61. Wedding Gift
Clarice saw Aurelia and Kaspar returning to their table while her ex-husband, Alpha Bruce, was chatting animatedly with several Alphas at another table.
Clarice saw everything when Grandpa Eliezer accidentally spilled wine on Aurelia's dress and the moment she fell on the ground when her high heels shoes broke. She was smiling brightly, amused at witnessing such an unexpected happening on her wedding day.
Grandpa Eliezer didn't inform her in advance of what he would do. Maybe it wasn't part of his plan, but since the opportunity presented itself, he just did it out of spite and impulse.
It was the best wedding gift she ever received that night. It's just a simple act of revenge, but it already feels like a big victory for her heart because she still can't forget what her enemies had done to her.
She promised herself that as long as she becomes Alpha Callum's wife and lives happily with him together with their son, she will forget revenge and live on as a new person in her disguise as Charice Evans.
She will live in peace and try her best not to harbor hatred in her heart anymore.
She just wants to cherish and enjoy her new life as Callum's beloved wife and mother to her son Caden.
Her life is already perfect. No need to dwell on her past. She will move on with love and gratitude in her heart.
Done greeting the guest, she went to the table where her family could be seen talking to each other. They looked like they were having a good time.
"Guys, are you enjoying the wedding party?" she asked.
"Yes!" they replied in chorus.
"I want to go to the villa now and sleep. I'm feeling sleepy," Grandpa Eliezer said.
"Me too!" Lorey said. "I hate seeing Aurelia and Kaspar. They make my blood boil, so I want to go home and sleep," she whispered.
"I understand." Clarice smiled. She looked at the couple, Marina and Carlos. "Guys, do you still want to stay longer?" she asked.
The couple shook their heads. "We want to go back to the villa and rest," they replied in chorus.
"OK, we should all go back to the villa and rest," Clarice agreed.
She glanced at the table where her husband, Alpha Callum, could be seen talking to five Alphas at one table along with Beta Amir.
When Alpha Callum met his wife's gaze, he stood up, bid goodbye to the other Alphas and left the table.
"Is everything alright here?" he asked when he reached the table occupied by his loved ones.
"Yeah. We're doing fine. Um, everyone wants to go back to the villa because they're already sleepy, ready to retire for the night. I'm sleepy too, I want to rest," Clarice said, covering her mouth when she started yawning.
"OK. Let's announce to the guests that we will call it a night," Alpha Callum said.
"I don't want to talk. You go ahead and talk to them. I will just stand beside you while you announce to everyone that we are leaving. They are free to stay at the wedding reception until 11:00," Clarice said.
"OK." Alpha Callum held his wife's hand lovingly.
They walked to the podium. Alpha Callum took the microphone and began talking. "Ladies and gentlemen, I hope you enjoyed the evening. My wife and I would like to thank everyone for attending our wedding. We appreciate it very much. My wife and I will rest now. You can continue the party until 11:00 tonight. Once again, thank you for coming. Enjoy the night!"
The crowd raised their wine glasses in the air and cheered the newlyweds.
The couple waved goodbye to their guests as they left the reception area, heading for the villa.
A few minutes later, everyone entered the villa and retired to their respective rooms after bidding each other goodnight.
Lorey took care of Caden. After they finished brushing their teeth in the kitchen sink, she tucked him into bed and they slept peacefully that night.
Meanwhile, in the couple's bedroom, Alpha Callum helps Clarice out of her wedding gown.
"You can go back to the party if you still want to talk to your friends and acquaintances," Clarice offered.
"Nah, I'm done talking to them. Let's just sleep early," he said, carefully putting the wedding gown on the back of the chair.
"Thank you for the fireworks display. They are awesome," Clarice said in a thrilled voice.
Alpha Callum shook his head and said, "I'm not responsible for the fireworks."
A line appeared between Clarice's brows. "Are you sure?"
"Yeah. I initially wanted to have a fireworks display to surprise you, but I changed my mind for security reasons," he explained.
"But who orchestrated the fireworks display if not you or me?" Clarice asked in bafflement.
"Maybe it was Beta Amir," Alpha Callum said. "I'm going to ask him," he said, unlocking his phone. He was about to call his assistant when his phone beeped, he received a message. After reading it, he looked at his wife and said, "I already know who is responsible for the fireworks display."
"Who?" Clarice asked.
"It was Viviana. She just sent me a text message asking me if we enjoyed the fireworks display, her wedding gift for us," he said, showing Clarice the text message he received from his ex-wife.
Clarice read the text message and sighed heavily. "Just text her and say thank you."
"OK." Alpha Callum typed a thank-you message and sent it to his ex-wife. Then he looked at his wife. "Are you okay?" he asked, inspecting her face.
Clarice smiled sweetly. "Of course, I'm fine. I'm just happy that we are finally married. Our wedding was successful despite the presence of two people who had tried to kill me in the past. I managed to keep my cool. I'm surprised I was able to handle my temper the whole time they were within my sight."
Alpha Callum planted a loving kiss on his wife's head. "Yeah. I saw them too. I'm tempted to serve them food and wine mixed with poison of the strongest kind," he joked.
Clarice grinned. "Yeah, why didn't we think of it?"
"Because we are a peace-loving couple." He chuckled and planted a kiss on her lips. "I truly admire your sense of control. You handle your enemies with grace. Grandpa was naughty though. He seized the opportunity and gave Aurelia a taste of her own medicine the second time around. Good thing it didn't escalate, and our wedding party wasn't ruined. The wedding was successful. Now we can finally start building a family of our own," he said happily.
"Yes. It's finally over. Time to start a new phase in our lives," she said joyously.
The couple entered the bathroom, brushed their teeth together and a few minutes later, they put on their pajamas. They went to bed, cuddled and kissed for a few minutes, then closed their eyes, ready to sleep for the night.
Meanwhile...
Back at the wedding reception, the guests were still enjoying the night, chatting with each other, drinking an endless supply of wine and enjoying the spectacular view of the cityscapes in the distance.
Aurelia was sipping her wine, eyes glued to the sky above. In her mind she was busy planning a welcome party for Charice Evans, so the other Luna could also meet her. A perfect excuse to get to know up close the mysterious person behind the veil.
A thousand miles away, at the beach house...
Viviana read her ex-husband's text message five times. In the message he thanked her for the fireworks display, her gift to the newlyweds on their wedding day.
Tears rolled down her cheeks as hatred simmered in her heart. "One day I will have my revenge!" She repeated the words over and over again like a mantra.
That night, she slept alone in her bed. Her heart was gripped with hatred, sadness and loneliness, clamoring for revenge.
