Chapter 12— His Older Sister
"I'm the Nanny, Itzel's Nanny, " Lena mumbled with a smile ignoring the woman's stern look. She was tempted to ask the woman who she was, but she kicked against it letting herself wonder what relationship this woman and Henderson had since she figured out that the woman was not going to be allowed in by the security team and workers if they didn't know her.
"Nanny!" The woman's eyes narrowed as they scanned Lena from head to toe. She made a scrunched-up face before she fully entered the room and took a sit on the bed.
"What are you doing in my niece's room when she's not even around?" The woman said with contempt and her icy glare dorked Lena who just managed to still have a smile on her face, this woman was Itzel's aunty maybe that was why she was concerned about her presence in Itzel's room. She was just being a protective aunt so she didn't deem it right to blame the woman for her attitude towards her.
"I'm just cleaning it, " Lena replied shortly.
"Get out, I'll finish up." The woman seethed making Lena's brows furrow in confusion and surprise marred her face. Lena was perplexed as to why the woman was stopping her to do a job she was paid to do. Well even though cleaning Itzel's room wasn't a part of her job she was still doing it.
"Ma'am, I'm sorry but this is what I'm paid to do, " Lena muttered in a polite tone.
The woman's face morphed in anger and her eyes darkened in rage making Lena even more confused as to why a polite response resulted in such an angry expression.
The woman strutted to her feet immediately, she let out a cackle clapping her hands before her gaze settled on Lena.
"You dare to challenge my orders, I didn't know Henderson has started to employ rude workers who can't keep their tongues in check. You know Henderson is my brother and I can just tell him how rude and unwelcoming you've been to me and with that you'll be jobless in no time, " the woman threatened with an evil smile tugging her lips.
Lena stared at the woman for a while, now she could understand why the woman was exercising so much authority. It was because she was Henderson's sister and it appeared she was wrong to have thought that the woman was acting that way with Lena because she was looking out for Itzel, the woman was just plain rude but it was nothing new. She has had to deal with a lot of people who had the worst attitude towards her including her own mother so this was no big deal.
"You've got some guts I must say, you just stand there and stare at me like I'm your class. Didn't your mother teach you any manners?"
Lena jolted out of her thoughts when the woman's voice filled her ears. Lena was starting to get pissed, she was willing to ignore the insults Henderson's sister hurled at her but questioning her mother's parenting she wasn't so sure she could ignore that for long.
"Get out!" Henderson's sister snarled when her eyes met Lena's.
Lena nodded before she took her phone and dashed out of the room. She just had to do one thing avoid this woman, she could be a serious threat to her job since she didn't seem to like her and was already threatening to make her lose her job when they just met for the first time.
Lena went straight into her room and crashed into her bed, and it didn't take long before she drifted to sleep. She woke up a few hours later, and she bumped into Madame Carmen when she was taking some snacks to Henderson's sister. She got to know from Madame Carmen that the woman's name was Alia and she was Henderson's older sister, she took care of him when their parents died.
Lena went into Itzel's room only to find out that Alia didn't finish up the cleaning like she said she was going to, the room was the same way she had left it. Lena completed the cleaning before she left the room and headed downstairs when she heard Henderson's, Itzel's and Trent's voices.
When she walked into the living room she saw Itzel hugging Alia.
"You didn't tell me you were coming Alia. It's surprising that you showed up here."
Alia straightened herself up when she heard Henderson speak. She rolled her eyes at him but he just smiled.
"Don't get me wrong sis, it's not what you think. I'm happy you are here but I'm just surprised." Henderson shrugged putting his hands around Alia's shoulder.
"Really? I almost thought you were planning to kick me out of your house, " Alyona frowned taking his hand off her shoulder.
"Come on Alia. I would never do that."
Henderson noticed Alia's attention was somewhere else, her eyes were fixed on Trent. When Trent had come into the room earlier, he greeted Alia but she didn't respond even though she heard him. He thought that it was because she didn't hear him so he greeted her two more times but got no response still.
"Who is he?" Alia's nose crinkled and her lips curled up as her intense gaze hovered over Trent who fiddled with his hands. He was getting scared by Alia's stern gaze.
Lena ambled to where Trent was and took his hand in hers. She smiled at him, and then smoothened his hair seeing how anxious Trent was, he smiled back at her in relief. Lena turned to Alia afterwards, "he is my son."
"Your son? I don't get it, what is going on in this place?" Alia's brows puckered as her gaze darted to Henderson who was trying to figure to deduce what her words meant.
"First I come here and meet an unknown lady in Itzel's room who goes ahead to introduce herself as Itzel's nanny after treating me with so much disrespect, and now I get to know that she has a son and he attends Itzel's school," Alia spoke in rapid succession before she paused for a breath and then she continued.
"Henderson, let me guess you are paying the boy's fees, aren't you? We both know the nanny doesn't seem to have class so there is no way she can afford the fees. Since when did you start to run a poverty alleviation scheme, and why didn't I know that you got a new nanny for Itzel?" When Alia was done speaking her vile words she staved her gaze off Henderson to Lena.
