Chapter 13— Why?
"Didn't you say you weren't coming to the bar today?"Brian arched his brows taking his sit beside Henderson who was gulping down a glass of whiskey. Henderson and Brian were best friends and business partners, They were both CEOs aside from that, one thing that they both had in common was that they were both playboys, flirting with any lady that seemed to catch their eyes maybe that was one of the reasons they got along so well.
"Dude I had to, Alia came, " Henderson sighed pouring himself some whiskey into the empty glass.
Brian chuckled making Henderson glare at him and immediately he kept a straight face.
"Did she talk about you getting married again?"
"No, " Henderson shook his head.
"I didn't even know she was coming and she was just hurling insults at Lena, and when I tried to caution her she brought up the talk about Itzel's mom about how I would have never been a divorcee if I listened to her, that doesn't even make sense, " Henderson exhaled chugging the contents of the glass in one go.
Brian looked at Henderson with crinkled eyes, "I'm confused. I don't get what the problem is, it seems to me like you are actually worried about the things Alia said to Lena than the whole talk about your ex-wife aren't you?"
"Telling you was a waste of time, you never understand anything, " Henderson hissed taking his gaze off Brian. His eyes caught a lady who was dancing in the middle of the room with another lady.
Brian traced Henderson's eyes and when he saw that it was on the lady, a mischievous smile tugged his lips.
"You want her?" Brian questioned and at that moment Henderson staved his eyes off the lady. Suddenly the promise he made to Lena rang in his ears about avoiding anything that was going to affect Itzel or Trent negatively due to his promiscuous lifestyle. Even though he was at a bar and could do whatever he want he didn't know why he was feeling some kind of guilt like he was cheating or breaking a commitment.
"No, " Henderson bobbed his head when he saw that Brian didn't take his gaze off him.
"Your eyes say otherwise, you look starved. When last did you get a good fuck? If I can remember you've not hung out with me at the bar for weeks, " Brian frowned.
"You are crazy."
Brian chuckled taking the bottle of whiskey from Henderson who shot him a glare immediately.
"Give me that."
Brian laughed showing his one-sided dimple which he referred to as his charm which ladies couldn't resist.
"That look doesn't scare me neither does your voice, Henderson Bain. Quit drinking it's time to have some fun." Brian winked and before Henderson could say a word he dashed away.
Henderson huffed shaking his head and then he took hold of the bottle of whiskey, this time he didn't bother pouring it into the glass he just gulped it down directly from the container.
"This is my friend..."
"Henderson Bain, the CEO, " Brian didn't get to finish the introduction because one of the ladies he returned with screamed with ecstasy drawing attention from those present in the bar and Henderson as well who placed the bottle on the table in front of him before he turned to them.
Brian smiled watching the lady giggle with excitement after all his friend was the man, the talk of the town. He had gotten used to losing all attention whenever Henderson was in sight.
"Sit, " Brian smiled at the lady who regained her composure when Henderson glazed at her with puckered brows before he averted his gaze.
Brian beckoned the other lady who was beside him to take her sit as well and they started a conversation. Brian was interested in the lady right from when he set his eyes on her on the dance floor well not for a relationship or anything else but for a fling probably a one-night stand. The lady was his type, curvy had a pretty face and was sexy.
Henderson on the other hand didn't seem interested in the lady who couldn't muster the courage to talk to him after the cold glare she had gotten from Henderson when she called his name earlier
"Baby, " the lady beside Henderson called wrapping her arms around his neck.
"We'll leave you two, " Brian smirked as he held the hands of the lady who was seated beside him and they stood up from the couch.
He left before Henderson could say a word. He misunderstood the whole thing since he thought that Henderson was acting all tough and hard to get like he did most of the time.
"Are you crazy?" The lady withdrew her arms quickly from Henderson when his cold husky voice glazed with grim filled her ears.
"Fuck off."
The lady straightened herself up like she was pricked by a thorn before she scooted away.
"Henderson, why would you do that?" Brian groaned in annoyance as he stood in front of Henderson who was staring into thin air.
"Don't act like you can't hear me because I know you can, " Brian groaned and Henderson burst out laughing and then he veered in Brian's direction before he kept a straight face.
"What is your problem, Brian? I didn't stop you from fucking around did I?"
Brian exhaled before he plopped beside Henderson.
"How can I have fun knowing full well that my best friend is a mess and getting himself wasted with alcohol instead of having fun?"
"It was nice hanging out with you bro, I'm going to head home. My daughter is waiting for me, " Henderson mumbled standing to his feet.
"I'm starting to wonder why you've been acting this way for weeks. This isn't about Alia or Itzel is it? It's about Lena, right? You are in love with her? I didn't see that coming." Brian said with a taunting smile.
"Right? Just the way I didn't see you losing your sense of reasoning coming?" Henderson mocked and Brian's expression turned sour.
"Here's my card, pay for our drinks, " Henderson muttered stretching his debit card to Brian.
"That's kind of insulting, I already paid. I get it you are the big deal but it doesn't mean I can't afford our drinks, " Brian feigned a pained voice.
Henderson chortled shaking his head, "Remind me again how are we friends? You are such a whiny baby."
"That's why you love me, isn't it?" Brian shrugged as he rose from the couch.
"I'll drive you home, " Brian said as he trailed after Henderson who took a halt when he heard him.
"Why? I can drive myself I'm not a kid. I don't need you to be my chauffeur." "
"That's a shade, I have a driver but it doesn't make me a kid, " Brians folded his arms rolling his eyes at Henderson.
"You are a kid, you know that," Henderson states with a shrug.
"Whatever. I'm still driving you home. I don't mind being your chauffeur if it means you being alive and your love story with Lena blossom, " Brian smiled and Henderson smacked him on the shoulder.
"I think you've lost it." Henderson looked at Brian with pity shaking his head before walking away. Brian laughed running after him.
Brian insisted on driving Henderson home and no words from Henderson could make him change his mind, so Henderson just let him. Brian's chauffeur drove his car while Brian drove Henderson's car.
Just as Henderson closed the door to the living room after he had entered Lena's voice almost made him flinch if he hadn't gotten a hold of himself. Earlier when he stepped in, he didn't notice her presence.
"I'm sorry sir. I didn't mean to startle you, " Lena apologised when she saw his reaction.
"It's fine, I wasn't startled, " he lied. He couldn't imagine admitting that he almost flinched because he heard her voice.
"Where are the rest?" Henderson asked bringing an end to the abrupt silence that took over the room.
"They are asleep."
Henderson's eyes didn't leave Lena's face as he scrutinised them as if he was in search of something leaving Lena to wonder what was going through his mind.
"Why didn't you go to bed?" He asked when Lena looked away.
"I was waiting for you," Lena answered peering at him and she watched his brows crease.
"Why?"
