Chapter 84— A Miracle?
"All of this has been happening and none of you told me about it?" An exasperated sigh left Alia's lips and she buried her face in her palms.
"Are you saying you know nothing about this?" Lena lifted a brow at Alia. She found Alia's words difficult to believe, It was because of Alia that Kyra came into their lives.
"You think I'm lying? I'm not. Ever since the last time you and Henderson came here and he cut off ties with me, I never contacted Kyra." Alia let out.
Lena's eyes studied Alia's face trying to figure out if she was lying, but judging from the look on Alia's face, Lena was ready to give her the benefit of the doubt. After all, there wasn't anyone else she could go to aside from Alia at the moment.
At first, she told Lena to go away but when she told Alia that the reason she came over to her place had to do with Henderson, Alia let her in.
Alia lifted her head to gaze at Lena.
"How come? I didn't get any news about this. I mean Henderson is really popular. I'm surprised I didn't see this in the news or even on social media?"
"That's because we did our very best to keep it away from the public. With all that has happened, we felt it was best to keep it away from the eyes of the public." Lena explained.
Alia leaned forward, her lips pressed together her mind gearing frantically.
"Ok, I'm a bit confused here. Why would you come to me for help?"
Lena's eyes crinkled, and an annoyed sigh erupted from her lips as she stared at Alia.
"Technically, you are part of the reason why all this is happening. You hired Kyra. And I'm surprised you are even asking this question. Henderson is your brother, you should try to help him, consider this a chance to rectify your wrongdoing." Lena started with a straight face.
Alia'a head hung low after hearing Lena's words, she turned to the other side avoiding eye contact with Lena. She was ashamed of her actions, she went as far as creating a mess in her brother's life just because she didn't like the lady he was in love with.
Henderson was the one person Alia loved in her life so much, they had just such an amazing brother-sister relationship until she started to feel she could control him and that was her worst mistake. Henderson was not a kid, he was a full-grown man but because she was so blinded by her ego and domineering personality she failed to respect that and now the consequences of her actions were poking her in the eye.
"Remember, Henderson cut all ties with me. He said we are no longer family. What can I do now? He doesn't even recognise you, I don't I will be of any help to better his condition." Alia inhaled, she wiped the tear that slid down her cheek before turning to face Lena.
"Just come with me to the mansion. Then we can worry about what next to do."
BACK AT THE MANSION...
"Alia, what are you doing here?" Cleo scowled springing up to her feet the minute Alia stepped into the living room after Lena did.
"I went over to meet her." Lena chipped in with a small smile walking over to where Cleo was.
Cleo's brows knitted together, " Why?"
Lena sighed, " You know why Cleo. I just thought that her presence would be of help?"
Cleo scoffed shaking her head, she didn't share that view with Lena. She felt Alia's presence was only going to complicate things.
"Help? She has rendered enough help to us already. Have you forgotten that we would probably have never gotten to meet Kyra and her cousin Greg if Alia didn't do what she did?" Cleo rasped.
"Greg is not her cousin."
Cleo's forehead creased and she pursed her lips.
"What do you mean? What are you trying to say?"
"I saw Kyra and Greg kissing." Lena let out.
There was a disarray of expressions on the faces of everyone present in the living room.
Cleo's face turned pallid as a result of colour draining out of her face, Brian was shell-shocked and Irene looked flabbergasted the people who wore different countenances were Matteo and Madam Carmen they didn't look a bit surprised that it seemed as though they were aware of the reveal Lena just made.
"What! Why are you just saying this?" Cleo eyes narrowed and she let out a breath.
"Sorry, " Lena sighed.
"Didn't you figure it out? From the way Greg and Kyra were always acting around each other, they acted more like couples than cousins." Matteo shrugged his shoulders.
"If they are dating then it means, Kyra doesn't actually love or want Henderson. She is up to something else, but what could it be?" Cleo drew a sharp breath plopping on the couch.
