Chapter 21— I Don't Like Her!
Lena failed to understand Henderson's expression back there and she couldn't stop thinking about it.
First, his unwavering gaze was on Lena and when Maya told him that Lena slapped her, Lena saw a smile on his face before his expression turned blank. Then he said it was none of his business and walked away.
Alia came in that moment, but Lena stormed off without saying a word to any of them leaving them to swell with fury like they were going to explode. Lena felt a wave of disappointment but she tried to wave it off since she was the one who told Henderson to stay away from her.
Sooner before Henderson had gone outside the house, Itzel apologised to him for her behaviour. She also told him all the things Maya had been filling her head with. He was furious and was going to confront Maya when he was told by Alia that she was outside the house.
Seeing how agitated Henderson was at the moment, Alia decided to follow him out. He didn't bother to say a word to Maya again because he was glad that Lena had put her in her place. But he didn't want to show it to Lena, he was still upset with her because of the things she said to him the other day.
"Daddy, Daddy, " Itzel called in frustration tapping her father on the shoulder.
"Yes, " he mumbled looking up at Itzel who was standing in front of him after he jolted out of his thoughts.
Itzel had been calling him repeatedly but he didn't say a word or respond to her because he was lost in thoughts.
"Did you and Aunt Lena fight?" Itzel asked folding her arms around her chest.
À line formed between Henderson's furrowed brows, he was taken aback by Itzel's sudden enquiry. He wasn't expecting that question out of the blue.
"Huh?" He stared at his daughter with raised brows.
"Daddy, " Itzel sighed taking a sit beside him. She knew what he was trying to do, feign ignorance and then make her drop the topic but she wasn't going to do that.
"Aunt Lena and Trent no longer eat with us at the dining and you both don't talk to each other any more."
Just when Itzel completed her statement Henderson's phone started to ring and to say he was relieved was an understatement. That was going to be a perfect escape from having to answer Itzel's questions.
"Hold on, Zel, " he muttered before picking up the phone from beside him.
It was Brian who was calling, after they finished speaking on the phone, Henderson rose from the bed.
"Daddy, where are you going?" Itzel's face contorted in a frown as she looked up at her father.
"I'll be back soon, you should go play. " Henderson smiled, he placed a kiss on her cheeks and sauntered out of the room before she could say a word.
Itzel needed no one to tell her that her father was avoiding her questions so he decided to leave.
"Trent, " Itzel mumbled when she walked into Lena's room and saw him seated on the bed, he was reading his book. He tilted his head up to gaze at her when he heard her call his name.
"Itzel?" A surprised smile crept on his face and he straightened himself up and kept the book away.
"I brought you this, " Itzel ambled to the bed and handed the box of chocolates which was in her hands to Trent.
"I'm sorry for pushing you that day and for all the things I've done and said to you. Please forgive me, " she apologised still holding out the box of chocolates to him since he was yet to receive it from her.
"I've forgiven you already, "Trent's lips widened in a smile.
He glanced at the chocolate box, "You don't have to give me chocolates to get my forgiveness. It seems like a bribe, a sincere apology is enough. Mommy says forgiveness can't be bought."
Itzel smiled taking her sit close to Trent.
"I know but please take it. It would mean us becoming friends."
"Friends?" Trent's jaw dropped and his brows knitted together.
"But you said we..."
"Yes, I know I said that we can never be friends. I was wrong, I'm sorry." Itzel completed his statement and kept the box of chocolates in front of him.
"Thank you, " Trent giggled with excitement and embraced Itzel who smiled hugging him back.
"I want your mommy to be my mommy, " Itzel mumbled after they broke the hug.
"That's not a problem just tell my mommy, she'll agree, " Trent beamed and Itzel facepalmed.
"Aunt Lena can only be my Mommy if she marries my Daddy, " Itzel let out after she lifted her head.
Trent's eyes narrowed in confusion, he crossed his arms as he peered at Itzel wanting her to explain further.
"You don't have a Daddy and I don't have a Mommy, so if your Mommy marries my Daddy we'll both have a Daddy and a Mommy. We'll also become siblings." Itzel explained seeing the confused expression on Trent's face.
"My mommy said my Daddy is in heaven and I'll meet him one day."
