Chapter 70 Ria And Then Greg!
Lena, Cleo and Itzel were finally done shopping so they headed to the cashier to pay their bills.
"I can't believe we've been shopping for over three hours!" Lena sputtered after checking what the time was on her phone. They had stepped into the mall when it was just a few minutes past eleven o'clock and now it was almost three o'clock. Cleo and Itzel would have been willing to go on with their shopping if Lena hadn't called their attention to what the time was.
"I'm sorry ma'am but your card has been declined, " The cashier apologized to the lady who was standing in front of her extending the card to her.
The lady sighed in frustration as to took the card from her, "Declined? But..."
"Ria, " Lena gasped when she saw the lady's face after she turned around.
"Lena, " surprise crossed Ria's face. She looked away from Lena and returned her gaze to the cashier.
"Please try the card once again."
The cashier nodded and took the card from Lena.
"Still declined, " The cashier muttered giving Lena an apologetic look.
"Is there a problem?" Lena muttered taking steps to Ria.
"Well she is trying to pay for the things she bought but her...."
"You don't have to tell her anything, " Ria interjected glaring at The cashier.
"I don't need you to interfere, I'll find a way to sort myself out. Moreover, I don't think you can afford to pay for anything here," Ria rasped, she was trying hard to hide her embarrassment. She had never been in such a situation before, at the moment she felt as though the ground should open up and swallow her so she wouldn't have to experience this.
Lena looked away from Ria ignoring her words, she shifted her gaze to the cashier.
"Here, we bought some things." Lena extended the black card to the cashier after pointing to the items in the cart.
"And you can add up her bills as well." Lena smiled pointing to Ria.
Ria's brows snapped together, she huffed peering at Lena who was putting in the card's pin.
"I don't need your help, no need to act all high and mighty here. How do you even have that card? I'm guessing you are sleeping around with one wealthy guy and trying to be..."
"How dare you speak to her like that? Are you crazy!" Cleo interrupted her eyes flaring with anger. She took steps closer to Ria but Lena placed her hand on Cleo's shoulder beckoning her to calm down.
"What can you do? Who the heck are you?" Ria snarled rolling her eyes at Cleo.
Cleo made to say something but Lena shook her head gesturing not to.
"You shouldn't pay for her, she's way too rude. How do you even know someone like this?" Cleo had a scrunched-up expression as her eyes flickering with disdain swept over Ria.
"We should be nice it doesn't matter if people don't appreciate our kindness, " Lena smiled turning to Ria.
"Here is your card ma'am, " the receptionist handed over the card to Lena once she had finished processing payment.
"Thank you."
Itzel who was watching the scene in silence sauntered closer to Ria whose head was downturned in shame.
"You need to apologise to my Mommy, she only wanted to help you out."
"Your Mommy?" Ria's eyes crinkled in confusion.
"Lena is your Mommy?"
Itzel nodded, "Yes she is. And you should say those things to my mommy again else I'll tell my Daddy and..."
"Itzel, that's enough. Don't worry about it," Lena chipped in calmly taking steps to Itzel, She took her hand in hers and then they scooted outside together while Cleo took the things they had shopped for.
Ria stood there rooted in her spot unable to say a word, She couldn't believe what just happened, she was awestruck by Lena's kindness, Even after all she had done to Lena she was still willing to pay for the things she bought which were over two thousand dollars.
They were seated in the car headed Lena couldn't stop thinking about the moment Itzel called her Mommy, it was heartwarming for her and it made her joyful.
"You called me mommy, " Lena's lips curved up happily and she cupped Itzel's face kissing her cheeks.
Itzel smiled, "Yes. I'm glad to have a mommy like you. I've always prayed to have a mommy and he brought you to me."
"Aww that's so sweet, so to disturb your mother and daughter moment but how did you even get to know that lady? Ryan, Rila or whatever her name was. How do you know someone as stupid as that? She's so crazy and ungrateful, she couldn't even say thank you even after you paid for what she bought." Cleo scowled in disgust making Lena turn to her.
Even though it was just Cleo's first time meeting Ria, she hated her with passion. Her attitude was a no for Cleo, she hated people like that.
"Well, we used to work together in a restaurant in Oxwey before I came back to Hayglow. We weren't the best of friends, she never really liked me."
"If I were you, I would never have spared her a second glance or even tried to help her. Such people deserve to be paid back in their own coins. I know being kind is good but with an attitude like that, I'm sure I'll choose to be unkind, " Cleo snorted. She couldn't see reasons why Lena chose to be nice to Ria despite all she said to her.
"I'm pretty sure there is some good in her deep down. Also, I have nothing against her, " Lena smiled.
Cleo opposed shaking her head. The actions Ria displayed back there was nothing close to good.
"I don't think so, I think she is just plain wicked."
Lena's face contorted in a frown, "Don't say such things in front of Itzel."
"Sorry, but I'm sure even Itzel can attest to that." Cleo shrugged, She glanced at Itzel who nodded in agreement.
"Lena but there must have been something that made her dislike you so much, did she ever mention why she's so jealous of you?" Cleo arched a brow.
"Well, a guy she likes at the restaurant confessed to having feelings for me.." Lena blurted out before the realisation hit her. She was never supposed to mention that to anyone. 'But at least she didn't mention any name, ' that was some comfort for her until....
"What? Is it the Greg guy?"
Lena's eyes widened and her jaw slacked. Here she was thinking not mentioning Greg's name did help.
"How did you know about Greg?"
"Well, Matteo told me. He said he kind of suspected that the guy had feelings for you seeing how he was always acting around you but he said he didn't take the suspicions seriously since he thought he was just imagining things but now all I can say was he was damn right. I'm pretty sure Henderson is going to kill him if he finds out!" Cleo cackled, a sinister smile taking over her face afterwards.
