44. Unpredictable, Unexpected!
Clarice was waiting agonizingly for a few minutes before Callum responded to their mind-link.
'Give me a moment. I'm coming now. Stay calm, babe.' Alpha Callum responded.
Clarice released a deep sigh of relief. Everyone was looking at her expectantly.
"Mommy, why does the woman say she is Daddy's wife? That woman is lying, right? You are Daddy's wife. Daddy loves you and me, right?" Caden asked anxiously.
Clarice hugged her son. Her eyes were wet with unshed tears. "Daddy loves you and me. Don't listen to that woman. Let's not talk about her," she said and kissed his head to silence him.
"Mommy, can we go back to the house now? I want to play with my toys," Caden said, tugging at his mother's wet shorts.
Clarice looked at everyone. "Guys, the picnic is over. Let's change into dry clothes. Callum is coming. Let's wait a bit," she said sadly.
Marina gave her a hug. "Whatever it is that you are going through right now, I'll always be here for you," she said, her tone filled with understanding and concern for her cousin's well-being.
Clarice bit her lip, feeling tormented inside. "Thank you, cousin."
The group changed into their dry clothes and packed up their picnic blankets and bags, ready to leave the lake.
A few minutes later, Alpha Callum's car arrived in the clearing. He and Beta Amir exited the car.
"Daddy is here!" Caden squealed in delight.
Alpha Callum rushed to his family and picked up his son in his arms. He planted a kiss on Clarice's head. "Is everyone alright?" he asked, looking at their faces. They looked flustered and dispirited, but no one was hurt.
"We're fine," Clarice answered, teary-eyed.
"What happened here?" Alpha Callum inquired.
Clarice cleared her throat. "I was swimming in the water with others while Grandpa was fishing with Caden beside him. Suddenly, a woman arrived and talked to Grandpa. I didn't hear their conversation because I was still in the water. So I got out of the water and approached them. That is the moment I knew that she was Luna Viviana. She heard the part when our son mentioned your name, asking Grandpa why you hadn't arrived yet..."
She paused for a moment, catching her breath.
Then she continued her narration, "Caden mentioned your name, which is why your wife got suspicious. When our son rushed to my side calling me Mommy, that's how Viviana connected all the dots together. I ran away, trying to avoid having a confrontation with her. When your wife runs after me, Grandpa has no choice but to use his power and freeze her on the spot. Then he takes her to the house to prevent her from making trouble. That's what happened here while you were away."
Alpha Callum took a deep breath. He wasn't expecting his wife to be back in the country so early. Why would she come to the farm without telling him? No text or call from her at all regarding her change of schedule. She didn't inform him that she was already back in the country. Something is not right.
"What are we going to do now? This is truly unexpected," Clarice said worriedly.
"Just stay here. I'll go to the farm and see what's going on there. Beta Amir will stay here with you. My plan is to teleport Viviana to our mansion so you and Lorey can go back to the house and pack your things. Then my assistant will take you to the rental house ready for occupancy. I'll inform you in our mind link if I'm already in the mansion with my wife," Alpha Callum stated grimly.
Clarice nodded her head. "Copy."
A few minutes later, Alpha Callum vanished from the lake, teleporting to the farm house.
When Alpha Callum appeared in the living room of the house, Luna Viviana was lying on the sofa in her frozen state while Grandpa Eliezer was sitting across the sofa, watching over her.
"I'm glad you're finally here, son," Grandpa Eliezer said in relief.
"What happened, Pops? Why has my wife suddenly appeared in the lake? She didn't inform me in advance that she would be back in the country early. I thought she would arrive next week," Alpha Callum said, scratching his jaw.
"I don't know if you will feel happy or sad about what I'm going to tell you, son." Grandpa Eliezer sighed deeply.
"I'm all ears, Pops. Tell me please," Alpha Callum said, wanting to put an end to his confusion, wondering why his wife suddenly appeared on the farm and not in the mansion. Did Viviana already suspect that he had housed Clarice here on the farm? But that would be impossible.
"Son, the reason why your wife arrived here on the farm unannounced, is because she wanted to personally thank me," Grandpa Eliezer begins.
Alpha Callum raised a brow. "Thank you? What for?"
"When she went to Australia and visited a fertility clinic there and underwent some tests, the test result was positive. She is finally pregnant with your child! The medicine I gave her was effective in making her pregnant, which is why she came home early to surprise you and me," Grandpa Eliezer explained.
"Whaaaaat!?" Alpha Callum's eyes widened in shock and surprise, as he stared at his wife's stomach. "Is... she... she really pregnant?" he asked in astonishment and disbelief.
"Yup. I had already checked her pulse. She was telling the truth. Viviana is indeed pregnant. If you want the baby to survive healthily in your wife's tummy, you can't subject her to a stressful situation," Grandpa Eliezer said, warning him. "No matter what happens, the child your wife carried in her womb is still your flesh and blood," he added with emphasis.
Reeling from the shock, Alpha Callum sat on the sofa, looking haggard. He felt conflicted inside. "Did Clarice know my wife was pregnant?"
Grandpa Eliezer shook his head. "No. When your wife blurted the news to me, Clarice was still swimming in the water. She didn't hear my conversation with Viviana regarding the pregnancy."
Alpha Callum chewed on his bottom lip, his jaw clenched. "This is unexpected. I don't know what to do or say..."
"And one more thing, your wife already knows that Clarice is your woman, and you had a son with her. You can't hide the truth from her anymore," Grandpa Eliezer added gloomily.
Alpha Callum shut his eyes tightly, trying to wake up from a bad dream. He began shaking his head in utter despair. "Dammit! This is not real!"
Grandpa Eliezer patted his shoulder sympathetically. "Son, this is real. The nightmare is real, and you have to face it head on."
Alpha Callum sighed heavily. "What am I going to do now? I had already made up my mind about divorcing my wife. I'm looking forward to going home every day to Clarice and my son. I can no longer stay in the same house with my wife. I just can't!" he howled in agony.
"I know, son. But you have to understand that your wife was also carrying your child in her tummy. You can't abandon mother and child. You just can't," Grandpa Eliezer said sadly.
Alpha Callum fell silent, staring at his frozen wife for a long time, trying to come to terms with her unexpected pregnancy.
"Son, I suggest that you take your wife to your mansion now and have a heart-to-heart talk with her. She will be unfrozen any moment from now, and once she awakens, you have to be ready for her verbal lashing. She will be very angry, so you have to be prepared for her outburst. Good luck!" Grandpa Eliezer said, opening the door wide.
"Thanks Pops." Alpha Callum picked up his frozen wife. "Pops, can you please go to the lake and inform them that it's now safe to return here?" he said, moving towards the car.
"OK. Leave them to me." Grandpa Eliezer opened the car door.
Alpha Callum put Viviana in the passenger seat of the rented car. He sat on the seat beside her. "Pops, I am going now."
"Good luck, son." Grandpa Eliezer waved his hand.
A few minutes later, the car vanished, and Grandpa Eliezer proceeded to the lake.
