Chapter 101—You Won't Let Me Help you!
Henderson only gave Lena a complicated response when she asked what it was he said she was doing over and over again.
His exact words were, "I'm pretty sure you know what I'm talking about."
Lena didn't say anything else to him, she kept pondering on his words wondering what it was she was doing that he didn't like. She questioned if it was the wedding night saga but remembered that earlier in the morning Henderson said he wasn't upset about it. So that was different not it, but what was it?
"I'll make us something to eat," Henderson mumbled after he and Lena got into the living room.
"You don't have to, I'll do it myself." Lena protested springing up to her feet.
Henderson shook his head, "You should go freshen up, I know you must be stressed." Henderson insisted he planted a kiss on her forehead before sauntering away.
Letting out a sigh, Lena made her way to the bedroom. After taking off her clothes and grabbing a towel, she walked into the bathroom.
Lena got dressed in a red coloured dress that stopped mid-thigh, normally she wouldn't opt for the dress but she remembered Irene telling her that red suited her very well and it was a seductive colour, also Irene had picked out the dress for her the day they went shopping but she was yet to wear it. Lena's hair was packed into a ponytail, she took off the scrunchy that held her hair together and let the hair loose. The dress was strapless and revealed a bit of cleavage, it wasn't something she would choose to wear outside the house. Taking steps to the huge mirror that stood tall in the room, she took in her reflection. Her lips curved into a smile, she looked gorgeous and she loved it. Irene was right after all.
Lena was about to walk out of the room when her phone started to ring. She ambled to the bed and picked it up, it was Matteo who was calling.
"Hey Lenny, " His cheerful voice came from the other end.
A smile marred her face, "How are you Matteo?"
"I'm good but I think I should be the one asking that question. How are you holding up? You didn't even tell me that you were leaving."
"I'm sorry. And I'm fine." Lena heaved a breath.
"How's Henderson? I hope you two are enjoying your honeymoon," he mumbled in a teasing tone.
"I don't know but I think I made him upset but he won't even tell me what I did? And he still acting sweet..."
"Did you reject his help again? You should talk to him and find out what the problem is." Matteo's voice was filled with concern as he interjected her statement.
"Reject his... help?" she said in a stutter, her brows puckered in confusion.
"I'm pretty sure you are going to act like you have no idea what I'm talking about, " Matteo spoke.
"I will if you don't mind saying it clearly, I'm confused here when have I ever rejected Henderson's help? I mean he comes to my aid most of the time." Lena argued. She still couldn't understand what Matteo was saying.
"Well after he insists. Lena, I know you it's hard for you to take help from people. Like when you told Henderson he didn't have to pay for your mom's hospital bills."
"You weren't even there. Irene told you, didn't she?" Lena's face distorted in a frown.
Matteo chortled, "You better take that frown off your face, and that's not the point. If you really give it a thought you will clearly understand what I mean."
Lena paused for a while in thought, reminiscing what had happened back in the hospital, she could recall that it wasn't long after she told Henderson that he didn't have to pay the bills that he said those words to her.
"You are right, Matteo. I didn't even realise I was doing all of that. What do I do now?" Lena sighed.
"Like I said earlier you should talk to him and find out what is wrong then you'll be sure of what to do, Lenny."
"Thanks, Matteo. I'll do that. How is my mom?" Lena inquired.
"She's unhappy you left. Irene is also upset with her, I know you are not happy with the decision she made but please don't stay mad at her. Take care of yourself, I have to go now, Cleo is calling for me. Send my regards to Henderson." Matteo muttered before hanging up the call.
Lena stepped out of the room after taking one last glance at the mirror as she sauntered closer to the kitchen she subconsciously stuck her nose in the air as the aroma from the kitchen filled her nostrils.
Lena walked into the kitchen but Henderson was yet to notice her presence, he was busy stirring what was in the pot until Lena spoke up.
"Babe, what are you cooking? It smells delicious," Lena beamed sniffing in the aroma.
Henderson turned around that moment, his eyes widened slightly as they roamed Lena. A smile played on his lips and took steps closer to her.
Because of the way Henderson's eyes were fixed on Lena, she became super conscious of how short the dress really was and the look on Henderson's face made her shy.
"Is there a problem?" Lena muttered lowly but Henderson heard her, he was standing in front of her but he was yet to say a word. He just kept staring at her, when Lena realised where his eyes were a brush crept her cheeks and she suddenly felt like she made the wrong choice deciding to wear this red dress.
Henderson chuckled, Lena's reaction amused him he tried really hard to stop himself from bursting into laughter but that didn't stop a chuckle from escaping his lips.
Lena's brows furrowed slightly as she peered at Henderson, his silence was upsetting. Henderson noticing this wrapped his arms around her and leaned in kissing her.
"You look really gorgeous. This dress looks good on you." He purred as he pulled away.
"Thank you, seeing that you wouldn't say a word, I thought about going to change."
"Well, you rendered me speechless," Henderson whispered.
Lena's cheeks glowed red and she tried to cover up her reddened cheeks with a smile.
Lena's smile slipped off her face shortly, and worry took over Henderson's features as he gazed at her.
"What's the problem babe?"
"I made you upset, didn't I? What you said in the car, does it have to do with why you are upset with me? About yesterday night, I didn't even know when I fell asleep. I'm sorry I promise to make it...."
Henderson put his hands on Lena's shoulder and smiled.
"Wait a minute, You think I'm upset because of that? I already told you that I'm not mad because of last night. Now I get it, is that why you are wearing this dress." Henderson's orbs flickered with mischief and he let out a chuckle.
When Henderson's eyes met Lena's icy stare he cleared his throat in an effort to hide his mirth.
"Maybe I was a bit disappointed when I walked into the room and saw you asleep but I knew how tired you were so it doesn't matter. What were you saying about making it up to me?" A smirk tugged the side of Henderson's lips.
Lena forced a smile on her face and leaned closer to Henderson.
"About that, I changed my mind..." she stated before pulling away.
"Wait what..." Henderson pursed his lips and his face twisted in a frown.
"Did you say something?" Lena pretended not to have heard what Henderson said.
Henderson was about to utter a retort when Lena screamed.
"It's burning.." she muttered pointing to the pot which was on the cooker. Henderson quickly turned it off before turning to face her.
"You are just joking right babe?"
"If you weren't mad because of last night then what was the reason?" Lena asked not giving an answer to Henderson's question.
"Because you won't let me help you." He blurted out, a sad expression playing on his visage.
