Chapter 42— In Love With Axel?
Lena was stunned when she heard Madam Carmen's words. 'What was she talking about? Did she know about this?'
"I'm confused, why did you run off? You should have told him that you felt the same way, " Madam Carmen's eyes narrowed as they scrutinised Lena's face.
"I...don't.." Lena stuttered.
Madam Carmen stared at Lena with raised eyebrows, "You don't what?"
"I don't love Henderson, we are just friends and he is my boss, " Lena stated.
Madam Carmen smiled, "Are you saying that to convince me or yourself?"
"It's fine if you want to take your time to think about it. But I know you both are in love with each other, I've always known that when the signs were everywhere. It's a good thing to be in love, I'm not saying this because Henderson is my boss, no. I've known Henderson since he was a teenager, till he got married to that Vivian and he has gone through a lot. I've never seen him this happy after the divorce but things have changed and it's because you came into his life. Itzel loves you, give Henderson a chance. But regardless of the decision you make, I'll always support you." Madam Carmen purred, she gave Lena a small squeeze on the shoulder before she ambled away.
Lena retired to her room afterwards.
"Aunt Lena, I think my Daddy really likes you." Itzel giggled.
"Maybe he wants to be your boyfriend mommy, " Trent added grinning.
Lena's cheeks glowed red, and when she realised she was smiling she kept a straight face.
"Where did you get that from you two? Don't stay stuff like that, you are just kids." She frowned.
"You know what since you are done with your homework, it's time to go play. I need to rest, also I won't be having dinner with you guys. I'm very full." She smiled hoping that Trent and Itzel weren't going to say anything else.
'How did they know all of that? She would have thought it was Henderson who told them that but she was convinced he wouldn't do something like that. She concluded that they were just saying the darndest things kids usually say.
"Daddy, Aunt Lena said she won't be having dinner with us if that's what you are worried about," Itzel informed when she saw Henderson hesitate to eat after their meals were served.
When Henderson returned from the office, he asked after Lena and was told she was asleep. He freshened up and came downstairs for dinner and still, there was no sign of Lena anywhere. Henderson wondered if she was trying to avoid him after he had confessed his feelings to her or if maybe something was wrong with her that was why she told the kids she wasn't going to be having dinner with them.
"You guys can go ahead and start eating, I'll go check up on Lena, " Henderson mumbled after he sprang up from his chair.
'What if the headaches were back this time?' He needed to be sure that Lena was okay so he tried not to jump to conclusions that she was avoiding him.
Lena gazed at the ceiling, she tried all she could to drift to sleep after Itzel and Trent left her room earlier but it was all a wasted trial. She decided to avoid Henderson until she was ready to face him. Thoughts of Henderson filled her mind from how they first met when she started working at the mansion how he fired her and forgave her after which he gave her her job back. Every single thing that happened between them kept refreshing her memories and she couldn't help but smile at them.
Henderson sighed as he took his hands out of pocket, he was standing right in front of Lena's door. His knuckles tapped softly against the door.
'Henderson, ' Lena gasped. She knew that knock very well she didn't need to hear his voice to know that he was the one at the door. She lay on her side, she closed her eyes shut afterwards pretending to be asleep. That was what she had been doing earlier, if someone knocked on the door she faked being asleep.
Henderson knocked repeatedly but got no response, he was starting to get very worried. 'What if she was having a nightmare or sick?' He knocked again but got no response.
Henderson had ranrunt of patience, his chest was heavy with worry without thinking twice he pushed the door open and stepped in.
A sigh of relief left his lips as his eyes beheld Lena who he thought to be asleep.
Henderson smiled as he peered at Lena's beautiful face, with every step that he took closer to Lena her heart palpitated in her chest. She didn't know if she was going to keep up with her drama at the rate her heart was beating.
Henderson grabbed the duvet and pulled it over Lena.
"Sweet dreams Lena, " he smiled before walking out of the room.
Once Lena heard the door close shut she opened her eyes immediately and sat up. Even though Henderson covering her with the duvet was a simple caring act it mattered a lot, her face was full of smiles. Sooner she tried so hard not to smile so as not to expose herself.
The Next Day.....
Lena did her best trying to avoid Henderson, she didn't have breakfast with him Itzel and Trent she made an excuse that she had something to do. She didn't even tell Henderson directly, she had told Trent and Itzel to tell him. Lena left her room only when she was sure that Henderson had left with the kids to school.
"On my way to Trent's school all set for bring your dad to school day. I can't wait to meet Henderson and see what he's going to do when he finds out I'm Trent's father, your love Axel." Lena rose on her feet immediately, it seemed as though strength had been drained from her muscles, and her hands had become clammy.
'No, No! This can't be happening, " Lena fidgeted pacing around the living room after reading the text from Axel.
She was watching wars in Uranus when her phone chimed, she picked it up and that was when she saw the message Axel had sent to her from a private number. The last time he had called her up she blocked his number but it seemed that wasn't enough.
Hours later....
Lena didn't know what to do, she called Matteo up and told him about the message she had gotten from Axel, Matteo advised her to remain calm he noticed how much the message had perturbed her and made her thoughts disarrayed. Lena was bothered about what the aftermath of Henderson finding out that Trent was Axel's son was going to be, her lie was going to be exposed both to Henderson and Trent which she dreaded.
"Henderson, " Madam Carmen sputtered as she pulled the door open and saw Henderson.
Lena made to run off to her room when she heard Madame Carmen call Henderson's name, she figured out that he was at the door but before she could reach the stairs Henderson's voice made her stop in her tracks.
"Lena."
She took a deep breath and swivelled swiftly to face Henderson after she heard him voice out her name. Madam Carmen smiled at Lena before she ambled out of the living room.
If she had known Henderson was going to return to the mansion this soon, she would never have stayed in the living room.
The expression on Henderson's face was very hard to read and the look in his eyes was very difficult to decipher.
As Henderson scooted to Lena her head was lowered she feared if Henderson had come to know to truth, what then was she going to say to him?
When Henderson stood in front of Lena she was forced to lift her head and gaze into his eyes.
"Are you in love with Axel? Is that the reason you've been avoiding me?" Hurt laced Henderson's voice, his eyes scrutinised every inch of Lena's face as though he was in search of something hidden.