"We'll have to find out, we need to run a background check on those two. Maybe they have something against you and Henderson, I'm not sure but they can't be going through the hassle for nothing, there has to be a reason why they are doing this." Brian stated.
The others nodded in agreement, " Exactly my thoughts. Kyra and Greg have been acting very suspiciously since the very first day they stepped into this mansion. Poor Henderson, I feel so bad for him. He's just caught up in all of this now." Worry laced Madam Carmen's voice as she spoke.
"Where is Henderson?" Alia asked making everyone turn in her direction. It was the first time she said a word ever since she stepped into the room.
"That shouldn't be your concern. Your concern should be walking through that door and getting out of here!" Cleo seethed with anger evident in her voice. A simper marred her lips and then she pointed to the door.
Alia took a deep breath before turning to Lena, ignoring Cleo's words like she hadn't heard them.
"Lena, please can I see Henderson?"
Cleo cackled folding her arks across her chest, "Now you are going to ignore me, Cleo I love you. Henderson loves you but your controlling attitude matters more to you than we do. So why are you here acting like you care? Henderson wants to be with Lena but you were against it, you went as far as scheming behind his back just to get what you want and it's part of the consequence we have to deal with now."
Lena steps closer to Cleo, she places a hand on her shoulder.
"I know how you feel, Cleo. I understand your reason but can we just put that aside for now, she's here to help. I know we all want Henderson to get better so we have to be united."
"I'm not sure she wants that, " Cleo murmured harshly rolling her eyes at Alia.
Lena shook her head gazing at Cleo, who let out a sigh and then a nod.
"Fine, only because of you and because I really want an end to this. I want your wedding to happen badly, " Cleo smiled.
Lena chuckled, "Thank you Cleo but I think we should take things slow. The wedding is important but Henderson regaining his memory is more important, we all know he won't marry a stranger.."
Lena tried to laugh at her statement but it was just an effort to hide her sadness and everyone else could see it.
"It's going to be okay Lenny. We are here for you, " Matteo beamed warmly patting her on the shoulder.
"Yeah, we'll go through this together." Cleo cooed embracing Lena in a warm hug.
"If a blow to the head would be enough for Henderson to remember you, I actually don't mind. He is putting you through a lot, " Brian's voice came. He said the words in a funny tone that got everyone laughing, well except Irene who shot him a glare.
Brian exhaled the moment he noticed Irene's eyes on him.
"Oh, man! I'm guessing you have a problem with what I just said."
Irene faked a smile, "Thank goodness you noticed. A blow to the head, is it even the time for jokes right now?"
A smirk tugged the side of Brian's lips.
"Sweetheart, it's not my fault that you can't take a joke. Being this serious is only going to make you age faster."
Irene burst into a mocking laughter.
"At least I'm not the one who would be turning forty this year. I guess we all know who is ageing faster. And don't call me sweetheart" She retorted.
Brian gasped, a painful expression etched on his face.
"I'll be thirty this year, not forty." Brian corrected.
"Don't see the difference, " Irene shrugged nonchalantly.
"Right!I'm pretty sure you failed maths in High School, " Brian taunted.
"I guess you would know, I remember you were my maths teacher." Irene fired back and the room filled with laughter.
"You two are hilarious, what with the jibes? Is that your love language?" Cleo chuckled glancing at Irene who hissed when her eyes met Brian's.
"Brian, Irene. Is this some kind of love-hate relationship?" Madam Carmen teased.
"No way, you all love me too much to let me get into that." Brian chortled.
"Even if I'm unloved I don't hate myself. If I'm asked to choose between sleeping in a gutter for a week or getting into a relationship to save myself...."
"Irene, " Lena cautioned with a straight face cutting Irene off from completing the statement but Brian already knew what she was going to say.
"What, you should have just let me tell this guy the truth. Brian apparently thinks I'm one of those ladies who will flock around him."
A mischievous smile crept on Brian's face and he chortled.
"Ladies flocking around me, did someone look me up and get jealous?"
Cleo scoffed, "Jealous of what exactly? Your head which looks like a grapefruit?"
