10. No Regrets!
Alpha Callum left the farm and went home via teleportation. When he arrived at his mansion, he went straight to his office. His Beta was already there checking his schedule on his notepad.
"Good morning, Alpha," Beta Amir said in a greeting.
"Morning," Alpha Callum replied, lowering himself into the chair. "What's on my schedule today?" he asked.
"Eating breakfast with Luna Viviana. She told me to put that on top of my list for you to do today," Beta Amir answered.
Alpha Callum groaned in dismay. "Tell her I'm already done eating breakfast on the farm," he said, and proceeded to browse his phone. "Did she ask you where I slept last night?"
"Yes. I told her that you visited Grandpa Eliezer at the farm, and you will be home this morning," Beta Amir said, "and you will eat breakfast with her," he added uncomfortably.
Alpha Callum glared at his assistant. He hates having breakfast with his wife. She always nag at him. Her irritating insecurity began when she learned that she couldn't give him a child because of her infertile condition. Every time he can't go home early at night, she always suspects that he is out there spending time with other women, despite telling her numerous times that he is not a womanizer.
The door suddenly plunged open.
Oh, no! Here comes the tigress. Alpha Callum groaned inwardly.
A plain looking woman in her early 30s with black curled hair bouncing in all directions entered the room. She was wearing an irate look on her face. She rushed to her husband's desk.
"Honey! Where did you sleep last night?" Luna Viviana asked in a sugary voice.
"I'll wait outside." Beta Amir quickly left the room, not wanting to be caught in a crossfire just in case the moody Luna would pull up a tantrum.
Luna Viviana sat on her husband's lap. "Tell me, you didn't hook up with a sexy woman at the wedding last night?" she asked, observing her husband's reaction to her question.
Alpha Callum shook his head. "Nope. My date at the wedding was my assistant. All the women there were with their partners or husbands, so I have no one to flirt with." He attempted a lame joke.
Luna Viviana's face darkened. She slapped her husband's chest. "Don't ever try cheating on me with anyone!" she hissed into his face.
Here we go again. Alpha Callum groaned in dismay. "Alright, let's eat breakfast together," he finally said.
"About time." Luna Viviana smiled.
The couple left the room and ate breakfast in the dining room.
While they were eating, Alpha Callum was wondering how to tell his wife about the existence of his son and Clarice? His wife would surely go berserk if she knew that he fathered a son with another woman.
Although Clarice already belongs to his past, Viviana will surely make things complicated and difficult for him given her temperament.
The only thing he can do is make sure the two women do not meet each other. He could introduce his son to his wife, but he must avoid introducing Clarice to Viviana.
A sigh escaped his lips. He could detect a turbulent storm forming in the distance.
"Why are you sighing, hon? What's wrong?" Luna Viviana asked, observing her husband's face, looking for telltale signs of infidelity.
"Nothing." Alpha Callum shook his head.
Luna Viviana put a slice of strawberry cake on her plate. "I'm going shopping today. Would you like to accompany me to the mall?" she asked.
"Nah. I have a lot of things to do today. Alpha duties," he casually said. "Enjoy shopping with your friends," he added, drinking water from the glass.
"OK." Luna Viviana gobbled up her favorite cake with gusto. "You know what? I kinda miss the farm and the countryside. I would like to visit the farm one of these days," she said.
Alpha Callum almost choked on the water. "When are you planning to visit there?" he asked.
"Probably next month," Luna Viviana replied.
Alpha Callum heaved a sigh of relief. If Clarice's condition improves faster, he can arrange other accommodations for her and Lorey outside the farm for several days while his wife stays on the farm.
The last thing he wanted was Viviana, causing chaos on the farm because of her jealous, freaky nature.
Hmm, he could lie his way out of the situation by declaring that Clarice is a relative of his late mother's side. But once Caden appears in the picture, he can no longer hide the truth that Clarice is the mother of his son.
Nah, lying won't work. He will tell Viviana the truth about his romantic past with Clarice, resulting in them having a beautiful son together. He's waiting for the perfect time to reveal the truth.
Once they were done eating, the couple went their separate ways. Luna Viviana went shopping while Alpha Callum performed his duty as the leader of the rogue wolves.
...
~Alpha Bruce's Mansion~
The couple just woke up from their tiring yet wonderful wedding ceremony last night.
Alpha Bruce planted a kiss on his wife's cheeks. "Good morning, my love."
Luna Aurelia smiled beautifully. "Morning, my love," she replied and reciprocated his kiss.
Their kiss lasted for a few minutes, warming their hearts.
"Did you enjoy the wedding ceremony last night?" Alpha Bruce asked, enveloping his wife in a loving embrace.
