Chapter 78— Unwanted Presence!
"Lena, I had no idea you were raped. All these years Mom has hurled insults at you but you never said anything. Why didn't you tell me at least?"
Irene was shell-shocked the moment she got to know that Axel was Trent's biological father and that he had raped Lena which made her get pregnant.
"I didn't know what to say to you and mom. Mom already had her view about me and I feared she was going to be disappointed in me. I couldn't tell you because..." Lena's eyes brimmed with tears she cleared her throat and made to continue but Irene shook her head. She took steps closer to Lena and embraced her in a warm hug.
"Sis, please don't cry. I think mom has to know about this, that way she'll realise her wrongdoings." Irene mumbled as they broke the hug.
Lena wriggled her head in dissuasion, she didn't want her mother to know about it even until now.
"Don't tell mom about it. I don't think she cares, she'll never care." Lena shrugged her shoulders.
"I'm tired of the way things are with you and mom. These days I'm getting fed up with her behaviour, remember the day I got to know that Itzel and Trent were abducted and came over. Mom almost didn't let me leave the house when I told her I was coming to your place. I told her she either let me go or I was going to pack out and then she left me alone, as if that wasn't enough drama when I was here she called and she sounded really urgent only for me to get home and find her on the couch watching TV." Cleo sighed in annoyance.
"Mom is such a drama queen." Lena burst out laughing and that earned her a glare from Irene.
"You think it's funny. It's been less than a month since I got back but mom has managed to make my life a living hell in such a short period." Irene loured arching a brow at Lena.
"I'm sorry, I'm pretty sure Mom thinks she's loving you that way."
"Yeah right? Mom is just something else these days, I mean she's not the same. She has become torns in the flesh of those kids whom she once cherished and would do anything for. I really miss Dad, I wish he was here." A sigh left Irene's lips and a smile marred her face.
Lena breathed deeply, " I miss Dad too. He would be so proud of the woman his little Irene has become."
"Daddy would be proud of you too. You are the strongest woman I know of Lena, " Irene beamed warmly stroking Lena's shoulder.
"And you are the best sister I could ever ask for, " Lena gleamed wrapping her arms around Irena in a hug.
"I can't wait for your engagement to happen, " Irene giggled after they disengaged the hug.
THE ENGAGEMENT.....
"Lena, " Greg smiled spreading his arms for a hug as he sauntered to her after he walked into the room.
It was the D-day of Lena's and Henderson's engagement, they had invited friends and other close acquaintances. The event was yet to start but Greg showed up before time.
"You came early, thank you." Lena gleamed giving Greg a side hug.
"Yes, I had to. I'm sorry Kyra also came along, she said she has to apologise to you all for what she did." Greg mumbled turning to Kyra who was still standing at the door.
She ambled to where Lena was.
"Congratulations, I'm really sorry for the things I did. I regret all of my actions, " Kyra muttered apologetically.
Lena glanced at her without saying a word, just then Henderson emerged from the stairs.
"Hi, Henderson." Greg greeted with a polite smile stretching his hand to Henderson who came to stand beside Lena.
Henderson peered at Greg with puckered brows, "Greg? Kyra?" His eyes narrowed as it shifted to Kyra ignoring Greg's hand which was still extended to him. Greg withdrew his hand in embarrassment.
"What are you both doing here?"
"I'm really sorry for what I did to you both. Please forgive me. Congratulations!" Kyra chipped in remorsefully, her head was downturned she couldn't maintain eye contact with Lena and Henderson.
"It's fine." Lena gave Kyra a small smile, she turned to Henderson waiting to hear what he was going to say.
Henderson's jaw was clenched as he gazed at Kyra. He didn't even realise that Lena's eyes were on him until she held onto his arm, his expression softened as he turned to her.
"Fine. You can leave...."
"Babe, what if she just stays for the engagement?" Lena whispered.
Henderson nodded in affirmation even though he wasn't okay with it, but since it was what Lena wanted then it was fine.
"Thanks, babe, " Lena kissed him before turning to Kyra.
"You can stay."
"Thank you, " Kyra smiled.
Lena and Henderson went upstairs together after that after telling the maids to attend to Kyra and Greg.
"I know you really don't want Kyra and Greg here. I'm sorry for inviting Greg without letting you know."
Lena wrapped her hands around Henderson, her lips pressed against each other.
"True, but you want them here so there is nothing I can do if that is what you want." Henderson smiled moving a strand of her curly hair, tucking it behind her ear.
"Now I feel bad like I'm causing you a lot of inconvenience, " Lena pouted.
Henderson grinned, "Not at all Lee. What about Irene? She said she was going to be here early."
"That was what she told me as well. Let me call her and see."
Lena picked up her phone and dialled Irene but if was unreachable she tried again but it was still the same.
"What is it?" Concern was written over Henderson's visage.
"It's unreachable."
"Let me try and see," Henderson muttered taking his phone from the couch.
"The number you called is currently switched off." That was the response they got.
"Since Matteo isn't here we should call him up and ask him to go over to your mom's place to see if Irene is still there," Henderson suggested after Lena nodded in agreement, he pressed his phone in search of Matteo's contact.
