82. Hopeless Situation
A week later.
Clarice was lying on the bed, staring at the ceiling, pondering how her husband and son were doing back home. She knew her husband was already sick to death, worrying and thinking about her. Unfortunately, there is no way she can inform them that she is very much alive and has become a vampire's blood feeder.
She desperately wanted to be home.
But since it's been more than two months already since she vanished into the ocean, people would normally assume that she was already dead. She can't blame her husband and the rest of her family if they think that way. It is indeed extremely hard to survive alive in the vast ocean for someone like her who is physically weak.
Sad to say, she is considered dead now in the eyes of many, including her family.
Why is this happening to her again?
Why do bad people always win in the end? Why can't the Moon Goddess favor her for once and punish those bad people on her behalf?
She doesn't deserve this shitty fate!
Despite the betrayal and suffering at the hands of her enemies in the past, she chose to forget revenge in order to live a peaceful and happy life with her husband and son.
Why did her enemy still want her dead despite keeping her distance?
Why can't they leave her alone? Why?
Extreme sadness and anger gripped her heart. Tears rolled down her face in torrents. Her body trembled in agony and despair as her heartbreaking sobs filled the room.
A few minutes later, Demetria entered the room empty-handed. She looked at her blood feeder with an expression of worry flashing in her eyes. "What's wrong, dear? Are you in pain? Are you ill? Why are you crying?"
Clarice looked at the vampire with tear-filled eyes. "I want to go home. I miss my family so much! Please release me!" she begged, sobbing hard.
"You can no longer go home. You belong to me now. Your place is here beside me. I own your life from the moment I saved you," Demetria said casually, her eyes devoid of emotion.
"Please have mercy on me, Demetria. I have a husband and son waiting for me back home. I want to go home. I can't stay here any longer! Please release me," she begged in utter despair. Her heart broke into a million pieces due to the hopelessness of her situation.
"I like the taste of your blood so much, dear. I can't allow you to go home. The only time you can go home is when you are dead. Even if you want to die, I can't allow you to die. Your blood is too precious to go to waste. I will keep you as my blood feeder for as long as I like. You and I will live forever on this island. You will be my companion for life. Stop crying now. Save your tears and don't waste your time begging for mercy. I will never release you," Demetria declared with finality in her voice.
Clarice cried harder after hearing Demetria's cold-hearted response to her begging. She failed to gain the vampire's compassion, and it made her miserable.
Demetria will never release her, no matter how many times she begs her.
She was wasting her time begging for nothing.
Time to think wisely. Time to find a way to escape this place!
"I'll come back later if you are done crying." Demetria walked to the door, and halted in her tracks. She turned around and addressed the distraught woman on the bed. "After my return and you are done crying, you can finally leave this room, and you will be able to stay with me upstairs. So behave yourself. No more crying if you want to leave this room. Do you understand?"
Hope surged through Clarice's heart. She quickly nodded her head. "Yes, I understand."
"Good!" Demetria opened the door and exited the room.
Clarice stopped crying the moment Demetria mentioned leaving the room.
Was she dreaming? But she heard the truth from Demetria's mouth. She can finally leave the basement today!
She smiled brightly. Hope surged through her heart again.
Yay! She can finally leave the room today.
Leaving the room in the basement was her salvation. Living outside is better than staying in this room for the rest of her life.
Once outside, she will try to find a way to escape and go home to her family. She will bide her time and wait for the perfect moment when Demetria lowers her guard down and she will escape!
That's right...
She has no plans to spend her entire lifetime as a bloodsucker's feeder. She needs to go home no matter what the cost.
She wiped tears from her eyes and folded her meager belongings. They were old clothes, undies, towels and bedsheets that were given to her by Demetria.
She was excited to leave the basement and see the layout of the house so she could start planning her escape.
After packing her things, Clarice returned to bed and waited for the vampire's return.
A few hours later.
