Chapter 35—#Derlena
Lena didn't know why Henderson's sudden laughter annoyed her. When Henderson saw the scowl on Lena's face he stopped laughing.
"Lena doesn't have a boyfriend, " he stated with a shrug answering Cleo's question.
Cleo was well aware of that but she just wanted to get Henderson to be jealous and see that he might lose Lena if he kept bottling up his feelings for her.
Lena was surprised as to how confident and sure he was that she didn't have a boyfriend but she couldn't blame it on him, if she had a boyfriend she would never have agreed to be his plus one to the ceremony maybe that was how he came to his conclusions.
"Daddy, can I have a boyfriend?" Itzel asked abruptly with a wide smile on her face making everyone turn to her. Henderson's face turned sour.
"No, you are too little for that," Henderson said in a firm tone.
Itzel sighed tapping on her nose, "Well, I already have a lot of boyfriends."
"What!" Henderson's eyes narrowed and his tone was stern.
"Calm down, Henderson. I don't think it's what you are thinking, " Lena interfered chuckling and Henderson's expression softened.
Lena veered to Itzel, "I guess you mean you have a lot of boys who are your friends, right?"
"Yes, " Itzel nodded and Henderson soughed in relief making Cleo laugh.
Itzel's brows puckered as she gazed at her father, "what did Daddy think I meant?"
"Your Daddy, he thought that you were talking about a guy you like maybe love. So, he got worried since you are still little and boyfriends are for girls or ladies who are older and mature." Lena explained but that didn't take the puckered brows on Itzel's face away this time her eyes shifted from her father to Lena.
"Then why don't you have one? Or is my Daddy your boyfriend?" Itzel mumbled and Lena almost choked on the glass of juice she was drinking.
"Itzel that's enough." Henderson cautioned before he turned to Cleo.
"What have you been telling her?"
Cleo's expression dulled at the accusation, "What! Me! Kids always have questions and they are not blind you know."
"Even the kids can see that you both like each other but you two can't?" Cleo grumbled under her breath but Henderson and Lena heard her and she earned a glare from both of them.
"What?" She frowned since their icy glares were yet to leave her.
Henderson shook his head before averting his gaze from Cleo. He and Lena exchanged glances but she looked away and continued to eat her food like she didn't hear that.
Later That Day....
"Henderson Bain's new girlfriend is super hot!" Cleo read out giggling.
She turned to Lena who stared at her with a blank expression. Cleo chuckled and then she continued.
"Here is another sweet comment. Seeing the look in Henderson's eyes and the smile on his face when he dedicated the award to Lena made me feel butterflies, he loves her so much. Maybe they are not just friends as said. Or maybe he hasn't told her how he feels yet, I wish I was Lena right now."
By the time Cleo was done reading the comment, she turned to see Lena seated beside her.
"Listen to this one, I think Lena should be a supermodel because her beauty is out of this world. Girl, you've got a lot of fans now. " Cleo beamed.
"Oh wow! This hashtag is trending, #Derlena."
Lena arched her brows in confusion wondering what the so said hashtag meant that was making Cleo look at her with a mischievous smile plastered on her face.
"What has that got to the with me?" Lena shrugged.
"A lot, it's a couple name yours and Henderson's fans chose for you and Henderson. Henderson plus Lena equals Derlena, they had many like Henlena, Lenason, Lender, Derna but #Derlena won, " Cleo explained.
Lena burst out laughing.
"That's ridiculous and stop calling them my fans, I'm not some kind of celebrity or something."
"Well now you are, get used to it." Cleo chortled.
"Henderson, you came at the right time. Have you seen the headlines and the latest trends?"
Cleo mumbled when Henderson walked into the living room, confusion marred his face as he peered at Cleo. He failed to understand what her words meant, he wasn't really a social media person.
"See for yourself, " Cleo got off the couch and handed over her phone to Henderson.
"#Derlena." Henderson glanced at Lena, it was an awkward exchange of glances between them.
When Henderson was done reading all he could he returned Cleo's phone to her and started to head upstairs.
"Where are you going? You are just going to leave like that. Henderson!" Cleo whined.
She called after him but he didn't even bother to spare her a glance.
"Gosh, you guys are so boring!" Cleo whined gawking at Lena before she plopped on the couch.
Lena's eyes widened and she let out a small laugh," What did I do wrong now?"
Cleo was going to say something but she didn't when Lena's phone rang.
An enunciated sigh left Lena's lips when she saw who the caller was, it was her sister Irene. She excused herself to answer the call.
Lena: Hey sis, How have you been?
Irene: Lena since when did you decide to shut me out of your life?
Lena's brows furrowed in confusion as she wondered what Irene meant by that.
Lena: What are you talking about? When did I do that?
Irene: Why didn't you tell me that you are dating Henderson Bain?
Lena huffed, so this was what Irene's whining was about? She should have known from the beginning that this was going to come up after she spoke with Matteo earlier.
Lena: Don't tell me that you are also one of those people who believe the rumours. Matteo told you, didn't he?
Irene: Don't blame it on him, moreover the news is all over social media and even on TV. I just wanted to hear it from you myself. Are you dating your boss?
Lena: No, I'm not!
Irene: Do you have feelings for him?
Lena kept silent for a while as she tried to comprehend the questions that kept coming in from Irene without even a pause before she finally answered.
Lena: No I don't.
Irene chuckled and Lena could trace the mischief in her voice.
Irene: Then why did it take so long for you to answer the final question? Well even though you don't want to admit your feelings I know one thing for sure. Your boss likes you, initially, I thought he was just being nice like you said, but think about all the things he has done for you and Trent. Remember, you told me that he gave you an advance payment when you started working and when he was supposed to pay you at the end of the month, he didn't even deduct that. Also, he is paying Trent's fees and...
Lena: You know what I have something to do, take care! Bye.
Lena interrupted Irene and hung up immediately after she was done talking before Irene could say anything else.
She puffed a breath and shook her head in wonder at her sister's words. Cleo wouldn't let her be with her endless talk, Matteo as well and now it was her sister. 'But just like Irene had said Henderson was being way too nice to her. Could it be that....'
"The boss has called for you, " Lena heard a voice say to her which jolted her out of her thoughts.
She swirled swiftly, one of the house workers was standing in front of her.
"Ok. Please where is he?" She asked.
"In his room, " the worker muttered before ambling away.
Lena headed to Henderson's room, as she walked she couldn't help but wonder what it was he wanted to talk to her about.
