Chapter 20— Henderson Is Not Yours!
"Are you ok Aunt Lena?" Itzel asked her voice soft with concern as she stared at Lena's sad face. Lena had just finished braiding Itzel's hair.
Lena's lips curved in a smile, Itzel just called her aunt Lena. It had been days since Itzel last called her that. Itzel waved her off whenever she tried to talk to her ever since the day of the incident with Trent. Lena stopped Trent from eating in the dining and she did too, she was disappointed when Henderson didn't ask her why she did that or say anything to her about it, but she concluded he didn't care even though she was the one who asked him to stay away.
Somehow she managed to get past Alia's and Maya's schemes, and they weren't on her neck as much as they used to be since she and Henderson were no longer friendly with each other.
"I thought you were upset with me?" Lena arched her brows and Itzel nodded with a shrug.
"I am, but I'm not happy that you are sad. You've been like this for days. Daddy too, you don't even talk to each and you don't tell us any of those stories and Daddy doesn't say his jokes as well. You and Trent no longer eat with us, Did you and my Daddy fight?" Itzel inquired not taking her gaze off Lena's face.
Lena peered at Itzel not knowing what to say, how was she going to explain to Itzel that she had told her father that she wanted nothing to do with him and hence why she and Trent no longer ate at the dining with them?
"Or is it because of Aunt Alia and Maya? Or is it because of what I said the other day?" Itzel asked, remorse taking over her face when she saw that Lena was yet to say a word.
A sigh left Lena's mouth and she smiled.
"It has nothing to do with you. Don't worry about it, sweetie. I'm fine. I'm worried about you, these days you no longer want to talk to me. I'm surprised that you even let me braid your hair, " Lena frowned playfully before she continued.
"And About what you said the other day, it's not true. I love you Itzel and it's not because I get paid to be your Nanny, yes, I'm happy with the pay but remember right from the first day I stepped foot in this mansion. I liked you. I love Trent but it doesn't mean I hate you, I love you as much. You are like a daughter to..." Before Lena could complete her last word Itzel wrapped her arms around her and she broke into tears.
Lena disengaged the hug, she cupped Itzel's cheeks.
"Why are you crying?" She was perplexed hearing Itzel cry.
"I was wrong to have done what I did. Trent did nothing to me but I pushed him. I should never have listened and believed what Maya told me."
Lena's eyes crinkled and she nibbled on her bottom
"Maya, what did she tell you?"
"What!" Lena's gasped after Itzel narrated everything Maya had been telling her in the past few days.
"I'm sorry Aunt Lena. I'll say sorry to Trent too because of me he got injured, " Itzel whispered.
"Come on it's fine. Trent has forgiven you, he has been worried about you too." Lena purred patting Itzel's back. She smiled and then wiped Itzel's tears with her palm.
"Just make sure you apologise to your Daddy ok?" Lena asserted squeezing Itzel's palm soothingly as she took her hand in hers and Itzel nodded.
"Aunt Lena, where you going?" Itzel questioned when she saw Lena stand up afterwards I'll be right back.
Lena didn't think twice before she made up her mind to go confront Maya for saying those kinds of things to Itzel who was just a kid, she manipulated her and that wasn't right. She was willing to bear Maya's insults, or her slap but bringing Itzel into this was one thing she wasn't just going to sit and watch happen.
She went straight to Maya's room, but she didn't find her there when she asked one of the workers they told her that Maya was outside the house.
"Baby girl, I'm close to getting him in my clutch. I just need to play my cards well and my lucky card is his daughter, " Maya cackled as she spoke to her friend on the phone. She was unaware that Lena was right behind her listening to all she was saying until Lena cleared her throat.
She swirled to face Lena immediately, if she hadn't held onto her phone tightly it would have fallen to the ground from the way she flinched on hearing Lena's voice.
"I'll call you later, " she said when she brought the phone to her ear before she hung up.
The fear that crossed Maya's face was now replaced with an icy glare that was capable of making whoever came under it tremor but not Lena. Lena just peeked at her unfazed by her expression.
"What are doing here?" Maya's angry voice came, she sneered in disdain and her eyes didn't leave Lena even for a second.
"I'm here to talk to you." Lena vocalised in a fierce tone.
Maya clicked her tongue and then burst into mocking laughter, "Talk to me? Who do you think you are?"
Lena ignored Maya's obnoxious words.
"The question should be who exactly do you think you are? How dare you try to manipulate Itzel? You know, you are more stupid than I thought. What do you gain from forcing yourself on a man who wants nothing to do with you and as if that isn't enough his daughter is your lucky card, right?" Lena huffed quoting Maya's words from earlier.
Maya cast a shocked glance at Lena, her jaw went slack. She never had imagined that Lena would have the courage to stand and banter words with her to the extent of calling her stupid.
"Who gave you the guts to speak to me in this manner?" Maya roared raising her hand to strike Lena in the face but Lena caught her hand just before it reached her face.
Lena's expression darkened, Maya could feel the rage that blazed in Lena's eyes it was enough to make the breezy turn hot for her. She suddenly felt sweaty, her hand was still in Lena's grip and Lena didn't look like she was willing to let go anytime soon. As Maya tried to pluck her hand out of Maya's grasp she felt a sting on her face and her ears buzzed as Lena's palm collided with her cheeks.
"I think this will bring you back to your senses. I've had enough of your nonsense, Maya. This is a warning, don't bring Itzel into the pointless battle of yours. Henderson is not yours, the earlier you understand that, the best it would be for you!"
There was a volume of possessiveness as the last words left Lena's mouth.
"What's going on here?"
Lena let go of Maya's hand when she heard Henderson's voice behind her.