"Yes, of course!" Luna Aurelia replied joyously. She finally achieved her goal of becoming Alpha Bruce's wife and his Luna. The feeling is amazing. It catapulted her to the top. She's still floating on cloud 9 at this very moment.
The couple hugged each other lovingly, savoring their union.
Luna Aurelia fell silent for a moment. She needs to tell the truth about Clarice to her husband today. It can no longer be delayed. She quickly wants to bury her dark past so she can live in peace and happiness with her husband.
Last night, while she was busy beautifying herself for the wedding ceremony, Kaspar told her that Clarice and her maid had disappeared from the mansion while everyone was busy with wedding preparations.
The shaman assured her that Clarice would never survive the poison that he pushed down her throat, and even if Clarice escaped the mansion, she would never survive another day in the wilderness because of her weak condition.
Clarice is indeed a goner. She can't fight back.
Even if Clarice survives the poison that weakened her body, she won't be able to get revenge because she has no wolf and no family to depend on. She has nothing to worry about, Clarice. She will perish in the wilderness and her body will get eaten by wild animals.
Her position as Alpha Bruce's wife and Luna is very much secured.
Now is the perfect time to tell her husband that his previous wife had already passed away last night.
Aurelia cleared her throat, ready to deliver the bad news to her husband. "Um, my love, something happened last night during the wedding..."
Alpha Bruce looked at his wife with a raised brow. "What happened? Tell me..."
"Um, Luna Clarice passed away last night and, because of her contagious disease, Kaspar ordered the men to dig a grave, lock her dead body in a coffin and bury her in the cemetery. He didn't tell us about it because he didn't want to destroy the joyous mood of our wedding..." She paused for a second, swallowing the lump in her throat.
Then she continued, "He told me about it after the wedding while you were chatting with the other Alpha before they went home. I'm sorry about your loss," she said sadly. "I lost my best friend too," she added sorrowfully, pretending that Clarice's untimely passing hit her hard as well.
Alpha Bruce's body tensed. Guilt, remorse and sadness gripped his heart. He was deeply affected by her death. "I feel guilty right now. I was preoccupied with our relationship and I forgot about my wife. We need to go to the cemetery and visit her grave now!" he said with urgency in his tone, getting out of bed in a hurry.
"I'll come with you. We will bring flowers and candles to put on her tomb," Luna Aurelia said, jumping out of bed as well. She needed to show her husband that she was deeply saddened by the sudden passing of her best friend.
The couple ate breakfast in the dining room, then got ready for their short trip to the cemetery while the servants were preparing flowers and candles in the living room.
Twenty minutes later, the couple boarded the car waiting outside the driveway, and they proceeded to the family cemetery, just a few minutes' drive from the mansion.
When they arrived at the cemetery the sun was already up in the sky, casting a bright glow all over the cemetery.
They immediately found the freshly dug grave with the Luna Clarice tombstone erected on top. The couple placed the basket of flowers on the grave.
Luna Aurelia lit the candle and fixed her gaze on Clarice's tombstone in silence.
Alpha Bruce stared at the tombstone for a long time. His negligence and betrayal of his late wife cut deep into his soul. How did it happen? When did the betrayal start? He began questioning himself.
Everything started when his wife got sick and could no longer attend to his needs. An empty space was created in his life. When his wife became ugly and weaker each day, that's when he took notice of Aurelia's beauty. And when she began flirting with him, seducing him, he succumbed to her temptations, and they had an exciting and intense love affair. They were making love in cars, in the basement, in the garden and anywhere as long as they could satisfy their lust for each other.
His forbidden relationship with Aurelia flourished while his wife's condition deteriorated. When the shaman told him that he could no longer visit his wife because her disease was contagious, and she was dying, he believed his claim. He was afraid to die prematurely, leaving the pack leaderless, without an heir to continue his legacy.
But despite everything, Luna Clarice was a good wife to him, and they lived a peaceful life together.
Now that it has finally ended this way, he can't shake the feeling of guilt from his heart. He couldn't help it, a tear fell from his eyes. "Wife, I'm so sorry for neglecting you. Please forgive me," he said apologetically, his eyes glistened with tears.
A triumphant smile curled up on Luna Aurelia's face. She gently rubbed her husband's back, consoling him.
She felt no remorse when she convinced the shaman to poison and betray her best friend Clarice.
Her best friend's death sealed her fate as Alpha Bruce's wife and Luna.
What is there to regret?
After all, in this cruel world, only the brave, the bold and the wicked will stay alive. The weak and dumb will be eaten alive and perish into oblivion.
Delighted with her triumph, Luna Aurelia looked at the blue sky above, thanking the Moon Goddess for making her dreams come true. Her scheming heart has no regrets, because she justified her actions by believing in the saying that says, 'The winners take all!'
