Chapter 98—Upset?
"I see." Lena nodded and pulled away from Henderson.
"I have to go greet some guests." She ambled away before Henderson could say a word. By
"That's rude, Henderson. You made her upset." Brighton's brows puckered and he shot Henderson a glare.
A perplexed expression settled on Henderson's visage and he let out a chuckle."You are wrong. Lena is not upset."
Brighton gave a tight nod, he stared and Henderson with raised brows, "Really? Why do you think she left like that? Congratulations you just made yourself the most annoying husband upsetting your wife just a few minutes after saying your vows. Babe, This is our wedding and not a sermon; that's a very rude thing to say to the woman you just got married to."
"I think Brian has rubbed off on you, you speak just like him these days. Is Brian your coach...."
"what did I do? I heard my name." A frown marred Brian's face as stood beside them.
"It's a good thing you are here, Brian. Guess what your best friend just did?" Brighton mumbled turning to Brian.
"What did he do? What did you do Henderson?" Brian questioned his tone filled with curiosity as his gaze darted from Brighton to Henderson.
When Henderson didn't say a word, Brian averted his gaze from him and shifted his eyes to Brighton.
"Let's assume it's yours and Irene's wedding and after saying your vows and everything you are just talking to her and then she says babe, this is our wedding and not a sermon?" Brighton questioned.
"That's a rude thing to say, did he say that to Lena? Hold on a second but why are you assuming I and Irene getting married?"
Brighton eyes flickered with mischief and he laughed.
"You didn't have a problem with that when I said it, so why are you acting like you just heard me say it now? Or is it because Henderson is here?" Brighton shrugged and earned a fevered glance from Brian.
"What are you both hiding from me?" Henderson inquired his brows slightly furrowed as he cast them a suspicious glance.
"Henderson said those words you just said to Lena, didn't he?" Brian asked ignoring Henderson's question.
"I just asked a question yet you both won't give me an answer. What are you two hiding?" Henderson questioned once again but this time rather than a blatant ignore, Brighton and Brian exchanged glances and burst out laughing.
Henderson was puzzled by their reaction, his eyes narrowed and he smacked Brighton on the shoulder because he was standing closer to him.
"Ouch, what was that for?" Brighton scowled shooting Henderson an angry look.
Brian took steps closer to Henderson and smacked him on the shoulder before turning to Brighton.
"I avenged you, I guess it's a truce now. Right?" Brian cracked a smile.
Henderson huffed in annoyance and then rolled his eyes.
"I should never have invited you both to my wedding."
Once again Brian and Brighton burst into a wave of laughter after exchanging glances. After laughing to their hearts' content, their gazes wandered back to Henderson who was looking at them like they had lost it.
"Instead of worrying about what we are keeping away from you, why don't you find a way to pacify your wife?" Brian muttered.
"Yes," Brighton concurred with a supportive nod.
"Lena is not upset, I didn't mean that statement...."
"It doesn't matter, what matters is that she is upset," Brian interjected cutting Henderson off.
"My point exactly," Brighton added.
Henderson didn't say another word to them, he was pondering on Brighton's and Brian's words. He wondered if his words really made Lena upset.
"You know what. I'm not going to let you two mess my head up, I'm going to go find out things for myself." Henderson stated casting a frigid glance at them before ambling away in search of Lena. He looked around the hall trying to spot Lena. He let out a sigh when he eyss finally caught her at the other side talking to a woman he recognised to be Mrs Lisa her mom's neighbour. He sauntered to them.
He and Mrs Lisa exchanged pleasantries after which she walked away with Lena's mom when she came to meet her.
"Babe, are you upset with me?" Henderson mumbled holding Lena's hand when she was just about to walk away.
Lena wore a smile on her face as she turned to face him.
"Hubby, is there any reason why I should be upset? This is our wedding and not a fight." Her voice was heavy with sarcasm and she still had the forced smile on her face.
"Brighton and Brian were right, you are upset with me. I was so foolish to not realise it. I'm sorry babe, I didn't mean to be rude or upset you. That's no excuse, I'm sorry." Henderson apologise taking Lena's hand in his.
