Chapter 91—One Sided Recognition!
"Lena, what are you doing here?" The guy asked smiling but got no response from Lena she just stared at him with crinkled brows.
A sigh left the guy's lips, " You don't remember me, do you?"
Lena racked her brain trying to recall if she had ever met the guy standing in front of her but despite trying hard she remembered nothing about him.
"I don't, who are you?" Lena asked with raised brows. For as far as she could recall, she didn't know this guy but he was claiming to know her.
" Brighton!" A smile danced on Henderson's face as he walked into the living room.
Brighton? That was the name of Henderson's and Brian's friend. Considering how happy Henderson was the moment he saw the guy, Lena concluded he was the friend. Still, Lena wondered how the guy knew her but she concluded he probably knew her because of Henderson.
"Henderson!" Brighton raved stepping into the living room. He and Henderson hugged each giving each other pats on the back before they finally pulled away.
Henderson came to stand beside Lena, his hand wrapped around Lena's waist and he kissed her, a smile marred how face before he turned to Brighton.
"This is the love of my life, Le..."
"Lena, " Brighton completed settling on the couch.
Henderson's eyes widened slightly, " oh, you two have introduced yourself. Babe this is Brighton, I and Brian's best friend."
Henderson and Lena got seated on the couch opposite the one Brighton was seated on.
Lena smiled politely shifting her gaze to Brighton, "It's nice meeting you. I've heard a lot of amazing things about you."
"Really?" Brighton grinned.
He averted his gaze from Lena and moved it to Henderson.
"What have you and Brian been saying in my absence?" Brian questioned, his brows snapping together.
"It's been good things." Lena chipped in bringing an end to the dramatic stare-down between Henderson and Brighton.
A smirk plastered on Henderson's visage, " On the contrary, I and Brian have been saying horrible things."
Brighton scoffed and then he let out a laugh, he knew Henderson was just trying to pull his legs.
"You wouldn't dare, man."
"You think?" Henderson chuckled.
"That aside. When did you get back in the country? Is Brian aware that you are back in Hayglow?"
"I got back yesterday, and no Brian isn't aware yet. I haven't told him even though we spoke today."
"You've got to be joking! You came back yesterday!" Henderson sputtered.
Brighton had been out of town for four years and he got back to the country and didn't even let them know.
"Yeah, I had to first of all brace up and be ready for you and Brian. You know how it can be with you two, I had to gather energy." Brighton sighed deeply making Lena laugh.
The doorbell rang stopping Henderson from voicing out his retort to Brighton's words.
"I'll go get that," Henderson informed before sauntering to the door.
"Brian, you came right on time. Come in." Henderson moved to the side so Brian could come in.
"What? Is there something going on?" Brian inquired peering at Henderson.
Henderson smiled and then pointed into the living room.
"Brighton!" Brian's voice trembled as he squealed, and a smile grew on his face. He scooted to Brighton who was now on his feet and also stood to meet up with him.
"Bro, I never thought I would say this but I missed you so much." Brian smiled reaching for another embrace after they broke up the first hug.
"I missed you too. You've grown so big, " Brighton teased patting Brian's shoulder.
Brian glared at him playfully and shoved his hand away.
"Look who is talking. Wait a second... You are taller than I am.." Brian's jaw slacked he put his hand over Brighton's head trying to match their height, Brighton hovered over him a little but to him, it wasn't just a little.
"Not now again you two, arguing over your heights, really guys?" Henderson laughed folding his arms across his chest as he watched Brian and Brighton go back and forth.
"It's just a few inches, it's not a big deal." Brighton shrugged his shoulders but Brian didn't feel that way.
"It's a big deal. I have always been the taller one and then Henderson grew taller than me and now you?" Brian sighed gloomily shaking his head.
"You are nuts, Brian!" Henderson chuckled.
Lena laughed as she watched the three of them, when Cleo was speaking about the kind of friendship these three had, Lena thought that maybe she was just exaggerating because Cleo was good at that but not that was a witness to it, she could confidently say that Cleo didn't even describe it hundred per cent.
"I'm not." Brian protested.
"Come closer, let me see something, " he beckoned.
Henderson wriggled his head, " I'm not going to be cut up in that thing you two are doing. I'll pass."
Brian let out a snicker, "Scared he's taller than you are as well?"
"In your dreams!" Henderson huffed strolling closer to them.
Brian made Henderson and Brighton stand beside each other so he could measure their heights, In the end, he was left disappointed because Henderson was taller.
"See, I'm taller, dude. Sorry, you got shorter. Brighton had the last laugh, remember those days you used to tease him about being the shortest amongst us." Henderson mocked Brian, who scowled upon hearing his words. Henderson and Brighton exchanged glances and they burst out laughing.
Brian ignored them and took his seat.
"Hi, Lena." He smiled.
"I'm guessing you are just seeing her, " Brighton grumbled and earned a glare from Brian.
"Sorry, Lena. I was so happy about this jerk being in town that I didn't even say hi to you when I walked in." Brian mumbled apologetically.
Lena gave him a smile and shook her head, " It's fine. I was going to say hi to you but I didn't want to ruin the moment you three were having."
"Brighton, when did you even come into the country?" Brian's face twisted in a scowl as he returned his gaze to Brighton who just plopped on the couch taking the empty space beside him.
"He came back yesterday," Henderson answered before Brighton could even say a word.
Brian was a bit upset, he had been looking forward to Brighton's return yet he came back into the country yesterday and they were just getting to know today.
"You are an asshole! We spoke today and you didn't even tell me you were back." Brian frowned glaring at Brighton.
"My apologies older brothers," Brighton muttered sarcastically placing a hand on his chest and bowing slightly.
"Really, " Brian smacked him on the shoulder.
"Ouch, " Brighton winced feigning to be hurt.
"You both should take it easy on him, maybe he just wanted his arrival to be a surprise to you guys." Lena interfered.
"Thank you, Lena. You and I are the only sensible people here."
This time not only Brian smacked him but Henderson joined as well.
"I hate you both, " Brighton grumbled when they finally left him, his upper lip raising slightly in scorn as his eyes worked on them.
"We love you too little bro, " Henderson and Brian said in unison and they burst out laughing.
Brighton was the youngest among Henderson and Brian, Brian was five years older than Brighton while Henderson was four years older than him. Brighton was still a teenager when he met them, they treated him like a little brother and always made sure that no harm came to him but that never stopped them from teasing and taunting him whenever they felt like it.
A Day Later...
"So tell me, have you found the lady? Your one true love?" Brian's eyes flickered with mischief as he glanced at Brighton.
Brighton had a wan expression on his face, he drew in a sharp breath and slowly exhaled.
"Yes, it's Lena."
Brian's eyes narrowed and colour drained out of his face as he sat up on the couch, left flabbergasted by Brighton's words.
"You are joking right?"