"Sorry, but that's a lie, if your mommy said that it means your Daddy is dead. My Daddy told me that my mommy is in heaven too but that's a lie, she doesn't want me. Adults tell lies but they hate it when we lie, " Itzel huffed rolling her eyes.
All this time Henderson always told Itzel that her mommy was in heaven but she heard Alia speak about a divorce the other day during dinner. She found out what a divorce meant and she understood that her mom was alive but she didn't want her, all this was unknown to Henderson.
"My Daddy is dead, "Trent's eyes moistened with tears. Itzel gasped realising that Trent was about to break into tears, she wrapped her hands around him patting his back.
"Don't worry, you can still have a Daddy. When your mommy and my daddy get married."
"But do you think my mommy will want to marry your Daddy?" Trent sighed.
"I don't know Trent, I think that they are fighting. They don't talk to each other anymore. You know the first time Aunt Lena came here they quarrelled and then she left. I had to plead with my daddy before he agreed to hire her, " a sour expression marred Itzel's face.
The expression on her face soon transformed into a small smile, "I think my Daddy likes your mommy now but I don't know if she likes him too."
"What are you both talking about?" Lena's voice made the kids scream in fright. They were so engrossed in their discussion that they didn't know when she stepped into the room.
"Well, we..." Trent started but Itzel put a hand on his mouth and whispered something to him.
"We just became friends, " Trent grinned.
"Yes friends, " Itzel chuckled clapping her hands together.
Lena's hands were on her hips as she watched the kids' weird behaviour. They were definitely hiding something, but she made up her mind to let it slide, it was the first time they were all smiles with each other but since they were friends now. It was way more important than her suspicions.
......
...
"I still don't get it, why do Lena's words bother you so much? Didn't you tell me that she was just your daughter's Nanny?" A smirk tugged Brian's lips as he stared at Henderson's dulled-up expression with raised brows.
Henderson told Brian to meet up with him at their usual spot when he called. When they met Henderson told Brian about all Lena had said but he didn't tell him how he felt about it. He knew Brian was going to ask him the same question he had always asked when he spoke to him about Lena.
"Of course she is but we..."
"But you both did what?" Brian questioned his eyes flickering with mischief as he spoke.
"Gross, " he gave Henderson a dirty look before he continued. His eyes crinkled and he leaned forward.
"What?" Henderson's brows furrowed in a frown as he saw Brian's countenance.
"Don't tell me you are fucking your daughter's Nanny?"
Henderson's stern expression dotted Brian and he smacked Brian hard on the shoulder after he was done talking.
"Ouch, " Brian winced.
"You must be crazy. You've got such a dirty mind."
Henderson glared at Brian, he was grinning from ear to ear despite being smacked by Henderson. It was quite surprising to Brian that his best friend was sulking because his daughter's Nanny wanted nothing to do with him. That was unlike Henderson, Brian had the impression that Henderson had fallen for Lena because Henderson's words and reaction whenever he spoke about Lena confirmed it.
"Dude, I fucking hate you. Coming here was a bad decision, " Henderson groaned shooting Brian who was chortling a glare.
Brian kept a straight face after he was done laughing.
"Think about it, isn't it obvious that you like..."
"No, I don't like Lena, " Henderson interrupted Brian with a scowl.
Brian snapped his fingers, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. His friend didn't just like Lena, he was in love with her, and everything was crystal clear.
"You do like her. No, you are in love with her dude. See I was yet to mention her name but you concluded it was Lena."
"Well... I just. I do like her but not like that." Henderson stuttered before stating his stand firmly.
Did he really like Lena? No, he didn't. That was not possible, she was just his daughter's Nanny, nothing else! The thoughts kept playing in his head.
"Fine, " Brian raised his hands in surrender.
"Since you've got no feelings for her. I'll love to visit your house, I would love to meet and we could possibly hit it off from there. I can't wait to ..."
Henderson's face had turned completely dark, his eyes blazing with a dark aura like that of a pissed predator.
"I'll end you if you try it. Stay away from Lena. You are a fucking playboy, you can't break her heart. I will fucking kill you if you dare."
Henderson's eyes were still bloodshot and anger surged through them as they settled on Brian.
