Chapter 73— A Better Way!

"Darling, I'm sorry, " Lena gasped cupping Henderson's cheeks. He put his hands on her hers and his lips curved into a smile. "Baby, it's fine." Lena sighed in annoyance as she turned to her mother. "Mom, you know what? I'm done, I'm done trying to fix things with you. None of these is my fault. Dad died on his way back after he dropped me off in college but it's not my fault. Yet you've always blamed me for that. I tried so hard to be a good daughter but I've never been good enough. I can't do this anymore." Lena's mom scowled gaping at Lena. "Do you think saying all of this and crying these fake tears is going to change how I feel about you? It's not working, save your tears because nothing you say matters to me." Lena gazed heavenward, she let out a breath before returning her gaze to her mom. Tears streamed down her cheeks. "The reason I came here was to introduce Henderson to you and to inform you that our engagement party is in three weeks." Lena's mom shrugged shooting Lena a glare. "So? You want me to give you a big hug and say congratulations. Or say sorry to you for all you've said I've done to you?" She scoffed. Her nostrils flared and she sneered taking steps to Lena, " I don't care. You may leave my house." A sad smile took over Lena's face, The words of her mother hurt her to the core but what was the point, Her mother didn't care. "I have been so stupid all these years, Mrs Cohen. But now I can see the truth that has been staring at me in the eye but I've been turning a blind eye to it, You don't care about me. You are selfish. Henceforth, I won't try to fix things with you, It is fine if you keep hating me that's your choice and I'm not to be blamed for it." Lena wiped the tears on her face before turning to Henderson. "Darling, let's go." Lena and Henderson sauntered out of the room. When they got outside, Henderson held Lena's hand and made her turn to him. "Lee, I'm sorry about all your mom said." Lena shook her head, " I should be saying sorry to you, You got slapped for absolutely no reason. I'm sorry. You should have just let her slap me, It's nothing new I'm used to that." "Babe, I will never let anyone hurt or hit you regardless of who they are. The only reason I let your mom off after she said those words to you is because she is your mom. Else I wouldn't have." Henderson's lips curled up.. Lena mustered a smile on her face, " Just let it be. I won't come back here again." "Lena, " Mrs. Lisa called scooting to them. "Hi, Mrs Lisa, how are you?" Lena smiled hugging her when she reached where they were. "Hi Henderson, " Mrs. Lisa greeted after she and Lena broke the hug. "Hi, Ma'am." Henderson smiled hugging her. Surprise crossed Lena's face, she had no idea that Henderson and Mrs Lisa knew each other. "You know him, " Lena smiled turning to Mrs Lisa. "Yes, I mean who doesn't know Henderson Bain, the famous CEO? I really have to thank you both, Henderson gave me a million dollars if he hadn't I would have lost my house." Mrs Lisa appreciated with a huge grin on her face. "Thank you, ma'am. You helped us, I mean you told us about Lena's whereabouts. If you ever need help with anything just let me know." Henderson smiled gently before shifting his gaze to Lena. "Lena is such an amazing lady." Mrs Lisa praised patting Lena's shoulder. Henderson nodded, "She is the best. I'm blessed to have her." "Well, I wish you both the very best." "Thank you, Mrs Lisa, we would love to invite you to our engagement party. It's in three weeks." Lena beamed reaching into her back for an invitation card. Mrs Lisa had a smile on her face as she took the card from Lena, "I will be there, I won't miss it for anything." "I have to go check what I left on the fire. Do have a nice day." Mrs Lisa mouthed before walking away. "Darling thank you for giving Mrs Lisa the money. She has always been nice to me and Trent. She helped us out a lot of times. So thank you for what you did." "Lee, seems like we are going to have a problem." Henderson's face twisted in a frown, he folded his arms across his chest. Concern etched Lena's face and she leaned closer to him. "What's wrong?" "You keep saying thank you all the time," Henderson whined. Lena chuckled shaking her head, " Darling but it's the right thing to say. There's no bad in expressing gratitude." "I have a better way, " Henderson leaned closer to Lena draping his hand around her waist, he pulled her in, so close that she could feel his hot breath on her face and then his lips met hers. "I love you, baby." Henderson smiled. "I love you." Lena gleamed kissing his cheeks. At The Mansion..... "Welcome back, Mommy, Daddy." Itzel and Trent said in unison running to hug Lena and Henderson who just walked into the living room. "How are you guys?" "We are fine, " the kids replied taking their seats on the couch. "Where's Cleo?" Henderson inquired. "She went out with Uncle Matteo, " Trent responded. Itzel nodded, "Yes, she was wearing a very beautiful dress. We asked if could come along but they said no that they were going to be discussing work but it seemed to me like a date." "Itzel, what did we talk about not being a blabbermouth, " Trent cautioned tapping her on the shoulder. "This isn't gossip just telling our parents. Is that considered gossip?" Itzel shrugged. "Whatever, I'm going upstairs to read my story book," Trent muttered springing up from his chair. Itzel stood up as well, "I'll come along with you. I have to dress up my doll for her date." "A doll for a date?" Henderson eyes squinted and he glanced at Lena. Lena placed a finger on her lips gesturing him to keep quiet, Itzel already had a frown on her face which was a result of his comment. "Wow, I hope your doll has a nice date, " Henderson forced a smile. Trent and Itzel left the living room afterwards. "Why do I feel that Cleo and Matteo have feelings for each other?" Henderson mumbled. Lena nodded in agreement, " I think so too. I think it's pretty obvious but all they do is hide behind work." "Yeah, I'm pretty sure we both did that as well. Remember that time you said you wanted an employer-employee relationship?" Henderson teased peeking at Lena and they burst out laughing.
