Chapter 80— The Call!
"What did you do to Irene?" Henderson's forehead knitted, and his pupils flared as they roamed Brian.
Henderson just stepped into the living room and was surprised to see the bad blood between his best friend and Irene evident from the death stare she was throwing at him.
"Her phone's screen cracked because of.."
"Crack? You call this a crack, the screen has been shattered!" Irene chided. She cackled before she continued to speak.
Angered, Irene's eyes loured Brian, "Henderson, how do you and Lena even know this guy, a lost lunatic!"
Brian's countenance changed hearing Irene call him a lunatic.
"I should be asking them that question. How come you both know this crazy lady?" Brian retorted turning to Lena and Henderson.
A sigh left Henderson's lips, " You guys started up on the wrong foot and I think we can fix that. Irene this is Brian my best friend, Brian this is Irene Lena's sister." He introduced.
Irene crumpled with a scowl, " You mean the best friend, owner of the Gomez group of companies. Here I was actually thinking about applying for the job opportunity you told me about. I'm so fortunate that I haven't even...."
Brian's mocking laughter made Irene stop talking.
"You haven't even applied, I would never have employed you, to begin with. You are so I'll mannered and it makes me doubt if you are really Lena's sister."
Brian glanced at Lena, " Are you sure your family didn't take her in just so she could have refuge..."
"Don't you dare bring Lena into this!" Irene warned pointing her finger at him.
"Stop being a baby because of a phone. I can get you a factory if you want, " Brian shrugged arrogantly. This gesture of Brian's annoyed Irene to the core. She hated proud people who thought they could always get away with whatever they had done simply because they had money.
"I don't need anything from you. Why don't you put your money to good use? Go for a rehabilitation for an arrogant irksome personality change, that's if it would do any good because your personality is rotten beyond chances of coming back to originality and that's if you weren't born a jerk!" Cleo fired.
Brian's jaw slacked, his lips set in a hard line and he gazed at Irene with narrowed eyes.
"What!" He sputtered.
Irene scoffed, " Are you going to play the pity card here or act victim? I'm aware that you know how horrible your personality is. You are..."
"Irene! That's uncalled for."
Irene would have continued if Lena hadn't cut her off.
"Lena, I'm just..."
Lena reached for Irene's hand and pulled her with her when she saw that Irene was unwilling to keep quiet.
"Did you really have to say all those words to Brian?" Lena questioned letting go of Irene's hand when they were away from the living room.
AT THE LIVING ROOM....
Henderson's icy glare paraded Brian once Lena and Irene were no longer in the room.
"Brian, what is wrong with you? Why couldn't you just apologise after ruining her phone?"
"I was going to but then I asked her who she was and she just stormed off." Brian sighed.
"You are lucky she didn't give you a slap. Why would you even ask her that when you were supposed to apologise to her?" Henderson scowled.
Brian shot him a glare, "You are such an amazing friend laughing at my misery. Did you hear the names she called me? "
Henderson shrugged his shoulders, a mischievous smile crept on his face.
"Well, I wasn't the one who was boasting about his wealth when I was speaking to her."
Brian raised a brow at Henderson's statement perplexed by it.
"When did I do that?"
"Oh, you forgot so soon. What did you mean when you said you could get her a factory of phones? And the talk about not employing her."
Brian puffed a breath, he did say that but in his defence, he only said that in a fit of rage. He wasn't the person to brag about his wealth.
"I did say that but I didn't mean it. What do I do? You have to help me."
Henderson scoffed wriggling his head, " And why should I help you? Was I the one who felt too big to apologise?"
"I like Irene. It's love at first sight, I was awestruck by her that was why I asked her that crazy question."
Henderson burst out laughing the moment he heard Brian's words but he paused when he saw Brian's serious face.
"Love at first sight? You better not try any of those playboy tricks with Irene."
"I wouldn't dare, Lena would kill me."
"Before she Lena does, I will," Henderson warned pointing his finger at Brian.
Henderson laughed mockingly before withdrawing his hand.
"Before you start to talk about love at first sight you better find a way to pacify Irene because for her I think it is hate at first sight."
"Babe, " Henderson smiled wrapping his arms around Lena the moment he saw her. He left Brian and came in search of Lena.
"Who would have thought Irene and Brian would meet the way they did?" Henderson chuckled.
Lena's lips pressed together, " I feel for Brian. Irene overreacted, that was what I told her. She's just too stubborn, she still insists Brian was at fault."
"I think she is right. An apology would have stopped all of this from happening. They would probably have been friends but he didn't so he has to deal with it. You know what Brian has to fix the mess he created."
"Did Irene tell you why she didn't show up earlier?" Concerned marred Henderson's countenance.
"My mom locked her up in the house and switched up her phone that was why we couldn't reach her."
Henderson's face contorted in a frown, " That's extreme."
Lena smiled sadly, " it is and I feel bad for Irene. She has said she won't be living there anymore once she gets a place for herself and I agree because my mom has crossed a lot of boundaries and she does seem to care."
"Yeah, Irene can come stay here for as long as she wants."
Lena and Henderson got engaged with their friends and family cheering for them. Lena told Irene about Henderson's offer and she was really grateful. After the party, Irene went over to her mom's place luckily for her her mom wasn't back yet so she just took her stuff and left.
It was four weeks before Lena's and Henderson's wedding. Brian did all he could to get on Irene's good books but it didn't seem to be enough the first impression he made left a huge impact that she just thought he was pretending to be sorry. He even got Irene a new phone as a replacement but she rejected it.
"Irene I think Brian likes you, " Cleo grinned winking at Irene.
"You are mistaken, I hate Brian, " Irene uttered with a grimace, her upper lip raised slightly in scorn.
At the moment there was no one she disliked as much as Brian, she felt he was too arrogant in speech.
"Hate is a strong word, " Lena cautioned.
"You should just forgive him already. He has apologised a lot of times." Cleo sighed.
Lena nodded in agreement, " Yeah, it was just a phone he didn't kill anyone."
"I hold nothing against him but I want nothing to do with him." Irene insisted.
Lena made to say something but her phone started to ring, she sprang up from the couch and sauntered to the table which the phone was on.
Her eyes crinkled when she stared at the screen an unknown number was calling her.
"Hello, who is this?" She questioned after picking up the call.
The phone fell out of Lena's hand, her eyes welled up with tears after receiving a response from the other end.
'No!' She cried with trembling lips.
"What happened, Lena?" Cleo and Irene asked in unison scooting to her.
