130. The Aftermath Of The Tragedy
The following day.
Grandpa Eliezer arrived at the pack's funeral home where Viviana's body was being held for viewing by pack members since she was the former Luna of the pack. Everyone was given a chance to see her one last time.
He sat beside his grandson. "Son, what happened? The news took me by surprise. How come Viviana went to the beach house and rode a speedboat, then drowned afterward? It does not make sense at all. She knows how to swim, right?" he asked in bewilderment.
Alpha Callum took a deep breath. "The guard told me that Viviana had arrived at the beach unannounced and got into the speedboat, but before that... they noticed that she looked anxious and tense. In short, she looks problematic. She didn't look alright on the day she met her untimely death."
"What could be the problem? Why did she drive the speedboat at high speed? What made her do it?" Grandpa Eliezer asked.
"The maid told me that Clarice arrived at the house while we were at the lake having a picnic. Clarice and Viviana must have had an argument. I think my wife wanted to kick Viviana out of the house. That is probably the reason why Viviana went to the beach house and the speedboat accident happened," Alpha Callum explained.
Grandpa Eliezer finally saw the bigger picture. "I see, that must be the reason why."
Beta Amir arrived at the funeral house and rushed to the bench where his boss was seated, far from the other pack members. "Alpha, I have fresh news for you," he whispered.
"Tell me what it is?" Alpha Callum asked.
"I received news that Luna Aurelia, Alpha Bruce's wife, died yesterday. The cause was drowning in the pool. And our men told us that an ambulance arrived outside Kaspar's place and saw his body taken out of the building. Upon further investigation, they learned that Kaspar had drowned in the bathtub submerged in water when paramedics found him. His body was delivered to the Bloodhounds Pack to be buried along with Luna Aurelia in the same cemetery tomorrow afternoon," Beta Amir elaborated further.
Alpha Callum and Grandpa Eliezer looked at each other, stunned by the news.
Grandpa Eliezer fell into deep thoughts, analyzing each death in his mind. He said, "Three deaths are all associated with water. It's so easy to connect the dots together. Right, son?"
Alpha Callum sighed heavily. "I understand what you mean, Pops," he replied grimly.
"She finally delivers a quick death to her enemies. I have no doubt who did it," Grandpa Eliezer commented.
"I don't care about Kaspar and Luna Aurelia. After what they have done to my wife, they deserve it. But what I don't understand is why she killed Viviana? She had nothing to do with Clarice's disappearance! She just can't kill a person out of jealousy. It is not acceptable to me. She has gotten so blinded by her power that she has now become a killing machine. Killing anyone without mercy!" Alpha Callum snarled indignantly, gritting his teeth in anger.
Grandpa Eliezer sighed. "Son, don't be so quick to judge her. She wouldn't murder someone just because of jealousy. You know her better than anyone else. Maybe Viviana did something terrible to Clarice, we really don't know for sure," he said, trying to give Clarice the benefit of the doubt.
"I promised my ex-wife's father on his deathbed that I would protect his daughter, but I failed to prevent her death. I feel guilty about what happened to her. I failed to protect my daughter's mother. How can I answer my daughter's question when she grows up asking how her mother died?" Alpha Callum said with a sense of guilt.
"Son, please don't be so quick to judge Clarice. She must have her own reason. Talk to her in a calm manner when she visits you again, so you can get to the bottom of Viviana's sudden death. Don't condemn Clarice right away without knowing the reason why she did it," Grandpa Eliezer said calmly, trying to placate his grandson's growing dislike for his wife.
Alpha Callum breathed deeply, calming himself. "You are right, Pops. I must listen to my wife first, before I draw my own conclusion."
Grandpa Eliezer felt relieved, pleased with his reply. "That's right, son. Listen and investigate first before you judge her. It's the most sensible thing to do."
"You are right, Pops. But when will she show herself to me? I want to get her answer as fast as possible because Viviana's death is messing up my head terribly. I want to know the truth now!" He grumbled in annoyance.
