Chapter 94— Archaic Wedding Tradition!
A gigantic grin took over Brighton's visage and he folded his arms across his chest as his gaze darted from Irene to Brian. What he just witnessed was caught him off-guard, if someone had told him without him seeing it with his eyes he would never have believed in.
"Sorry, it was not my intention to interrupt the moment." He mumbled lowly trying to stop himself from laughing at the expression on their faces.
"You are being a jerk to her, aren't you?" Brighton's forehead creased and he shifted his gaze to Irene and then Brian.
"You are the jerk since you are still standing here, " Brian fired back, his eyes emanating annoyance.
A smile grew on Irene's lips and she shook her head.
"We are just sorting things out."
A mischievous smile crept on Brighton's face and he nodded.
"Yeah, I can see that. If he ever troubles you just let me know." Brighton smiled warmly.
Irene chuckled, "thanks, Brighton."
"I'll be inside, " she mumbled before dashing away.
Brighton stood watching Irene's retreating figure when Brian smacked him on the shoulder making him turn to him instantly.
"Ouch, what was that for?" Brighton frowned.
Brian scoffed and the corner of his eyes crinkled in disbelief. Even though most time people thought Brighton was the perfect gentleman, he could be a pain in the ass if he wanted to as well.
"You want an answer? I'm very sure you know exactly what you did."
Brighton erupted into laughter.
"I can't wait to go tell everyone inside what you two were busy doing."
Brian glared at him, " Why don't you just mind your business?"
"Ouch, I'm hurt by your words," Brighton said with a whimper placing his hand on his chest dramatically.
"I wish I was sorry but I'm not." Brian faked a smile and made to walk away but Brighton pulled him back.
"Dude, what exactly are you up to with her? I'm hoping you don't plan to make her one of those ladies who helplessness fall in love with you when you have no intentions of being serious. Henderson and Lena will end you, I don't mind being of help."
"Of course not. I love Irene, I told Henderson. It was love at first sig...."
Brian didn't get to complete his statement before Brian burst out laughing hard.
"You, love at first sight. You said that with Mikayla."
Brian's forehead creased and he pursed his lips staring at Brighton who was still laughing with narrowed eyes.
"How did you know about Mikayla? You weren't even here at that time. I'm guessing you and Henderson have been saying things behind my back. That's very nice and loyal." The last part of Brian's statement held sarcasm and it didn't go unnoticed by Brighton.
"Come on, stop being sarcastic. Henderson just told me. We care about you, we actually thought about organising a blind date for you.."
Brian chortled, he folded his arms across his chest when his laughter died down.
"You need that more than I do, considering...." Brian stopped halfway deciding not to complete his statement, he figured it was an insensitive thing to say to Brighton considering his situation.
Brighton heaved a sigh and his face twisted in a frown, " Don't do that. It makes me feel pathetic."
"Do what?" Brian asked faking ignorance.
"Why didn't you finish your statement? You didn't want me to feel bad. If you guys keep acting this way it would be more difficult to get over her."
A lot had changed since the day Henderson and Brighton had a conversation. Brighton made up his mind to get rid of his feelings for Lena and he also didn't want her to know about it because he felt it was going to be really awkward if Lena knew that he had feelings for her and he couldn't risk that. He no longer saw the need to walk out whenever Henderson and Lena were having their lovey-dovey moment, he made up his mind to be happy for them that was his way of dealing with the unwanted jealousy that somehow wanted to immerse him whenever he saw the couple together.
"I won't do that again. I'm sorry." Brian apologised.
"It's all good. I'll just get back inside. I didn't even pick up the call which brought me outside. I guess I'll just call back later."
"Brighton, you can't tell anyone about the kiss, please."
Brighton arched a brow at Brian and his eyes scrutinised his face, " Why? I thought you said you love her, why do you want to keep it a secret."
"That's because the kiss was unplanned and I don't even know how she feels about it. I don't want to go ahead of myself. I just want to take things slow and prove my love, rushing things will just make it seem like I have an ulterior motive."
Brighton agreed to keep it a secret after Brian told him his reasons. They went back into the living room together, and it came as a bomb to everyone aside Brighton when Irene and Brian were agreeing with each other rather than their usual unending arguments.
"I've tried to keep this in, but I can't anymore. Is it just me who is surprised about how Brian and Irene have been agreeing and being sweet to each other? Is there something that you both would like to tell us?" Cleo let out her gaze settling on Brian and Irene.
"Exactly, I was just about to say that as well," Lena mumbled casting suspicious glances at Brian and Irene who had their eyes on each other.
"We are just doing what you all have always wanted." Irene shrugged her shoulders.
Brian nodded in support, " Yeah, we are grown-ups. And we realised that bickering and arguing like little kids is very childish hence we made peace and we are friends now."
"Friends?" Lena sputtered glancing at Henderson who had a smile on his face.
"This just got interesting, " Henderson chortled stroking his chin.
Days Later.....
It was two days to Lena's and Henderson's wedding. Alia came over to the house late evening and to Henderson's and Lena's dismay she started to talk about some wedding traditions that they found weird and unnecessary to fulfil but that didn't make her stop.
"What do you mean by I have to leave the house?" A frown embraced Henderson's countenance.
He and Lena exchanged puzzled glances before Lena returned her gaze to Alia.
Alia smiled and then plopped on the couch.
"I know you both might not like this but you can't see each other until the wedding day. It's a common wedding tradition."
Henderson chuckled, " It's so archaic and old-fashioned. And there's no way I'm just going to leave."
"Fine then. If you don't want to leave, Lena will just come with me to my house." Alia shrugged.
