94. The Escape
Hours passed quickly.
Clarice was reading the book, yet her mind couldn't concentrate. She went to the kitchen and prepared her food for dinner. After eating delicious noodles with eggs and herbs, she went outside the house and stared at the horizon.
Demetria told her that she would bring her husband at 10:00 in the evening. She looked at the clock hanging on the wall. It's still 5:45 p.m., too early.
She's getting nervous as time passes by. Anxiety is killing her.
Her success in escaping tonight depends entirely on her husband's action and cooperation. As much as she is confident that she can escape tonight, she also can't ignore the possibility that her plan will fail.
The night is getting late. Clarice's nervousness rises to the roof. She felt restless, pacing back and forth in the living room, at a loss for what to do. Should she just go to her room and rest and wait there or stay awake and continue watching the wall clock like a ticking time bomb waiting to explode at any given moment?
She took a deep breath. Her situation was nerve-wracking. It's the waiting and anticipation that is torturing her inside.
Meanwhile...
At Alpha Callum's mansion, he can be seen drinking wine on the balcony, staring at the dark sky above.
Viviana approached him and said, "You should sleep now. If you continue drinking alcohol, your health will suffer in the long run," she said in a tone filled with concern. She wanted him to know that she still cared for his well-being despite everything that happened between them.
Alpha Callum shook his head. "Go back to your room. Don't interfere with my affairs. I know what I'm doing," he said gruffly.
Stung by his cold words, Viviana sighed heavily. "Your wife has already passed away. Just move on please," she begged him. She knew why he kept drinking every night before going to bed. His heart was still grieving for his missing wife, and it pained her watching him like this.
Alpha Callum glared at her, annoyed by her interference. "Go to your room now!" he ordered sharply.
"OK. Sorry for disturbing your solitude," Viviana apologized quickly and left the balcony.
Alpha Callum continued sipping his wine, unshed tears glistening in his eyes; he had a hard time moving on after his wife's disappearance. He was still hurting badly, missing her deeply. He continued to live for his son and his pack. Dealing with sadness and depression every single day is not easy.
All of a sudden, he felt his hands freeze, he couldn't move his legs and head, then his eyelids were dropping fast and he felt sleepy. He drifted into a deep slumber still sitting in the chair.
Demetria appeared behind him in her invisible form. "Come with me, lover boy. Time to meet your wife," she said, placing her right hand on his arm.
Alpha Callum disappeared from the chair in the blink of an eye.
A few minutes later, Demetria appeared inside Clarice's room and placed Alpha Callum's sleeping form on the bed. She left the room to find Clarice outside. She found herself in the living room, staring at the wall in deep thoughts.
"I'm back!" Demetria announced, smiling broadly. "I see you are still awake. I guess you are excited to see your husband?" she asked.
Clarice stood up. She was apprehensive when Demetria arrived alone in the house. She asked, "Where is he?"
"Are you disappointed that I returned alone?" Demetria asked.
"Please don't play with my feelings and emotions, Demetria!" Clarice snapped, annoyed.
"Calm down, dear. Your husband is in your room. Enjoy bonding with him for two hours. Go there now!" Demetria finally said.
Clarice's eyes lit up. She ran to her room, excited to see her husband again. When she arrived in her room, her heart leaped with joy to see her husband lying on the bed with his eyes closed. She walked to the bed and hugged her husband tightly. Tears of joy sprang from her eyes.
"Husband, I'm so happy we see each other again!" she said lovingly, kissing his cheeks. "I miss you so much! I love you so much!" she said affectionately.
She's been hugging her husband for a few minutes, yet he is not responding to her because he is in deep sleep. She left the bed and exited the room to look for Demetria. She has one request to ask in order for her plan to work.
She found Demetria sitting on the sofa in the living room, waiting for her. "What's wrong, dear?"
"I know you put him in a deep sleep. Can you wake him up, please?" she begged.
"Can you promise me that you won't escape tonight?" Demetria asked.
Clarice trembled in fear. How did she know about her plan to escape? Dang, of course she knew all along, she is not dumb!
"How could I escape? I don't have supernatural powers," Clarice protested, feigning innocence.
"You have no powers, but your husband can teleport, right?" Demetria asked.
"Um..." Clarice stammered nervously.
"You can't answer because I'm right?" Demetria smirked. "Alright, go back to your room now and wait for a few minutes. He will wake up soon."
"Thank you," Clarice said, feeling apprehensive. She turned around and returned to her room. When she arrived there, her husband was still sleeping.
She sat on the bed and rested her head on his chest, listening to the gentle beating of his heart. "Wake up, husband! Please wake up now!" she begged.
She looked at his face. His eyes were still closed.
Then all of a sudden, his eyes slowly opened. "Wife?" he asked in disbelief.
"Yes, it's me! I'm alive! Hurry up! Take me out of here! Teleport me to Grandpa Eliezer's farm! I'm serious, I'm not joking!" Clarice whispered frantically in his ears.
Alpha Callum looked at her, surprised by her request. "Why?"
"Just do it! I'm currently being abducted by someone powerful! Hurry up! Take me out of here!" Clarice insisted, panicking.
Alpha Callum shook his head, confused. "Why? We are here in our bedroom. Why would you want us to teleport to Grandpa Eliezer's farm? Are you dreaming? Are you having a nightmare?"
Tears of desperation shone in Clarice's eyes. "Just listen to me first! I will explain later. Teleport us to the farm now!" she ordered hysterically.
Alpha Callum shook his head vigorously. "No. We are not going anywhere unless you tell me why you are looking so scared? What's wrong with you? What's going on with you? Tell me!"
Clarice was getting desperate as the agonizing minutes passed by. She realized that her husband was dreaming of her. She is currently in his dream, which is why he is not listening to her pleading.
Demetria was aware of her intention of escaping. That is why her husband is not fully awake like her son.
She broke down in his arms, weeping hard, but her tears had no effect on her husband because he fell asleep again.
Oh no! Demetria has frozen him again!
Demetria appeared inside the room. "I see, you are planning to escape. I was right when I put your husband in dream mode. He was puzzled by your outrageous request. Anyway, no harm was done. I already forgive you for attempting to escape. You can still enjoy your husband for two hours. This time I froze him for my peace of mind."
Enraged, Clarice glared at Demetria. Her eyes flashed with hatred. "I hate you for doing this to me! I hate you for toying with my emotions!" she shouted angrily.
Demetria sighed. "This is what I got for trying to help you? You are ungrateful!"
"Leave me alone! Go away!" Clarice shouted indignantly.
Demetria shrugged, looking unbothered by Clarice's outburst. She disappeared from the room in the blink of an eye.
Clarice continues her weeping, disappointed by the result of her failed escape.
She rested her head on her husband's chest and closed her eyes, desperately trying to recreate the same dream they had earlier.
A dream is better than nothing.