Grandpa Eliezer shakes his head in dismay. "That's the problem, son. We couldn't contact Clarice right away because you had already given her cold treatment when she joined us at the lake. If you treated her nicely, we would be able to contact her and get to the bottom of Viviana's death. Now how can we contact her when we don't even know the location of the sacred mountain?"
"You are right, Pops. Everything went wrong from the very start. I overreacted and lashed out at her. I realize my mistake now, but it's too late for that. I think she no longer wants to see me anymore," Alpha Callum said, sighing dejectedly.
Grandpa Eliezer patted his grandson's shoulder, comforting him. "Let's just hope your wife comes back soon, so you can have a heart-to-heart talk with her and settle your differences with her for your son's sake."
Silence fell upon the men for a few minutes.
Beta Amir cleared his throat. "What do you want me to do next, Alpha?" he asked.
"Go to Viviana's room and check her things and her laptop. Maybe we can find some clues about her activities leading to her death," Alpha Callum ordered.
"Okay. I still had her shoulder bag and phone with me. She left those things inside her car when she went to the sea. Good thing she didn't use a password on her phone," Beta Amir said in relief.
"How are my son and daughter?" Alpha Callum asked.
"Alpha, don't worry about them, the nannies are taking good care of them in the house," Beta Amir replied. "I told them to call us right away if something came up. Besides, the guards are on high alert, guarding the mansion inside and out," he added.
"Good." Alpha Callum was pleased to hear that the kids were safe and well taken care of in the house.
"After I'm done here, I will stay in the house to help take care of the kids for your peace of mind, son," Grandpa Eliezer offered.
"Thank you, Pops. Your support means so much to me during these difficult times," Alpha Callum replied in a dispirited tone.
Grandpa Eliezer stood up, approached Viviana's coffin and stared at her face. "Dear, I'm deeply saddened by your sudden passing. But what have you done to arouse Clarice's wrath? You told me before that you would get your ex-husband back, no matter what the cost. But I have already warned you not to do anything stupid. Look at what has happened to you now. You have brought harm to yourself. I'm sorry for your sudden death, dear. Rest assured, I will look after your daughter as well. Rest in peace," he said solemnly.
After he bid farewell to Viviana, Grandpa Eliezer and Beta Amir left the funeral home to return to the mansion to start their investigation into Viviana's things.
The men got into a vehicle. Beta Amir started the engine and drove the car on a busy highway.
"Grandpa, do you think Luna Clarice killed Viviana, Kaspar and Aurelia? Or was it just a coincidence?" Beta Amir asked curiously.
"I can't say with finality that Clarice is the culprit, but the pattern of killing only points to one person. We have to ask Clarice first if she is indeed the killer. As of this moment, we don't have solid evidence that she did it. We can only speculate," Grandpa Eliezer replied.
"But what if Luna Clarice does not admit she is the killer? What's going to happen? Will Alpha Callum pursue the truth about Viviana's sudden death?" Beta Amir asked.
"I don't know about that yet. We need to ask Clarice for clarification first that she has nothing to do with the death of these three people," Grandpa Eliezer replied. "By the way, do they have suspects already?"
Beta Amir shakes his head. "No suspects at all. All I know is that the three accidents were considered accidental drownings and no suspects were investigated. Therefore, whoever killed the three victims would get away with her or his crimes. The CCTV camera in Luna Aurelia's pool didn't capture anyone entering the vacation house. She was alone during her time drowning. As for Viviana, many witnesses saw that she was enjoying driving the speedboat until the accident happened. As for Kaspar, he drowned in the bathtub in his room and was alone in his house at the time of his death. Unfortunately he has no CCTV cameras in his house," he explained.
"Their death is a big mystery we need to solve. I'm pretty sure we will know the truth soon," Grandpa Eliezer said confidently.
After a short journey, they finally arrived at Alpha Callum's mansion.
Grandpa Eliezer went to find the children, while Beta Amir entered Viviana's room to start his investigation.
