured toward the guards. 'Take them back." The grip on her arms tightened as she was yanked upward and Selene couldn't resist.
Lucian's eyes flickered with something unreadable as he watched her and one thing was for sure, he knew she wasn't broken.
Lucian's smirk was faint. 'You never learn." Selene's voice was quiet, steady. 'Neither do you." Lucian studied her for a moment before turning away. 'Let's see how long you last this time."
Selene exhaled slowly as they were dragged forward, their freedom slipping away once more but it wasn't over.
