95. Mounting Curiosity
Clarice tried her hardest to get back to the dream she shared with her husband a few minutes ago.
Suddenly, her body relaxed, and she drifted into a deep slumber. She found herself in the master bedroom, gazing at her husband's face lovingly.
Her dream resumed where it left off. This time she tries to go with the flow.
She was staring at her husband's face, waiting for him to open his eyes. The moment he opened his eyes, she smiled brightly.
Alpha Callum gazed at his wife's pretty face. "How long have you been awake?" he asked gently.
"A few minutes ago," Clarice replied with a smile. "What do you want for breakfast? I want to cook for you today," she said.
"The usual... pancakes, bacon, eggs, coffee. What else?" he said, planting a kiss on her lips. "I'll need more sleep. Come back later if you are done cooking, my love," he said, kissing her lips and closing his eyes again.
"Okay, I'll head to the kitchen now and prepare our breakfast," Clarice said happily. She left the bed and exited the room. She proceeded downstairs, humming a song in good spirits.
She headed straight for the kitchen, thinking about what she would cook first, only to see Viviana busy cooking in front of the electric stove.
"What are you doing here?" Clarice asked in a loud voice.
Viviana smiled. "What do you think? Can't you see? I'm cooking food for my husband and for your son," she answered, amused.
"Who is your husband?" Clarice asked, her blood rising.
"Who do you think?" Viviana sneered. "My husband is the husband you stole from me! You shouldn't have returned Clarice. You are no longer needed here. Go back to where you belong!"
Clarice gasped in anger. "Excuse me! I'm still my husband's wife! You should leave! You are not needed here! This is my house!" She gritted her teeth furiously.
"Excuse me. I'm the first wife, and you came along and stole my husband. You should return him to me! Shameless mistress!" Viviana growled indignantly. Her eyes turned red in anger, staring at her murderously.
Clarice stepped back when she sensed danger coming.
Viviana quickly transformed into her menacing black wolf form and attacked Clarice mercilessly, biting her body parts. Clarice's blood splattered the floor and walls. When the wolf successfully cut Clarice's neck with her sharp teeth, Clarice was already on the verge of death.
"Demetria, please save me!" Clarice begged in despair, fighting hard to stay alive.
Suddenly, Demetria appeared in the kitchen and grabbed the wolf's neck effortlessly, slamming it into the wall repeatedly. In one swift motion, Demetria decapitated the wolf's head with her bare hands. At that very moment, Clarice was hanging on for dear life when the severed head of Viviana's wolf landed near her face.
For Clarice, it was satisfying to see. She smiled happily. Now she will die in peace. Vengeance has been served!
She looked at Demetria and mouthed thank you, then closed her eyes, welcoming death with open arms.
Demetria picked up Clarice's lifeless body and disappeared from the kitchen.
The scene was so gruesome, Clarice stirred in her sleep and woke up from her nightmare, gasping for breath. When she was fully awake she realized she was just dreaming and, to her dismay, her husband's body was no longer lying beside her on the bed.
"Oh no! Where is he?" she asked aloud.
She left the room and ran to the living room, shouting, "Demetria! Where are you? Where is my husband?"
Demetria suddenly appeared a few meters away from Clarice. "Why are you so loud, dear? What's wrong?"
"Where is my husband?" Clarice asked, panicking.
"Two hours have passed. I have already returned your husband to his mansion. Don't worry, he's now safe at home with your son," Demetria assured her.
"But I haven't spent enough time with him yet!" Clarice protested.
Demetria shrugged. "Your time is up, dear. Remember, we agreed on two hours only. But of course, if you want them relocated here permanently, I can bring them back here tomorrow. Not now, because I want to rest in my room."
Clarice sighed heavily. "You should have given me two more hours!" she grumbled.
Demetria ignored Clarice's annoying rumblings and walked towards the staircase. "Let's continue talking tomorrow. Go back to your room and continue sleeping. See you tomorrow, dear. Goodnight."
