Chapter 93—Hate To Love
"Did Brian tell you?" Brighton questioned as he lifted his head to peek at Henderson.
"No, " Henderson shook his head.
"That is not the answer to my question, is Lena the lady?"
Brighton turned to the side and cussed himself, what was he thinking when he told Lena? That was so foolish of him, but when he thought about it thoroughly he concluded that it was not Lena's fault, his reaction gave him out. There was no need to walk out of the living room the way he did, he acted like a jealous puppy.
"Brighton, I need an answer," Henderson stated, this time in a higher tone.
Brighton swallowed the lump that seemed to have formed in his throat and turned swiftly to face Henderson.
He nodded, " Yes, she is."
Henderson took a deep breath and came to stand in front of Brighton.
"Brian knows, why didn't you tell me?"
Brighton hoisted his head, his eyes narrowed in disbelief as he peeked at Henderson and he chuckled.
"This is a joke right?"
"No, " Henderson kept a straight face.
"Did you expect me to come say, Henderson, your fiancee is the girl I've been in love with for years?" Brighton's voice was heavy with sarcasm and a ting of pain could be felt from his voice.
"Right." Henderson sighed.
"I'm sorry, Henderson. I didn't wish for this to happen and I really feel bad that this is happening. I spent every single day wishing that I would one day meet her but now that I have and seeing the situation of things I wish I never had that wish. It hurts and.."
Henderson patted Brighton's shoulder comfortingly and shook his head making him catch his breath and put an end to his statement.
"You did no wrong here, you don't need to apologise. I'm sorry that this is happening, I know how much you've wanted to meet with that girl." Henderson's voice exuded concern.
"It's fine. It is not your fault. I'm just going to get rid of these feelings no matter how hard it is. You don't have to feel pity for me. It just makes me feel pathetic, aren't you mad?" Brighton arched a brow at Henderson.
"Mad? Is there a reason to be mad? I would be a selfish and inconsiderate jerk if I'm mad at you because of this." Henderson's lips pressed together, and he wrapped his arms around Brighton hugging him taking Brighton by surprise but he reciprocated the hug before pulling away from Henderson.
"I have to get going, I need to go over to the company and see how things are going since my takeover is happening soon. Bye." Brighton mumbled and dashed away before Henderson could say anything else to him.
Henderson was very much convinced that going over to the company was just an excuse for Brighton, he just wanted to be out of sight and Henderson couldn't blame him he figured it was best not to bug him. He was just going to let Brighton process things and get over it in his own time. But he felt a bit hurt that Brian and Brighton kept it away from him, did they really think he was going to get mad because of it?
Henderson breathed deeply, and with his hands tucked into his pockets, he went back into the living room and headed upstairs to meet Lena.
"Darling, are you ok? Where is Brighton?" Lena's face turned pale with worry when she locked eyes with Henderson when he walked into the room.
Henderson forced a smile on his face, " Brighton? He left, he said he had some things to do."
"Oh. But you didn't answer my first question, are you okay? You seem worried about something." Lena's voice was soft with affection, she cupped Henderson's face as her eyes scrutinised it.
Henderson's lips curved in a smile, " I'm just a bit stressed."
"Stressed? Do you want a massage?"
"No, I'll be fine. Wait a massage? Yes, I would love that." Henderson's face brightened as Lena's words rang in his head. He was quick to answer without even processing her words first.
Lena chuckled seeing the happy smile on his face, " But you already said you'll be fine so I don't think that the massage will be needed."
"Babe, then I didn't hear you."
"I see, I'll just call you a masseuse." A grin grew across Lena's face and she made to grab her phone but Henderson stopped her.
His brows furrowed slightly and his lips were in a pout, " A masseuse? I thought you were going to do it yourself."
"Myself? No" Lena's brows knitted together and she wriggled her head.
Henderson's expression dulled up and it took a lot of effort from Lena to stop herself from laughing at the look on his face.
"Oh, that was what you thought? Hence your excitement, " Lena teased.
"Have a sit then, " She smiled lovingly, leaning closer she kissed him before pointing to the bed after breaking the kiss.
"Sit, for your shoulder massage."
Henderson's visage was etched with disappointment and he did little to hide it.
"A shoulder massage?"
"I might as well change my mind?" Lena folded her arms around her chest waiting for him to sit.
"Ok," Henderson muttered plopping on the couch hurriedly making Lena erupt into laughter.
Irene came back to the house that evening with some good news, she was able to secure a job after her interview but she wasn't going to resume until after the wedding.
Brian came over shortly after Brighton's departure, Henderson told him that he got to know at first Brian was troubled but was super relieved when he got to know that Henderson wasn't pissed about it.
The next day Irene expressed how surprised she was to Lena about finding out that Brighton was going to be taking over the company she just got a job in.
When Brian got to know that Irene got a job in Brighton's company he didn't hide how he truly felt about it. He had offered Irene a job at his company but she turned it down saying she wasn't interested in working for him.
Brighton froze in his tracks, his orbs bulged out and his jaw slacked when he took in the sight of Brian and Irene kissing. It was a shell shocker totally unexpected! A few minutes back in the living room they just had an argument throwing jibes at each other and expressing how much they hated each other. Irene stormed out of the living room and Brian did as well. Brighton's phone rang, it was a call from the office and he had excused himself to go outside and pick it up when he saw the rivals locking lips.
"Hate to love!" Brighton gasped.
His voice made Irene and Brian pull away from each other.
"What are you doing here?" Brian's face twisted in a scowl and he glared at Brighton.
