Chapter 14— It's All A Charade
Henderson couldn't explain why he felt disappointed when Lena told him that the reason she waited for him to return was because Itzel was worried about him and it wasn't too long ago that she finally slept off. When Lena said she was worried so she waited for him to return he felt his heart bubble with joy because he thought she cared but when she told him the reason his joy went down the drain and he went up to his room after he apologised for Alia's behaviour towards her.
After Henderson left, Alia left the dining area to her room. After Itzel, Trent and Lena finished with their food, Trent went into their room while Lena followed Itzel to her room to put her to sleep.
Alia came in and tried to put Itzel to sleep but when she failed she went back into her room. After Alia left, Itzel asked if she could spend the night in Lena's and Trent's room and Lena agreed since the little girl was finding it hard to fall asleep.
Two Weeks Later....
The past weeks had been quite an uneasy one for Lena, Alia was constantly trying to pick up fights with Lena regardless of how hard Lena was trying to ignore her. As if that wasn't enough Alia decided to make Itzel loathe Lena and make Henderson see Lena as a bad person her goals but it didn't work out in her favour. Henderson didn't believe the allegations she was always bringing up about Lena and it didn't matter what Alia told Itzel, Itzel didn't stop singing praises of how great a Nanny Lena was and it made Alia hate Lena even more.
"Lena, " Alia called while they ate breakfast. Henderson was yet to join them, he was upstairs doing some work, and he had a scheduled video meeting with his soon-to-be partners trying to close up a deal.
Lena almost choked on her food when she heard Alia call her name and when she tilted her head in Alia's direction she became astonished seeing the smile on Alia's face when their eyes met, that was new! She was used to getting scowls from Alia but a smile was suspicious.
"Ma'am, " Lena mumbled regaining her composure.
A sigh left Alia's lips, she leaned forward and clasped her hands together.
"I know I've not been the nicest person to you Lena, I judged you without even getting to know you. I really hope that you forgive me, I'm sorry for the hurtful things I said to but over the past weeks I have spent here, I have come to realise how wrong I was. I'll be glad if we put that behind us and possibly become friends."
Lena started coughing repeatedly, she finally choked on her food when she heard the part about becoming friends with Alia. She couldn't help but wonder why Alia was apologising out of the blue when just yesterday night she didn't let Itzel spend the night in Lena's room when she wanted to. And just this morning she scolded Lena saying all she does was lazy around the house and then gets paid a huge sum for doing nothing.
"Are you okay?" Henderson asked as he rushed to Lena, he had just walked into the dining area when he saw Lena coughing so much.
Itzel was rubbing Lena's back while Trent held her hand as they tried to stop her from choking.
"Here, have some, " Henderson reached for a glass of water and then he stretched it to Lena.
Lena took the glass from him and gulped down the water. She breathed heavily as she finally felt so relieved, she thought she was dying seeing how her body reacted.
"Sorry, " Trent and Itzel cooed simultaneously. There were relieved when she stopped coughing.
"Thank you, Sir." Lena mouthed as she turned to Henderson.
Henderson nodded before his gaze lingered from Lena to Alia.
"What did you do Alia? What did you say to her?" His eyes narrowed as he took his seat.
"Me? Seriously?" Alia's arched her brows and then she pointed a finger to herself. She was in disbelieve that Henderson just walked in and blamed her just because he found Lena chuckled, she wasn't the food, was she?
Henderson's angry gaze didn't leave Alia.
"I didn't do anything or say anything to Lena like you are accusing me of, I was only apologising to her for the way I've been treating her." Alia broke the silence and brought an end to Henderson's angry glare rather surprise took over his face.
"Apologising? I'm pretty sure that was enough to make her choke, "Henderson's voice was heavy with sarcasm.
Alia's face contorted in a frown.
"I was only trying to make peace, isn't that what you've always wanted? That's what I did, and I'm not the food that made Lena choke." She shrugged moving her gaze to Lena.
"So what do you say, Lena?"
"I have nothing against you ma'am," Lena mumbled as she swallowed the lump that seemed to have formed in her mouth when Alia's eyes hovered over her.
"Well then that makes us friends, also you don't have to call me ma'am. Just call me by name, " Alia's lips curved in a smile.
"What are you up to Alia?" Henderson questioned staring at her keenly. Maybe Lena was blind to the fact that all the apologies his sister rendered were all a charade, he knew her so well so there was no way he was going to believe her words. She had an agenda in mind and maybe she needed Lena hence the fake apology.
Alia's lips curled up in a snarl as she met Henderson's gaze.
"What do you think I'm up to?" She crossed her arms with a pinched expression plastered on her face.
Henderson snorted but didn't say a word, he picked up the cup of coffee and took a sip.
"That aside, there is something I need to talk to you about, Henderson." Alia smiled.
Henderson's lips pressed together, he placed the cup on the table before he turned to Alia.
"What's that?" Somehow he was convinced he knew what she was going to talk about and her words confirmed it.
Alia's smile widened, "You have to get married."
Henderson groaned in frustration before he averted his eyes from Alia. She was going to talk about him getting married just like he thought.
"Henderson, You need a wife. Itzel needs a mother, a Nanny won't be enough? Don't you think so too, Lena?" She glanced at Lena who sat up immediately tilting her head forward.