Demetria returned to the room, pleased that Clarice had already stopped crying. "I see you are much calmer now. I will reward you with a nice lunch outside," she said, smiling brightly.
"Thank you." Clarice rose about to leave the bed.
"Stay where you are, dear. Don't get so excited about seeing the world outside," Demetria replied with a smirk.
Confused, Clarice stared at her tormentor for a few minutes, trying to decipher the meaning of her smirk. Is Demetria planning something sinister for her outside?
She has already used to Demetria sucking her blood. What else is she planning to do with her?
What's going to happen to her the moment she steps outside the door?
Clarice suddenly felt nervous when Demetria smiled and waved her hand at her face.
Oh, no! Demetria was trying to put her to sleep!
Before Clarice could ask what Demetria was planning to do to her, she suddenly felt sleepy, and she fell back into bed. A few minutes later she fell into a deep sleep.
Clarice didn't know how many hours she had been falling asleep, but when she woke up, she was alone in the room. To her surprise, the door was already open. Her forehead creased in confusion.
Where is Demetria?
Why did she leave the door open?
Does it mean she can leave the room now?
But what if it was just a test?
Was Demetria testing her?
Clarice shakes her head a few times, debating whether she should wait for Demetria's return or leave the room and go outside.
After a few minutes of internal debate, curiosity got the better of her. Clarice walked slowly to the door and scanned the surrounding area. To her shock, she was greeted with the sight of a hallway. She now realized that the room she was put in was not a basement room. She had been staying in a room in a big house all along!
Or maybe Demetria transferred her to the room while she was sleeping.
She stepped into the hallway and looked left and right.
She saw a window. She ran towards it, smiling happily. Finally, she saw the sun again.
Amazing!
She filled her lungs with fresh air and looked heavenward. She could see an endless blue sky with no clouds in sight. And when she looked down, she was shocked when she found out the house was located on top of the mountain, facing the vast ocean with endless bodies of water stretching as far as her eyes could see.
What the heck?
Demetria's house was on top of a mountain surrounded by the ocean, and she couldn't see a safe passage down. The longer she looked down, the more the scenery looked terrifying. If she escapes the place recklessly, she might accidentally fall into the ocean and break her neck and bones because the ground below was dotted with an endless array of sharp rocks.
Escape looks impossible!
Her hope was shattered instantly.
But maybe the other side of the house could give her safe passage out of the house. She stepped away from the window and walked to the other end of the hallway and was lucky to see another window. Excited, she ran towards it and looked outside. To her horror and disappointment, she was greeted with the same terrifying scenery.
No way!
She was shaking her head in utter dismay. How can she reach the other mountain so that she can go down safely? The mountain where the house stood had no safe pathway down to the ground. Everywhere she looked, her eyes were greeted with danger at every turn.
How did Demetria leave the house?
After a few seconds of deep thinking, she finally realized why there is no need for stairs, bridges or anything connecting to the other mountains, because Demetria can teleport anywhere she likes.
Therefore, it's impossible to leave the place in her current state. She has no power to help her escape. She can't teleport!
Unless...
Unless Demetria brings her to the city. That's the only way she can leave the house and escape.
If Demetria does not allow her to leave the place, the only way for her to escape is to take a gamble and jump into the water, risking her life in the process.
Extreme sadness enveloped her heart. There is no way she can escape from this place! The realization hit her like a ton of bricks. It's like a death sentence!
Hope was fading fast in her heart.
She didn't see any houses or people living nearby. She and Demetria are completely alone on this island. Even if she screams for help at the top of her lungs, no one will come to help her.
She is doomed!
Tears of defeat and despair flooded Clarice's eyes. She could no longer see her beloved husband and son again!
Every minute that passed by she felt like she was dying of heartbreak.
Demetria suddenly appeared behind her. "Why are you crying again, dear?
Clarice turned around and looked at her tormentor with tear-filled eyes, fury flashing in her eyes.