Clarice watched Demetria climb the stairs and disappear from her sight. She bit her lip in frustration. She failed to escape tonight! Dang! Demetria is always one step ahead of her.
So damn annoying!
She returned to her room and stared at the ceiling, having a hard time sleeping again after remembering her gruesome death at the hands of Viviana.
That was a terrifying dream. She could feel the pain as Viviana's wolf devoured every inch of her body, drawing blood from her skin, severing her jugular veins, leading to her fatal death. The satisfying part was when Demetria appeared and avenged her, decapitating Viviana's head effortlessly.
Dang! The scene felt so terrifyingly real!
She shut her eyes, trying to block the ghastly sense from repeatedly replaying in her mind, torturing her. That particular scene highlighted how easy it is for anyone to hurt her because she can't defend herself, she is too weak, she has no power that she can use to fight and stop bad people from harming her.
In that latter scene, when she was dying and begging Demetria to save her, she realized that her enemy could be easily defeated if she was more powerful than the enemy. An entity with great power rules the world, but for weak beings like her, she can easily be annihilated.
She remembers in the past that she was desperate to gain power in any shape and form as long as she could defend herself from people with bad intentions. Now Demetria wants to offer her limitless power, but there is a catch: she must become a vampire first before she becomes powerful.
Now the only remaining question is, would she be willing to become a blood sucker just to gain power? She never wanted to obtain power in the first place. She was satisfied with her life back then with her ex-husband, Alpha Bruce, but when people wanted to kill her for their personal gain, she realized she couldn't remain complacent forever. Danger will always approach her as long as her enemy knows she is still alive.
She must obtain power and take control of her life!
She refuses to be imprisoned in this forsaken place forever!
If there is a way to get out of her current situation, she must take it!
She can easily gain power now, no question about that, because Demetria will help her. The only downside is she will become a vampire first, which doesn't sit well with her principles. She hates the idea of sucking anyone's blood, which is gross! Ewww!
She sighed heavily. There is no easy way to gain back her freedom. She must give up something in order to obtain great power.
There is no other way but to become a new person.
She is desperate to leave this place.
Right now, a big part of her is willing to be converted into a vampire as long as she can be reunited with her beloved family.
She is willing to do anything!
That idea kept troubling her mind until sleepiness took over her consciousness. She finally drifted into a deep slumber.
The next time she opened her eyes, it was already 9:00 in the morning. A new day has already begun. Dang, she woke up late.
No worries, she can rest in her bed the whole day and no one will care. She was too lazy to get up. She is not in the mood to do anything today, not even cleaning the house, not even cooking food to feed herself. Her mood is down.
But at 10:00, her stomach started growling. She's starving, and she knows she can no longer delay the inevitable. She needs to eat!
She reluctantly left the bed and entered the bathroom. Afterward, she went to the kitchen to fix herself a sandwich and hot coffee.
She was eating her first meal of the day at the kitchen table when Demetria joined her.
"Good morning, dear. How was your sleep last night?" Demetria asked casually, lowering herself into the chair.
"I slept late and woke up late," Clarice replied, sipping her coffee, eyeing the vampire closely.
"Oh, I see. I think you feel refreshed now," Demetria commented.
"I am," Clarice replied.
"You haven't made up your mind yet?" Demetria asked.
Clarice's brows were knitted in confusion. "About what?"
"Are you willing to become a vampire like me in order to obtain power? I guarantee you, no one can hurt you anymore. You will become a powerful woman above anyone living in this world. Just think about the freedom you can gain if you agree to become a vampire like me," Demetria said convincingly.
"Why are you doing this? I mean, why are you offering me this opportunity? Of all people, why me?" Clarice asked in astonishment.
"Because I see the goodness of your heart. You are suitable to replace me as the master of this house. Only by having someone good enough to replace me and carry on the responsibility can I finally leave this place and rejoin my family," Demetria said, her eyes shimmering with deep longing.
