Chapter 97—Let It Go!
"Here, I brought you guys a wedding present." Maya smiled gently stretching a package to Lena. Henderson stepped in before Lena could take the present from Maya.
"No one cares about your present, who even invited you to our wedding?" Henderson's eyes narrowed, his upper lip curling up in annoyance. He had no intention of listening to what Maya had to say at the moment, he just wanted her out of his sight.
Maya's eyes were downcast, she didn't dare to look at Henderson's whose orbs were blazing with fury as he peered at her.
Lena reached for Henderson's hand making him turn to her, his expression softened as their eyes met.
"Honey, calm down at least hear her out."
Henderson let out a sigh and nodded before averting his gaze from Lena to Maya.
"Be quick about it!"
Maya tilted her head slowly and swallowed before clearing her throat.
"Lena, Henderson I'm sorry. What I did to you guys was wrong. I realise my mistake and I'm sincerely sorry. Only now do I realise how stupid and crazy I acted, please forgive..."
"Are you done?" Henderson interrupted cutting her off.
"I believe you are done, you may leave now. We've heard all you have to say. Thanks for for coming uninvited but your absence would have been more appreciated." Henderson continued to speak refusing to give Maya a chance to say anything.
"The present, " Maya mumbled stretching the gift in her hand but Henderson gently shoved her hands away.
"You can do whatever you want..."
"You can keep it together with the other gift," Lena chipped in calmly offering Maya a small smile and stopping Henderson from completing his remark.
Maya returned the smile," Once again congratulations."
Henderson snorted, "We know it's not from your heart so you can get going."
Henderson didn't care that Maya heard the words he said, he just kept peering at her with a scowl on his face.
"Is that how you treat your friends?" Lena arched her brows and folded her arms across her chest as she gazed at Henderson.
Henderson shifted his gaze to Lena.
"She's not a friend. Don't tell me you think she has changed simply because she came here, told us congratulations, and faked an apology?" he questioned.
Lena sighed shaking her head, she couldn't understand why Henderson couldn't see that Maya was sincere in her apology. Maya did bad things to them in the past but she was sorry the least they could do was forgive her.
"if I can remember clearly you told me you and Maya are childhood friends."
"We used to be friends but not anymore. It was in the past, " Henderson reminded.
"Can't you just forgive her and let it go? She is sorry, she apologised what else do you want her to do before you see how sincere she is?" Lena muttered.
"I would be stupid to still count Maya as a friend after all she has done, she is worse than a foe. After what Kyra and Greg did, I think we have to be very careful in believing people's sincerity just because of their words. Words can be deceitful."
Lena reminisced all that had transpired between her Kyra, Greg, and Henderson from the very and seeing it from Henderson's perspective it wasn't his fault that he wanted nothing to do with Maya. But still, Lena believed in forgiveness, after all, to err is human, and forgiveness divine.
"I know but Maya might have no evil intention. We should use other people's offense in judging others that would not be fair, babe." Lena smiled.
"I know Maya better than you do baby. I don't just want her coming anywhere close to us or our kids," Henderson mumbled taking Lena's hand in his.
"Congratulations guys," Brighton cheered as he came to stand beside Henderson and Lena.
"Thank you, Brighton." Lena beamed warmly.
"I saw Maya leaving, I spoke to her and she decided to stay."
"You did what?" Henderson's eyes bulged out and his face twisted in a frown.
"Why would you do that? You should have let her go." An annoyed sigh left Henderson's lips.
"Calm down, I know you and Maya had a fallout but did something else happen between you two again?" Brighton's eyes narrowed in confusion, he was perplexed by Henderson's reaction. He was well aware of what had happened between Henderson Vivian and Maya in the past but he didn't think it was enough to make Henderson react the way he did when he told him he stopped her from leaving.
"Yes, a lot but don't act like I'm the only one who sees how pretentious and evil Maya is. Remember what she did to you, bashed your car simply because you spoke to her to stop being rude and arrogant. Have you forgotten?"
Brighton shook his head in response, "No, I didn't forget, I just forgave her. Moreover, it was a long time ago, I would say she was very young then but now she's mature. She told me all she did to you and Lena."
"Oh, I see and now you are her advocate. You were younger than Maya when she destroyed your car yet you weren't a brat like she was so don't give excuses for her actions. If you are going to talk about Maya, I suggest you don't because I don't want to hear it." Henderson's tone was gentle but it held seriousness. The last thing he wanted to be doing was listen to any more talks about Maya. Her name alone irked him to the core.
"I knew you were going to say that."
Brighton chuckled making Henderson raise a brow at him wondering if he had lost it.
"What's funny?"
"Nothing, it's just that even after so long you still do this. Make up your mind about something and don't want to change it even if the decision is a bad one. I'm not saying go back to being friends with Maya all I'm saying is just forgive her. I forgave her a long time ago for all she did to me even though she never apologised to me. Today she did and I told her I forgave her a long time ago."
"You did the right thing forgiving Maya and I was just talking to Henderson about Maya before you came. I'm glad you are here," Lena uttered.
"I'm guessing he didn't want to listen right? See Henderson, even your wife can see the truth. Stop acting like a kid and just let it go." Brighton drew in a breath.
"Yes, I agree with you Brighton. Honey just let it go."
Henderson smiled, and he wrapped his arms around Lena's waist and they locked gazes.
"Babe this is our wedding, not a sermon."
