Chapter 75—An Ex!
"Don't you think Irene and Matteo deserve a gift?"
"A gift for lying to me?" Lena's brows knitted together, she stared at Henderson with curled-up lips.
Henderson took Lena's hand in his, his lips curved in a smile as he gazed at her.
"Baby, I know they lied and you must have been really worried when Irene told you about the money she needed. But look at it this way, they probably just wanted you to take the job I'm sure they had no intentions to hurt you. Also, we owe them gratitude, I mean they played a role in bringing us together."
Lena after thinking Henderson's words through, he was right. Because of Matteo and Irene, she got a good-paying job and even found love while at it.
"You are right but I'm just really upset because I was really worried when Irene told me she needed money. Now, that you've said it I agree they deserve a thank you."
A Day Later.
Lena just got off a call from Matteo and shortly afterwards Irene called both of them and said the same thing to Lena. They told her that Henderson had gifted them a car. Lena was happy about it, Henderson had told her about it the day before. She and Henderson also expressed their gratitude to Matteo and Irene for the part they had played in bringing the two of them together.
Henderson and Lena said their good nights to each other after putting Trent and Itzel to sleep then they retired to their room.
Lena lay on her bed gazing at the ceiling, she was finding it hard to fall asleep and she didn't know why since she was sleepy earlier. She decided to go to the kitchen to get herself a glass of water.
Scrambling out of bed, she headed to the kitchen after she walked in she reached for a bottle of water and was pouring some water into a glass when the kitchen door flew open making her flinch, the bottle of water in her hand fell to the floor when she flinched and almost fell to the ground, her scream echoed in the room and her heart was beating frantically. She regretted not turning on the lights in the kitchen when she had walked in.
When she regained herself, she picked up the water bottle on the floor and kept it on the kitchen counter.
"Lee, " Henderson called rushing to her, he enveloped her in a warm embrace smoothing her hair.
"It's you. You startled me, " Lena exhaled as she pulled away from Henderson.
Lena's face twisted in a frown she pursed her lips as she gazed at Henderson who was trying so hard to keep his laughter bottled up. He had a smile on his face.
"What's funny!"
This time Henderson couldn't hold it in any longer so he burst out laughing.
"I'm sorry, " he apologised when Lena glared at him. He cleared his throat trying to hide his glee but he ended up laughing again.
"You know what, I'm going back to bed." Lena scowled in annoyance, she made to walk away but she slipped almost falling to the ground but Henderson's arms wrapped around her stopping her from falling.
"Thank you, " she uttered not even sparing Henderson a glance. She ambled to the other side of the kitchen and grabbed a mop, she walked back to the place where the water had spilt over and cleaned it up before returning the mop to its place. When she was about to step out of the kitchen, Henderson shut the door and turned on the lights.
"Why did you do that? I have to go since you find everything funny."
Lena's face twisted in a grimace, she made to walk past Henderson but his hand slung around her waist and he pulled her back gently.
"Babe, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you, your expression was hilarious and I couldn't help but laugh." Henderson chuckled as the scene replayed in his head once again.
"Now you are laughing again." Lena screwed up her face.
"I'm sorry, " Henderson apologised keeping a straight face.
"Uhm, I thought you were going to be asleep by now. Did you have any nightmares?" Concern etched Henderson's face.
Lena shook her head, "No, I didn't. I couldn't fall asleep so I thought to get myself some water and then you came in and scared the hell out of me."
Henderson's lips pressed together and he exhaled, " I also couldn't get some sleep, I was thirsty that's why I came into the kitchen I had no idea you were in. Sorry."
"It's fine, " Lena smiled.
"Maybe we should take a walk outside the garden and get some fresh sit that might help both of us."
"Sure, " Lena nodded in agreement.
Holding hands, they walked out of the kitchen and strode to the garden together.
Lena and Henderson were seated on the bench in the garden, the place was calming and silent, the gentle breeze grazing their skin.
"This place is cool, " Lena muttered turning to Henderson.
Henderson bobbed his head, " It is beautiful too, but not as beautiful as you are."
Lena's cheeks glowed red, just the simplest of compliments from Henderson was enough to make her blush.
"Thank you."
"I love you, Lee." Henderson purred cupping Lena's face with his hands. Lena's heart fluttered the moment Henderson's warm lips met hers, leaving her in utter bliss until he pulled away.
A smile embraced his lips, he took her hand in his and planted a kiss on the back of her palm before shifting his eyes to her face.
"You know I've been thinking about your therapy and yesterday I got a call from your therapist."
"Therapy, I don't think I need that anymore. I'm okay now and I haven't had that nightmare since I started therapy and it's been months, " Lena muttered.
"Yeah but don't you think getting a confirmation from your therapist will be the best? I can go with you to the therapist whenever you want."
Lena paused for a second gazing at the ground before she shifted her eyes to Henderson.
"Alright." She nodded with a smile.
Two days later, Henderson and Lena went to her therapist's office together. They dropped Itzel and Trent off at school before heading to meet the therapist. After a series of tests, the therapist said Lena was okay and there was no longer a need to go on with therapy.
Henderson brought Lena back to the mansion before going to the office. Cleo left for the office early that morning so only Lena and the workers were at the mansion. Lena got tired of staying in her room so she decided to go to the living room just as she descended from the stairs, she heard the doorbell ring. She scooted to the door and pulled it open.
Lena's forehead creased, her lips curled up as she took in the sight in front of her. Vivian was standing right there!
