126. Give Me A Chance!
"I have to go now, dear husband, because our conversation is not getting anywhere. We are just hurting each other. Remember, I always love you," she said solemnly, tears glistening in her eyes. She walked toward her son, hugging him tightly. "I love you son. Mommy will return one day to see you again. Take care of your father and yourself for me. Okay?"
"I will, Mom. But why do you have to go away again? You said you would never leave me again. Why are you leaving me and Dad again?" Caden asked, confused.
"I have to go away for a while. Your father refused to accept me because according to him I'm a changed person. It's hard to explain everything to you, son. One day, when you grow older you will understand everything. Be good, okay?" Clarice said between sobs.
"Okay. I will wait for your return, Mom. Please come back soon. I miss you so much," Caden said tearfully, holding onto his mother's hand tightly, not willing to let go.
Grandpa Eliezer said, "Let your mom go, son. She will return soon."
Caden finally released his mother's hands.
Clarice looks at Grandpa Eliezer. "Grandpa, please talk to my husband. I know he will listen to you. Tell him that I cannot longer change my destiny. This is me now. I can't change what happened. I would die if things didn't turn out this way. I'm just doing this for survival. I have no choice, it's the only way I know how to survive and return home safely," she explained, begging for the old man's help.
Grandpa Eliezer breathed deeply. "I understand your situation, child. You have to do what you have to do to survive. You finally got what you wished for. You are now powerful beyond anything I can imagine but as the saying goes... great power comes with great responsibility."
"Yeah, such a huge responsibility," she murmured sadly.
"You have to pay a huge price for obtaining such incredible power. It must be difficult for you to expect a happy reunion with your family but end up arguing with your husband who refuses to accept your new identity. But don't give up on your husband too soon. He is confused right now. Don't worry, I'll talk to him. Just give him enough time to process things over. He will come round," he assured her.
"Thank you so much for making me feel better, Grandpa. I will leave everything in your hands," Clarice said, her eyes swollen from too much crying.
"If you need more chicken for your blood cravings, don't hesitate to come to my farm. I have lots of chicken there waiting for you," Grandpa Eliezer said compassionately.
Clarice cried harder. The emotional toll was too much for her to handle. She broke down in front of everyone. Marina and Lorey rushed to her side and hugged her, providing warm support, and comforting her weary soul.
"Shh, stop crying, cousin. Everything will be alright in the end. Your husband is a good person. Just give him enough time," Marina said, rubbing her cousin's back gently, absorbing her pain.
"Luna Clarice, stay strong. You have come this far and survived many trials. You are back stronger than ever. Don't ever give up! The love of a family is worth fighting for," Lorey said, sobbing hard, feeling sorry for her mistress's never-ending tribulation.
"Thank you, girls. I feel much better now. I have to go. I shall return when things are calmer between me and my husband. See you again soon," Clarice said.
Clarice hugged her son one last time and disappeared from their midst in the blink of an eye.
Grandpa Eliezer sighed heavily. "What a shame. A happy reunion was destroyed by misunderstanding. The picnic was ruined," he muttered to himself, looking at his grandson in dismay.
Alpha Callum met the old man's gaze. "Am I the one to blame now?" he asked. "What I want is the old Clarice, not the new one. Is that hard to understand?"
Grandpa Eliezer sighed. "Let's have a serious discussion, son. Give me a moment."
He gave his instructions to his distraught companions, Lorey, Marina and Carlos to return to the farm house because the picnic was over. "Guys, go home. Bring Caden with you. I just want to have a heart-to-heart talk with a heartbroken guy here."
"Copy, Grandpa," they said in chorus.
They packed up their bags, picnic blankets, and clothes and got into the vehicle. Carlos slid into the driver's seat and drove the car back to the farm house.
Grandpa Eliezer lowered himself into a chair beside his brooding grandson. "Son, what are you thinking about right now?" he asked.
Alpha Callum met his gaze. "Are you blaming me, Pops, for sending Clarice away?"
Grandpa Eliezer took a deep breath. "Son, you could have handled things differently..."
Alpha Callum raised a brow. "What do you mean, Pops? That I'm being mean to her?"
Grandpa Eliezer shakes his head. "What I'm trying to see is that today is supposed to be a happy day because Clarice is back alive. We thought that she was already dead, but a miracle happened and the Moon Goddess gave her back to us. We should be thankful for this amazing chance to see her again," he said.
Then he continued, "If you were a bit calmer and didn't argue with her, she would still be here with us right now, enjoying a picnic with us. We would still be having a happy reunion right now. Instead you made things difficult for her, making her feel like she was the baddest person alive on this planet."
"I'm not saying she is that bad. I'm just saying I can't accept a wife who turns into an assassin. It's better that she no longer returns to her mentor who is grooming her to become a killing machine." Alpha Callum explains the reason behind his grumpy mood.
Grandpa Eliezer breathed deeply. "I understand your point of view, son. But her situation was difficult. So many things have changed in her life since her disappearance. Things are not easy for her."
"Pops, she is trying to defend her mentor who takes advantage of her weakness. To hell with those vampire monsters hibernating in their chambers. She doesn't have to babysit them. I want her to abandon her mentor and come back to us. Is that hard to do?" Alpha Callum argued stubbornly.
"Clarice has already told us about what she'd been through and I've already got the whole picture. She told me she had no choice. The only way out was to become her mentor's successor. She returned to us alive with great power, no longer a weak woman. These are pure blessings. Sometimes we just have to count the good things and don't focus much on the bad things in life. Can we just be thankful that she returned to us alive? That's all that really matters, right?" Grandpa Eliezer said, trying to make his grandson understand that his wife has no choice.
"She chose her mentor and no longer listens to me. But what about me and our son? We are her family. We will now become her second priority and her first priority is catching the bad guys and watching over those monsters. That's hard to accept," Alpha Callum stood by his reason.
Frustrated that he couldn't bring his grandson to take things easy and not condemn Clarice right away, Grandpa Eliezer took a long breath and said, "Alright, let's just continue talking about this issue with your wife some other time. I feel sad about what is happening with your family right now," he said gloomily, standing up.
"I want to stay here a few minutes more, Pops. I want to think things over, evaluate my feelings and where do I go from here?" Alpha Callum said sorrowfully. His heart is collapsing inside.
"Take your time, son," Grandpa Eliezer replied, patting his shoulder, comforting him.
"Please take care of my son for me," Alpha Callum said.
"Sure. No problem, son. Before I go, I just want to say this... please give your wife a chance. She deserves it. Don't be too hard on her. She has been through a lot just to return to your side alive. Just think things over a million times before you shut your door on your wife completely, okay?"
"OK." Alpha Callum nodded his head dejectedly, feeling wretched inside.
Grandpa Eliezer took a deep breath, shaking his head, looking at his grandson one last time before teleporting back to the farm house.
Alpha Callum was left alone in the lake, staring at the horizon, feeling lonely and sad, fighting back tears from falling down his face.