"Should I go on my knees?" Henderson made to kneel but Lena quickly wrapped her arms around him stopping him from doing it.
"You are embarrassing me. There's no need to kneel, you are going to make everyone think that we are having a huge fight just minutes after tying the knot." Lena sighed.
"Or make them think I'm proposing again." Henderson joked making Lena chuckle.
"Honestly, I wasn't upset. I just wasn't happy that you don't want to give Maya a chance to prove how sorry she is babe. Just give her a chance." Lena uttered truthfully.
"If that's what is going to make you happy, then I forgive her," Henderson muttered after drawing in a long breath.
Lena wrapped her arms around him, she kissed him on the lips after she pulled away from the tight embrace.
"I love you, honey."
Henderson batted his lashes and smiled," You are this happy because I forgave Maya. One would think that you both were once friends."
Lena chortled, "I wouldn't say we are friends but I care about her."
"Don't tell me you forgave him so easily Lena?" Brian murmured with a frown on his face as he and Brighton came to meet Henderson and Lena.
"Shut the fuck up, Brian! Why did you follow me? You two should stay away until you decide to stop annoying me," Henderson roared casting Brian a cold glance.
Brighton was about to say something but he kicked against it when Henderson's eyes darted to him and he raised his hands up, a warning for him to suck his words in.
"What's this about?" Lena asked bringing an end to the exchange of angry glances between the three.
"He didn't tell you? He didn't even realise how rude his words to you were." Brighton asked and earned a glare from Henderson but he was unbothered by it.
"Yeah, Until we both told him," Brian stated.
"Oh I see," Lena chuckled looking at Henderson who had a pissed expression on his face.
"I hate you both," Henderson grumbled, his icy gaze settling on Brighton and Brian.
Brian and Brighton erupted in hysterical laughter that drew the attention of those around them but they didn't care, they only stopped after laughing to their heart's content.
"We know that's a lie, you love us." They both said in unison.
"He sure does," Lena nodded.
"They wish," Henderson scoffed before intertwining his hands with Lena's and together they ambled away.
After the wedding reception, Henderson and Lena said their goodbyes to their kids, friends, and families before going into the car waiting to take them to one of Henderson's penthouses where they were going to be spending the night.
"Babe, did you know my mom was going to come today?" Lena asked turning to Henderson amidst the drive.
"Yes, I was going to tell you but your mom wanted it to be a surprise, she didn't know how you were going to react to her presence. I'm sorry if..."
"It's fine. Thank you for everything, it was a pleasant surprise. I just hope that now everything is going to be okay." Lena chipped in calmly.
Bubbles of joy soared in her chest and her lips curved up happily," I love you."
Henderson's eyes lit up a huge grin marred his face. "I love you, my beloved wife. And it's going to be fine, Lee." He stated reassuringly and planted a kiss on her forehead.
Getting to the penthouse, the chauffeur helped them with their things before leaving. Holding hands, they went in together.
Next morning....
Lena's eyes slowly opened, she blocked her eyes from the ray of sunlight which was penetrating through the window as she sat up on the bed. She puffed a breath as she facepalmed when she remembered that right after taking her bath she fell asleep when it was supposed to be her wedding night.
The door creaked open and Henderson walked into the room but he had a gloomy countenance, Lena wondered if he was disappointed or unhappy about last night.
"Good morning baby," Henderson kissed Lena on the cheek as he sat beside her. But she noticed he still had a gloomy expression on his face.
She took a deep breath and slowly exhaled, she held Henderson's hands.
"Babe, I'm sorry about last night. I didn't know when I fell asleep."
"Sorry about what?" Henderson arched his brows at her.
"Oh, you think I'm upset because of that? No, I'm not. I just..."
"You just what? Is everything okay?" Lena's tone was heavy with concerns her eyes exuding inquisitiveness.
Henderson sighed and placed both hands on Lena's shoulder, he swallowed before he began to speak.
"I just got a call from Irene, your mom is in the hospital. She was rushed there an hour ago." Henderson let out.