"A grapefruit?" Brian's lips curled up but soon a smile slipped on his face.
"I think that's a cute one, yours is like a square-shaped watermelon."
The room filled with laughter.
Irene's jaw slacked and she clenched her fist glowering at Brian who laughed enjoying the effect his words had on Irene.
"Irene I think you won the first round but Brian won the second round. So it's a tie." Cleo giggled clapping her hands dramatically.
"Come on, it's not helping, " Matteo mumbled.
"But it's funny, you laughed." Cleo chuckled.
She cleared her throat when she saw Madam Carmen's and Lena's serious gazes on her.
"Back to Henderson."
"Where is he? I need to go see him." Alia said.
"We know, " Cleo made a scrunched-up face.
"Henderson is upstairs, " Cleo uttered seeing the look on Matteo's face. It was a Are you really on this kind of look and she knew she just had to let Alia do her thing since everyone else wanted that.
"And what had that got to do with any of you?" Kyra's voice filled the room as she emerged from the stairs.
"Here she comes, " Cleo grumbled.
"How is that your business? You are not Henderson's babysitter, are you?"
Kyra mocked, "Of course not. I'm his fiancee."
Now it was Cleo's turn to laugh.
"You are such a devil. You belong in hell, " Cleo fumed her eyes crinkled with intense dislike as they dorked Kyra.
Kyra's lip drew back in a snarl," You all are the demons, not me."
Kyra raised her hand to smack Cleo in the face but Lena grabbed it tightly right in time before it could hit Cle on the face.
"I've had enough of your nonsense. Who the hell do you think you are? Where is your boyfriend Greg? I need to say something to him." Lena barked.
Kyra feigned ignorance, " Boyfriend? What are you talking about?"
Lena was furious, not only was Kyra a conspiring bitch, but she was also denying the truth. Lena slapped Kyra hard on the face and that made her stagger, she almost fell to the ground.
"How dare...."
Boom! The rest of the words never got to come out of Kyra's mouth because Lena's palm collided with Kyra's cheek once again. This time it was enough to make her fall to the ground.
"Kyra, I made you do what you did the first time. But now just get up and leave this place don't show your face here again." Alia yelled taking steps to Kyra who was on the floor.
Kyra laughed hysterically like a deranged human. "What makes you think I'm going to do what you say?"
"Irene, come let's grab her and lock her up." Cleo gestured to Irene who nodded in agreement smiling.
Kyra made to get off the ground that instant but Cleo stepped on her leg. She winced in pain but Cleo didn't seem to care. She grabbed Kyra's hand, now Irene had reached them she held the other hand and they dragged Kyra up.
"Hen.... der..." Kyra started to yell but Irene closed her mouth quickly.
"What's going on here?" Greg questioned rushing to Kyra, he just stepped into the living room and saw how Irene and Cleo were handling Kyra.
"Lena go upstairs with Aliyah. Tell him everything."
Lena was reluctant seeing that Greg had come and was taking steps to her.
"Go, Lenny, we'll handle him." Matteo declared.
"Yes, just go," Brian added reassuringly.
Lena nodded before turning to Alia who had now come to stand beside her.
"Let's go."
Alia nodded and together they ambled upstairs.
Lena drew in a breath as her knuckles tapped softly against Henderson's door. She prayed for a miracle to happen. She knew that hoping Henderson recognised Alia wasn't possible but it wasn't wrong to wish.
"Come in." His voice came from inside.
Lena pushed the door and stepped into the room.
A smile embraced Henderson's lips as he saw her, "Lena."
Lena smiled back, she felt that Henderson's eyes lit up the moment he saw her but at the same time she had doubts, what if it was just her thoughts?
Lena looked behind her and gestured for Alia to come in.
Lena watched recognition dawn Henderson's face the moment he beheld Alia.
"Alia!" Henderson called out.
'Was this for real? Did she hear clearly or?'
Lena turned to Alia and there was a smile on her face, she pinched herself so she could know if it was a dream or reality.
