Seven
Alex watched as she walked to her front door and he let out a sigh. She turned to look at his car and he smiled. She had that same curious look on her face as she entered her house… she was curious about who he was, but she didn't bother to ask even once…
He was glad she was fine. He had been shocked when she passed out in front of him. He had also found out her name. Juliet, her name was Juliet…
He started his car engine and drove off when his phone buzzed. 'Where have you been sir!" Patrick sounded frantic at the end of the line…
'I'm not a child Patrick. Can't I spend some time alone"
'You can sir. But I was worried when I couldn't reach you, I was afraid of you…" Patrick trailed off and the smile on Alex's face was soon replaced with a frown…
'That didn't happen, you don't have to worry… how did the meeting go?"
'It ended well sir, they accepted the deal"
'That's good to know. I'm going home. You can leave early today" Alex ended the call after. His demeanour had taken a complete change as he drove his car towards his estate. He was returning to his life. His reality. He knew why he had worried and preferred staying with her…She made him forget about his reality even if it was for a while… he was oddly at peace when they had lunch together… but now his peace is gone…
The security at the estate greeted him as he drove his car in and he nodded at them in acknowledgement. He was back home… but this Place didn't feel a bit like home. He felt suffocated The more he drove towards the house. It was a feeling he just couldn't get used to…
He walked to his huge mahogany Front door and pushed it open without knocking. Felix, his butler and two maids were waiting at the door as he walked in…
'Good evening sir" Felix greeted, looking as patrician and stoic as ever. He wondered if he had ever seen Felix smile, maybe once…
'Good evening Felix. You don't have to take my coat and I won't be coming down for dinner" Alex said as he walked towards the stairs with the butler following behind him…
'You have a visitor sir" Alex stopped in his tracks and turned to look at the butler. 'Who is it?" Alex said, a bit of annoyance laced in his tone. Couldn't a single day pass without him being at peace? Was it so hard to ask…
'Your mother sir" Felix answered and Alex's mood became worse than it already was. He ran his hand through his hair and walked past his butler and towards his drawing room where his so-called mother was waiting.
She was taking a sip out of her tea when Alex walked in. His eyes are devoid of any shred of emotion. 'What do you want"
A smile appeared on his mother's face when he walked in and Alex's mood couldn't become sour… 'I don't want anything dear. I just missed my son. Is it wrong for me to come to my son's house?" Michelle said as she dropped her teacup in its saucer.
'Please leave then, since you have seen me" Alex said coldly and turned to leave. His head was starting to hurt.
'Why are you like this? I didn't do anything wrong to you for this behaviour! I'm still your mother and you can never change that!" Michelle yelled out angrily and this made Alex chuckle. He turned slowly to look at Michelle who took a step back when she saw the icy look in his eyes…
'You are not my mother. I Don't consider you as my mother" Michelle felt a lump form in her throat and her face became bright red…
'How can you say that to me, Alex? I gave birth to you. You are just like your father. Ungrateful And cold hearted…" She continued and Alex couldn't stand her anymore. He left the room and his butler followed after him looking unaffected by what had just transpired…
Alex stopped by the stairs and turned to look at Felix. 'I won't ask you why you let Her in, but make sure she leaves. Have Ray drive her home" Alex said and went up the stairs and straight to his room.
He sat on his bed and closed his eyes as memories of his childhood flooded his mind. He didn't have the best childhood and it still haunted his everyday life. His mother took it upon herself to ruin his day with every chance she got and he still wasn't used To it even though it happened most of the time…
'You are just as ungrateful and cold-hearted as your father…" it rang in his head, he had heard that probably close to a million times since he was a little child…
His father had every reason to be that way, the more he became older and lived the life his father had lived the more he understood…
Alex stood under his shower staring at nothing. He didn't want to go to work tomorrow but had to. He had to keep the company running and uphold the legacy his father had spent years building. And so on… that had been his life motto… or everyone's life motto for him. He turned off the showers and walked to his window where he saw his mother entering a car and he watched till he could no longer see the car anymore. She was finally gone, he could finally breathe again without feeling suffocated.
He wondered how his mother would react if she found out he had panic attacks and it got worse each time… she would probably freak out and blame him or perhaps blame his father for being Incompetent and cold-hearted…
'You should have stayed to see what your son ended up becoming Dad… maybe you wouldn't have been so cold-hearted" Alex muttered, his eyes empty as he still stood by the window staring at the night sky…
Was she asleep yet? Did she have the food he had bought… Was she sad again?... he found himself thinking about her again, Juliet…
And strangely he wished they were having dinner together with her curious eyes on him…. He was oddly at peace then…
