Chapter 37—The Unexpected Person!
Henderson left for his business trip a day ago, he made it known to Cleo, Lena, Trent, and Lena that he was going to be back in five days. Cleo decided to stay back at the mansion till Henderson returned since her husband was out of town and she was tired of staying home all by herself.
"Where are you guys? Let's get going so you don't go to school late." Lena hollered.
Lena had already packed Trent's and Itzel's lunch, she waited for Cleo to come downstairs with the kids after they ran upstairs saying they had forgotten something but they never showed up. Lena puffed a breath when she didn't get a response and made to go upstairs just then Cleo emerged from the stairs with Itzel and Trent trailing behind her.
"Cleo, this was the same thing you three did yesterday and it almost made them go late to school. And now you are encouraging them to redo the acts again, " Lena frowned.
"I'm sorry. I just had to get the cookies, Chocolate, chips, candies.." Cleo would have continued with the listing if Lena didn't chip in.
"Cleo at this rate, these kids might end up with a stomach upset one of these days. You are giving them too much sugar, and I'm guessing if they ask to stop for some ice cream on the way to school you'll give in?" Lena chided with her hands placed on her hips.
Cleo said nothing she just chuckled and exchanged glances with Trent and Itzel after which they burst out laughing.
When Cleo saw how serious Lena was from her straight countenance. She stopped laughing, cleared her throat, and peered at Lena gesturing for Trent and Itzel to keep quiet.
"Lena, you don't look very ok. Remember you also said you were having a headache? You don't have to follow us, I can drop the kids off so you can rest."
"Yes, you should rest Aunt Lena, right Trent?" Itzel nodded turning to Trent.
"Yes Mommy, you should rest, " Trent smiled.
"I get it that you all care about me, I'm grateful but why do I feel like you all are up to something and don't want me to know about it?" Lena asked with raised brows her eyes darted from Trent to Itzel and then they settled on Cleo.
"I'm going with you guys and that's final."
"Really? You are not coming with us, don't you think you need to go to the hospital? If you refuse to stay home and rest then you give me no choice but to call Henderson right away and tell him that you are sick but still want to work, " Cleo shrugged with a Cheshire cat grin smeared on her face.
"Seriously Cleo, Blackmail?" Lena sighed
"You left me no choice, " Cleo said in a dramatic tone which got Itzel and Trent laughing.
"Fine, you can take them but please I beg of you don't condone or push their excesses, you don't have to yield to every of their request especially when it would have an aftermath."
"Sure, as you say." Cleo saluted making Lena chuckle at the dramatic response.
Lena shook her head, "You are such a drama queen."
"I know, " Cleo laughed.
Cleo left with the kids after Lena handed over their lunch to her.
Lena's head was banging so hard, she tried her best to hide how severe the headache was from Cleo, Trent, and Itzel so they wouldn't get worried. Last night, she ended up having the nightmare again, this time it was more serious that she had to take her meds and as usual she was unable to go back to bed.
The nightmare was taking a toll on her and she started to see the reason why she had to seek medical care, see a therapist, or something like that. Matteo had suggested that to her in the past but she never listened. When he kept ringing in her ears about how important it was for her to get help, she lied that the nightmares had stopped.
Lena felt a bit of relief when she managed to get some sleep and woke up feeling a lot better. The headache had reduced even though she still felt the tingling pain it wasn't as severe as it was earlier.
Lena sauntered downstairs after she checked the time and saw that it was already noon, she knew Cleo must have returned a long time ago.
"You are awake, " Cleo smiled taking her attention off the TV when she heard footsteps and turned. It was Lena who emerged from the stairs.
"Yes, you should have woken me up when you got back," Lena muttered as she took her seat beside Cleo who made room for her.
Cleo pursed her lips and wriggled her head.
"That would be very bad of me, see how exhausted you look even after sleeping. You don't look very well, you look pallid. Don't you think it's best if you go to a hospital? Your eyes are puffy seems like you haven't been getting enough sleep lately. How's the headache?"
Lena smiled, "I'm usually like this after a nap. I'm good now. Moreover, the headache is gone, " Lena lied. She knew that if she didn't say that to convince Cleo, Cleo was going to insist that Lena goes to the hospital which was one of the places she hated the most.
"So what are you watching?"
Seeing the look on Cleo's face that interpreted that she wasn't convinced enough by Lena's response, Lena decided to deflect.
"Loving you is my oxygen, join me. It's a must-watch, you'll enjoy it. " Cleo giggled before returning her eyes to the TV.
"Title speaks Romance, " Lena wore a wan expression.
"It is, " Cleo nodded taking a quick glance at Lena before her eyes went back to being glued to the TV.
"I'll pass, " Lena puffed making Cleo turn to her.
"As a romance lover, I'm offended, " Cleo whined pressing her lips together.
Lena smiled, "Don't be. No offense if I had a chance to get rid of a genre it would be romance."
"Bad past? Or scared of love?" Cleo's voice came with concern. She had always wanted to ask Lena that question because whenever love or romance was brought up Lena becomes awkward.
Lena forced a laugh just to avoid the question.
"Romance might be real but it isn't just my thing. "
Hours Later......
"I can't believe you insisted on coming with me, you should have just rested at home, " Cleo sighed as she and Lena stepped out of the car.
"I told you it's nothing to worry about, I'm good." Lena smiled.
Cleo opened her mouth to say something but paused when her eyes caught something.
"Isn't that..." Cleo couldn't complete her statement she just kept pointing in the direction her eyes were in.
When Lena noticed how lost Cleo was, she looked at the path Cleo's eyes were fixed at.
"Axel!" She gasped.
Axel was standing with Trent and Itzel, they laughed when Axel said something to them.
'No this can't be happening!' Lena shook her head, her muscle tensed as she tried to control her breath. She felt as though a giant boulder was pressing her chest, making it difficult for her to breathe.