"Paupers don't belong here, " she grunted leering at Lena like she was her arch enemy whose downfall she could go to any length to attain.
"Alia, " A frown smudged Henderson's face. He knew how his sister could be she could be so insensitive and insensible with her words all in the name of looking out for him and Itzel and he hated that a lot. He had told her on several occasions that he wasn't the little boy she watched grow anymore he was a grown man and could make sure of his and Itzel's wellbeing without her interference.
Lena inhaled looking downwards Alia's word had pricked her heart, the woman was judging her without getting to know her and it hurt.
"Itzel, Trent let's go upstairs so you can change out of your uniform and then have something to eat, " Lena said smiling at Itzel and Trent who had a dulled-up expression. Despite the fact that Itzel wasn't a fan of Trent she didn't like the way her aunt spoke to Lena.
"Trent, Itzel follow Lena upstairs, " Henderson stated seeing that they didn't move an inch when Lena spoke earlier.
They nodded and together with Lena, they sauntered upstairs.
"What is wrong with you Alia? What I choose to do with my money is my business, you have no right to talk to Lena that way. You don't even know her and about Lena treating you with disrespect from the show you put up now I know better than to believe your words." Henderson rasped when Lena and the kids were out of sight.
Alia sneered in annoyance folding her arms across her chest and then she took her seat.
"So much for a Nanny, Henderson. You choose to take the side of that pathetic lady over a sister who has always been there for you and is only looking out for you."
A sigh left Henderson's lips, now his sister was blackmailing him emotionally, that was a card she played well. Reminding him that she was his only sister.
"Do you even know anything about the lady? Is she married? How does she even have a child? What if she plans to trap you in her web and use...."
"Alia, I think it's high time I go up to my room now. If you weren't here I would have gone back to the office but since I met you here that will be a regrettable decision, who knows what more demeaning words you would say to Lena in my absence?" Henderson cut Alia off.
A moment of silence ensued before Alia's snicker filled the room.
"I'm still trying to merge things and come to an understanding of your unrelenting support for that Lena. It almost seems like she is your wife, not your daughter's Nanny," her lips curled up in disdain as she spoke about Lena.
"I'll just go upstairs and freshen up, you should get some rest."
Alia scoffed, she knew what her brother's words meant. It was his way of saying he was no longer interested in having that conversation with her.
Henderson took about three steps before he paused and veered to face Alia.
"You of all people should know better than calling people trashy names and insulting them without giving them a chance. You should fix your mistakes, and apologise to Lena. She is a kind lady, she'll forgive you." With that Henderson swirled around and trudged to his room.
Alia huffed as she watched Henderson's retreating figure till he was out of sight. There was no way in the world that she was going to stoop so low and apologise to Lena after all in her eyes she hadn't done wrong, she was only stating the obvious.
...........
.....
When it was time for dinner, Lena was sceptical about joining them at the dining table shows since Alia was going to be there and she knew receiving insults and degrading remarks from her was inevitable. Sooner she had told Itzel and Trent to go downstairs for dinner and she was going to join them soon.
Letting out a breath she decided to let go of her thoughts and head downstairs for dinner, not showing up at the table wasn't the best idea. It was going to make it look like she was making a fuss.
Lena greeted Henderson and then Alia who didn't respond when she got to the dining area. She pulled out a chair and just as she settled on it Alia's voice came.
"Don't tell me the Nanny also joins the dining for breakfast. I was going to talk about her son being here and she shows up as well. Let's do something why don't we call the maids, and all the workers to join us as well, " Alia's voice dripped with sarcasm as she looked down at Lena with intense dislike.
Lena broke eye contact even though she was trying to put her temper in check Alia's words and looks were making it too hard.
Alia chuckled forcing Lena to peer at her, "Looks like you are about to lose that kind pretentious facade you've managed to deceive my brother with but I assure you that it would never work on...."
"Alia, " Henderson's cold tone stopped Alia from completing her statement.
"I'll just go eat in my room, " Lena mumbled lowly as she strutted from her seat.
"I'll come with you Mommy, " Trent uttered getting up as well and so did Itzel.
"Me too."
Alia's sucked her teeth and her mouth twisted in anger when she realised her niece was on Lena's side.
"I'm sorry Lena, take your sit kids. No one is leaving." Henderson apologised with pressed lips. His eyes darkened when they meandered to Alia.
"Fine you just do what you want miss goody two shoes, " Alia sighed in annoyance.
"I'm just looking out for you Henderson, if you had listened to me you would never have ended up a divorcee or even gotten married to that..."
"You know what, I'll just head out. I just hope that by the time I'm back, you'll be mindful of your choice of words, " Henderson seethed getting off his chair, he picked up his phone and was about to walk away when Itzel called him.
"Daddy, are you leaving?" Her brows knitted and a sad expression crawled up her face.
"I'll be back soon Itzel, " he smiled taking steps to her he placed a kiss on her cheeks.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to..." Alia started.
"It doesn't matter, " Henderson chipped in with a stern voice before he scooted away. Guilt washed through Alia, she knew how much he hated talking about his divorce and Itzel's yet her hatred for Lena made her bring that up.
